I have 2 sets of those wheels from Punks Custom 3D. They made a huge difference in the drive. The truck is so responsive and nimble feeling. Light weight is the way to go!

You are absolutely right about tires and rims . Interesting enough with all the technical innovations of real cars over the last 100 years, tires haven’t changed much and rubber is still king. Those rims look amazing

So I bought these to check them out. I could not get the proline bead to stay under the lock rings. Also, they wont clear the portals on my Capra unfortunately. I did install STH flat skid and finally ran my predator km3 tires. Damn those things grip so much better than my duratrax showdowns, and the skid really helps to get the weight over the obstacle.

Sweet. I remember when light weight started gaining traction in 2.2 pro. I built a moa bergish based rig that was 3.5lbs. Lots of counting grams and shaving them where I could. If your wheels are using ss screws, swap over to aluminum everywhere you can. Not so much on the slw hubs, you want those screws strong. But the beadlick rings you can swap to aluminum and cut weight there. Also you can hand shave the side lugs on the tires as well. The side lugs just become a set back on lighter rigs imo.

It might be an interesting weight comparison to look at the Gmade NR plastic beadlocks. They are under $13/pr. Sure they aren’t as durable, but for $12.90/pr might work well

I've had the opposite experience. I put trx6 wheels on my capra and it couldn't side hill and would flop over. Put SSD steel wheels on and it got better, then put on their heavier brass inner ring and it made my capra incredibly stable. Probably more difficult to get over an obstacle since it's about 1lbs of brass, but it's far more capable not flopping over all the time. edit) stock trx6 wheels were 530grams (4) and the ssd wheels I am running are 1090grams (4).

The Capra has a heavy chassis and needs some brass to get a good balance. I have brass on my Capra. On this, the whole chassis and battery and all should be at or under 1.5lbs at most. Maybe closer to 1lb I hope, so the balance will be very different.

Depends on what you’re building. I want as little weight as possible everywhere, that way when I add weight for balance, it doesn’t take so much to be effective.

or you add weight at the bottom or you reduce mid-top. lighter and lowest is better than heavier and low-mid. check out superclass builds, they use carbon hubs on super large wheels but they add the weight at the very low end of it only.
