Superman 2 (Superman II) Arctic Breakup & Balcony (Margot Kidder voice restored)

Audio taken from the International cut of Superman II. Contains dialogue not present in either the Donner or Theatrical cut of the movie. Footage was taken from VHS sources and combined with the bluray to create the missing shots.

Kidder and Reeve had chemistry onscreen. Those two characters, the way they look at each other, talk, embrace...are in love.

This is really amazing. This was always truly my favorite "lost scene" from the Superman movies. Unfortunately it's never been presented or restored properly before. But right here is what I always wanted to see. This looks seamless and cinema-worthy. Kidder's emotion is incredible here. I did notice though the "up, up and away" line was missing. I would've included that as it's one of many wonderful homages to the classic Superman slogans Donner sprinkled throughout the films.

Very close to perfect!.. I think there's a moment missing after they hold eachother, but I love the way you combined the Superman II IC audio with the bluray footage for the highest quality possible.

Great editing. Looks seamless. I've always had a love/hate relationship with this version of the balcony scene. Mainly because of the way the music was edited between when Superman flies off and the aerial of the balcony where it switches back to the theatrical score. Always seemed like it was mismatched and made it obvious that a part was added in.

I thought dinner never filmed part 2's ending bc this def seems like an end. Oh they filmed him turning back time & used that so she would forget. I gotta re watch the donner cut on my dvd.

Donner would have had to come up with a new ending due to them moving the time reversal to part 1. Who knows what he would have come up with.

@@faneditedbybooshman I think this is a good ending between Superman and Lois. I like the ending with the American flag on the White House, so that should be next with him heading to the upper atmosphere to say goodbye to the audience. I don't like the magic memory-altering kiss even though he did something like that in the comics in the 1960s. Just seems another made-up power that Lester gave Superman.

Why couldnt superman have a relationship with lois lane ? Maybe afraid she could be used as a target to hurt superman ? Why couldnt he have dated her as Clark as he did with lana ? Margot kidder looked so adorable in this movie. In the second one I noticed she did not look as good. It was only a few years later. I think in the donner cuts her hair makeup & wardrobe were on point ! Reeve was so movie star handsome & valerie perine was a bombshell.

I think the logic is that he needs to be completely devoted to the Superman role and can't have his priorities divided. Pretty harsh to send your son to another world and expect him to be a super powered celibate saviour.

@@faneditedbybooshman yes very excellent point. Unfortunately Margot Kidder had a lot of health issues throughout her life that included both psychological and drug addictions. She unfortunately struggled a lot after the making of the first superman film. You can clearly see the difference in her physical appearance between superman and the Lester cut of Superman 2. In the Lester cut she is very gaunt looking and withdrawn. She no longer has the youthful glow and fullness to her face that she had when she filmed the Donner footage. Very sad as she was absolutely unbelievable as Lois Lane. And the chemistry between her and Reeve along with Donner’s direction and vision made this for my money the greatest film ever made.

​@@DiverBand another reason for this is that Geffory Unsworth ( photography) passed away shortly before Superman the movie came out. He was just amazing with the way he lit scenes. Margot was treated pretty harshly by Lester, and the Salkinds , because of her devotion to Donner. You are so correct with her apperance in the Lester cut. She wss also going through a divorce at the time and they treated her badly. While not to apparent in Superman 2 Lester did a horrible job in part 3 with both Lois and Superman. Part 3 came out only 2 yrs after Superman 2 but both Reeve and Kidder look like the aged 10 yrs. Lester was the beginning of the end of the franchise

The shot from 0:24-0:36 is a combo shot made from other shots, to give extra time for the extra dialogue. If you check your ABC cut, you will see that Lois's face is in shot during these lines, but her movement would make it impossible to rotoscope as her head moves out of frame. 0:36-0:47 is the ABC cut footage from VHS combined with bluray footage to make up the extra image needed to take it from 4:3 to 16x9. Similarly 2:32-2:38 is VHS footage on the right and bluray on the left, to complete the frame. Hopefully the widescreen version of the ABC cut comes out on bluray so I can replace these effects with the real footage, which as of now has never been released in widescreen.

@@BooshmanLee Hey, Hope you're well these days! On another site, you supposedly stated on another site called forum.fanres.com "I've completed a composite version of the RIC in 720p. I have built 5.1 audio for the new scenes that were only ever in stereo or more likely mono on the broadcast. The original release of the RIC has a low bitrate ac3 file, so 5.1 DTSHD-MA is a marked step up." Is this true and if so have you finished a Superman II RIC IN 720p? If so, please let us know how we can download it!

Yeah I finished that a while back, but there are some tweaks needed, particularly for the 5.1. I moved onto other stuff and just released it stereo on Myspleen due to low interest. I could do some more work and get it online. Would you be more interested in a pan and scan version, as it is now, or a widescreen/ fullscreen hybrid, changing aspect ratio for the TV cut footage? @@theguardianoftruth3533

Wow, Lester really cut down Margots dialogue and well conveyed emotion, what a b'stard but we know that already after making the clearly out of shape aging Roy Kinnear gallop fast on a horse against advice then Roy inevitably fell off badly injured and died in a Spanish hospital. It was almost as if the director intended it bearing in mind Roy could play a convincing greedy selfish pilfering socialist which types like Lester would've hated and the media left appeared to be forcing traditional entertainers who served in the army out the entertainment industry, everyone was puzzled by Frankie Howerd and Benny Hill dying so closely together days apart as if leftists were on a mission.

@@faneditedbybooshman Yeah he was not treated well at all in his final years, his last British TV series Hardwicke House (1986) was also taken off air after only 2 episodes by the incredulous PC mob enraged that it tore into bad teachers whilst the UK was in middle of a 2 year national teachers strike which stressed out and disrupted the lives of millions of families. Come to think of it Lester has previous form for curious indirect sabotage of UK TV culture as he also lured Bob Todd from the Benny Hill show (for some reason the global left hated Benny H as much in the 1980s as they do Trump today) to play a pointless part in the booze soaked Superman 3 (knowing Bob had a drink problem) which enraged Benny so much he nearly fired Bob but was persuaded out of it which was good as sneaky underhand Lester would've got his ultimate way to compromise the BHS using S3 as his hapless front. Beneath the posey pretention Lester must have generated a seriously bad rep even amongst the moderate leftists in the industry after what he did to poor Roy anyway as i don't think Lester made commercial films after that.
