George Reaves was my superman from the 50s. I grew up in the 70s and was obsessed with the tv show until the Christopher Reaves version. It was so good.

We never got to see the TV show but will have to see where we can watch it. Hopefully this entry will add to our list of fun Superman movies.
@danielberg7644Ай бұрын
@foreverfangirlsreviews it was real corny but remember I was between the ages of four and eight when I watched it. I was 9 years old when the Christopher Reeves superman was released.

My wife and I were very young when the 1978 movie was released. I couldn't even tell you where or when I saw it first. She swears she saw it on betamax. As for the show being corny, I remember Batman reruns feeling that way. That show was still a lot of fun to watch then and now. - K
@danielberg7644Ай бұрын
@foreverfangirlsreviews I saw it in the theater on opening day after waiting in a very long line. My parents knew how much I loved Superman. My mom was good at sewing and made me an exact copy of the George Reeves suit when I was about 5 years old. I loved it. I wore it under my poliyester Sunday School suit. I ran around the neighborhood pretending to save people. I ran into the Bushes wearing a three piece suit and come out as superman. This was a year or two before Underoos were even invented.

Wow, that's awesome!

Wow…I totally disagree. I think James Gunn nailed it with this teaser trailer, which exudes hope. There is a reason this is by far the most viewed movie trailer in DC/WB history. There is almost no dialog besides the Krypto scene and the child and protestors. IMO this is a perfect teaser, which is an introduction to James Gunn’s DC universe that begins with Superman. We’ll get more about the story in the next trailer. I hope you like that one more…

I hope so, too! I'm very excited that fans are happy with it and that we're in the minority. It gives me hope for a brighter DC future. - K

I was born in 1958, I've watched George Reeves episodes thousand's of times (no exaggeration). His portrayal holds a special place in my heart. But it's because of him that I became a "Superman" fan, which gave me precious performances to love thereafter such as Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Roth, Henry Cavill, Tyler Hoechlin, and Kirk Alyn (before him). There's always one common denominator: the author who writes the stories for the radio, comic books, animation and live action performances upon which every incarnation of Superman rests. It's that simple. I'm looking forward to and hoping the best for James Gunn's story. I know from past experience that there will be a few jarring differences for me to absorb and finally integrate into my fandom for Superman.... I encourage all Superman fans to do the same. And, by all means, check out George Reeves too. You'll see some of the early building blocks that produced the Super-men we all know and love today.

Another commentor gave us a link to the George Reeves episodes. We'll be checking them out. We are hopeful for the Gunn version of Superman, just not a fan of this trailer. Either way, it's Superman... we're going to see it in theaters no matter what.
@rafalmeidasАй бұрын
I got the opposite, I wasn't expecting much, I was let down to have ANOTHER Superman... but it exceeded my expectations by much.
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
That's awesome! Was there anything specifically that grabbed you the most? Obviously, for us it's Krypto...
@TheToyOdysseyАй бұрын
Its not encroaching on Reeves’s legacy. Technically it was called Superman the Movie. There has never been a Superman movie where the title was simply, Superman. I know, semantics. But that's the facts .
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
We edited our conversation about the title, but you're right - that's the fact. It is interesting that most films have alternate titles, like Superman Returns, Man of Steele etc... if the film does well and has a good story - the title won't matter. That's all we want. We fans need a good Superman film.
@estephens13Ай бұрын
Minor thing, but the original Christopher Reeve movie is titled "Superman: The Movie".
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
Did we edit that bit out? It’s something we were aware of but noticed it’s not referred to that way. Articles, fans etc just say Superman. Apologies as that part might have ended up on the cutting room floor for time. How do you feel about the new title?
@estephens13Ай бұрын
@foreverfangirlsreviews Yup, guess it got cut lol. I looked an even IMDb shows it as Superman (1978). I think I’m ok with just Superman, it’s becoming more common to do this and often we say the year anyway ( like I always say Batman ‘89).
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
That is very true. Interested to see the next trailer and final product. Still hopeful for a great entry, especially with Krypto. As Superman fans... just worried. Speaking of Batman... what did you think of the last entry?
@estephens13Ай бұрын
@@foreverfangirlsreviews I thought it was good, but a little tighter editing (20 minutes shorterish) and it would have been great. You?
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
It was okay, but after Bale's Batman - it's difficult to compare. We do agree on the editing though. There were a lot of lingering shots, slow zooms etc - maybe it those had been trimmed it would have flowed better overall. Otherwise, okay foundational start. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.

Superman: The Movie was the first film I remember my father taking me to see in theaters when I was 4 years old. I still remember the opening to this day. Christopher Reeve was my childhood MoS although I enjoyed Henry Cavill's iteration. That said, Hollywood will do what they always do and repurpose movie titles to pay homage and to cater to a nostalgic fans like myself so I don't mind JG using the title Superman for his film. It doesn't change what came before and if this new movie is mediocre, I will always have the original.
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
Very true. How do you feel about the suit? Sheila likes the Reeve version, but I'm partial to the Cavill version. I'm not fond of Gunn's version, but I get the new film - new design idea. Hoping the new Superman isn't a letdown. We fans deserve a good DC film. - K
@cwell510Ай бұрын
@@foreverfangirlsreviews I'm not a fan of the suit either, I don't like the collar and the texture of the suit looks baggy and not form fitting like it should in my opinion. I understand that JG is a fan of the All-Star Superman and Kingdom Come stories and wanted to incorporate versions of that outfit along with the New 52, but it to me it looks like a Party City costume. For me, a cross between the Richard Donner and Zack Snyder versions would have been much better...
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
That would be a good blend for an outfit. But we completely agree it needed to be form fitting. Maybe there's a possibility it looks better during the film... hopefully.
@cwell510Ай бұрын
@@foreverfangirlsreviews Keeping my fingers crossed for that. Perhaps we'll see an upgraded suit in future sequels.
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
Maybe Gunn uses the costume as a way to indicate growth of the character in future installments. More adult fit, different color depth etc. Could be interesting.

The worst thing about this reaction was the SF whiners logo. 😜GO Rams!🐏 To Sheila, I'm surprised y didn't react nostalgically with the revamped original score. I've seen many older men tear up listening to it. To Kimberly, Krypto was put in & inspired by Gunn's own adopted, feral dog Ozu and his growing pains training her. So supposedly Krypto will be just like her, except with super powers. I wish yll would have articulated more on what y wanted out of the teaser.
@foreverfangirlsreviewsАй бұрын
We trimmed the score discussion for time as I liked the new version (it reminded me of the Wonder Woman reimagining). Sheila's waiting to hear the full theme before commenting LOL. I was unaware of Gunn's inspiration for Krypto but am rather excited to see the pup on screen. As for what I wanted... overall it felt like too much and too little all at once. I think the best teaser would have been Superman on the ground in the beginning, whistling... the theme... Krypto... and cut. That would have made me want more. It felt like a mash of images with no connection - like dailies chopped up to show everyone involved without cohesion. Again, not bashing the final product. Keeping an open mind and am hoping the film does well. DC succeeding is great for all of us fans. - K
@Mistr_AndersonАй бұрын
@@foreverfangirlsreviews Yeah, initially it sounded like the Top Gun theme to me. lol Then I surprisingly got a bit emotional when realizing it was a revamped version of the OG score. Very true, the teaser had EVERYTHING. I guess it gave a bit of something for everyone. I like finally seeing a green lantern & Krypto myself. Not a fan of the underoos coming back but I love the S on the cape. Thanks for replying. Y got a sub! ;)

Aww thank you for subscribing. Totally agree on the costume, but Sheila loved it for the nostalgia aspect. Also, now I can't unhear the Top Gun theme at the beginning 🤣

Lol, everybody wants to be a movie critic. I'm going to see the movie for entertainment purposes . I've been going to the movie theatrs since 1958. Yes, there have been very good movies and, of course, very bad ones in my 72 years of life. To me, movies can provide a way to temporarily leave everyday life and experience different worlds.

Never said we weren't planning on seeing the film. We've seen our fair share of amazing films and let downs over the several decades we've been going to the movie theater. No harm or foul in sharing our thoughts. We appreciate the comment and your opinion.

I agree with you Sheila. There's only ONE Superman and it's Christopher Reeve. I do like the guitar cover of the original Superman movie. It's a nice lil piece of nostalgia . I agree with you Kim about loving the dog. Krypto is the best boy. *lol* I wasn't impressed with this trailer.

I think Reeve stands in a hall by himself, but Cavill really was a great Superman to me. I cannot WAIT to see Krypto... but agree. The trailer was just eh. - K
