I think the massive over speculation just comes down to there being a shit ton of people who've waited decades for THE Superman movie and have such high hopes. That combined with James Gunns recipe having more widespread appeal than Snyder's.

I think Superman not smiling was very deliberate. Superman’s not smiling because he starts out this movie as a low point. We’re going to see him become the smiling hopeful guy. Gunn has also said most of the trailer shots are early in the movie

When I was like 8 or 9 at the time, I saw Batman V. Superman in theaters and I thought to myself "Yeah! It's Batman Vs. Superman! Finally!" Then I saw the whole movie and a few hours later, I thought "It was like a Batman centered plot and Superman had no real thought here. All he did was be quiet, save some people, be worshiped, and just dip. He said no real amount of dialogue until the fight and his lines were "SAVE MARTHA!" and it broke tension and brought some emotion to Batman. I looked at it felt like "Dark Knight Returns" but a bit rushed and it added some unnecessary shit, you know "DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!" and some others. So it kinda annoyed me that the Lex Luthor I was presented was just some goofy goober. I thought more about it and many people thought "IT WAS THE BEST!" and some people disagreed with it. Their reasoning being "Superman's too dark, he acts like the second coming" which I agreed with because I looked at other pieces of Superman media and I was presented with a big blue boy scout that fights for truth, justice, and the American way. And his perspective of the world being "Goodness and kindness exist and I'm one of them." He knows he's the most powerful being on earth, but he chooses to fight for and save the people and not for his ego or anything like that. Superman is the kind of guy who prioritizes everything from the most dangerous of threats to saving a cat from a tall tree. Superman also fights for the preservation of truth, justice, and the American way. This movie on the other hand... it shows all of the essentials of Superman as a character and the tone of the early age comics mixed with a few contemporary stories. It's not just Superman stopping mad scientists or overly creative criminals. He tries (keyword "tries") to help in different political zones but not because he was asked to, but because (it's my theory on it) he needs to save the people. He does not care about poopy political agendas, only the lives in danger. He also fights some monsters on the daily and some of Lex Luthor's ego-maniacal centered plots. And that's what I see in James Gunn's Superman.

Where do you draw the line of “it could exists in the real world”? A super alien can exist but not a super dog? I understand what you’re trying to say. My concern with Krypto is that it hints at a movie that might be more on the silly/comedic side. I’m more of a a dark/serious type movie, like the Dark Knight trilogy. Maybe we’re saying the same thing, in different ways.

James Gunn is turning Superman into a children’s movie made for 5+. The entire character list and costumes and set design look like it’s a new Superman TV show. If you wanna comic accurate Superman you’re gonna be getting two hours of him saving cats out of trees, beating up bank robbers, and getting his ass kicked by other villians only for him to win the battle in the last 10 minutes of movie buy something super corny like the power of friendship or something. I’m sorry, but Zach Snyder brought realism and sci-fi to a character that was already originally goofy. Made it into an amazing character with man of steel, there was comic accuracy, but also made a movie that transcended realism and comic accuracy perfectly, but all James gun is going to do is look at comic accuracy, and that sucks. What I hate is that people rip apart Henry Cavill, Superman or Zack Snyder‘s vision when in reality they could’ve just changed Zach Snyder and kept Henry Cavill wolverine was in a lot of bad movies but they never changed wolverine. We got to grow with Hugh Jackman as the character and we won’t get that with Henry Cavill because he was the perfect Superman The only people that want to see a new Superman are the same one that are heartthrobs for Christopher Reeves.

All that Snyder glazing won’t make his vision any less divisive, pretentious, or misguided. Superman is a character that is meant for kids and has been since the beginning. He’s meant for adults too, but definitely not for us to hypocritically gatekeep the character to keep him out of reach of young children. Leave the more adult adaptations of Superman to the elseworld stories and occasional one-offs.

@ you make it seem like kids are interested into Marvel as much as adults are nowadays. Kids play Fortnite and PS five games. They’re on Roblox and Minecraft kids don’t even care about superheroes. It’s only young adult adults that grew up watching them and reading comics and older adults that grew up on the comics in the 70s 80s and 90s the reason why so many Snyder fans, including myself feel the need to keep the character is because we want injustice Superman. We don’t want a 1940s Superman like Christopher Reeves and anybody that brings up the point it’s for kids is ridiculous because kids don’t even care about superheroes anymore. Kids are playing FPS games with machine guns with blood and guts and violence times have changed. You can make a movie for kids and for adults but not toddlers. James Gunn is making this movie for like toddlers end up. When Iron Man came out, kids and adults loved the movie. Is that so hard to do? We don’t live in a time anymore, where saving cats out of trees and beating up bank rappers is cool to watch on screen. How is it so black and white in your vision.
