I love how Clark is genuinely humane and wholesome but he does have a temper like most people. "I could've torn him with my bare hands" is a human reaction to seeing such abuse, but staying peaceful despite not having to is what makes Clark Superman

@@amm019 Its better for the child not to. Call it Stockholm syndrome or a child's need to love a parent even if the parent does not deserve it but harming the abusing parent might further traumatize a child and killing the abusive parent deprives the child of some day getting to confront them for closure. That is part of why I am against draconian punishments for most forms of child abuse. Not harming the victims, even if only indirectly by them feeling emotional harm from harm caused to their parent is more important than punishment. Plus, once you put them in prison, child abusers are not liked in prison. The other inmates can take care of the "punishment".

@@Zurround”confront” Lol as if parents that are abusive won’t deflect and own up their actions. Believe me, they will STILL somehow make it YOUR fault. Dealt with an abusive father like this, this is my reality. They will NEVER own up to their mistakes. The only way to confront them is not be involved in their lives. Never visit them, never say happy birthday or greetings to them. Treat them as if they were never part of your life or they’re just a complete stranger. It’s gonna hurt them the most since in their minds, they are doing the right thing and really did well as a parent. You not reciprocating their twisted form of "love" is a slap to the face for them. Be prepared for backlash from your other relatives though (other family members, uncles, aunts that are his blood brothers and sisters, etc) because you will be made out the bad guy even if they don't know the whole story.

Love how when people try to put Superman on a pedestal “oh you are so great Superman no one else could have done this” he basically always shuts it down and shows that he would almost never be needed if people were better if people had more heart he wouldn’t have to interfere in half the events he does

That is why every universe without Superman ultimately fails. He is basically the symbol of hope for the entire universe. As long as he is alive then there is hope. Dr Manhattan found this out and it is the reason the Watchmen universe was in such turmoil. Superman shows that no matter how strong an enemy or desire to enact violence there is hope for the right thing to be done instead.

@@Zurround Marvel seems like constant tragedy over and over. There are wins for sure but not everyone that wins does the right thing or does it without just becoming as bad as the people they beat. Also Superman exists because of a bet between the endless, this makes him extremely special as a character. Every universe where Superman dies or loses hope ultimately fails. Kingdom Come nearly failed due to Superman giving up on humanity. Injustice Superman gave up hope and decided to control others to force morality. Case in point, almost every future timeline in Marvel is an apocalypse.

So many months later, but I’m sorry you must deal with this, I want to get into social services and to help with low-income accounting for families to give them some help when looking for resources. I always hear people say, "Resources are there if you need them", however, these people do not know how to access them, because I can tell you all the paperwork to get processed is a lot, and I can see why it may intimidate people, so I want to applaud you for helping the young that can't help themselves. I also wish he was real. When I was a kid this "Dad" kind of reminded me of my Dad, he never left a bruise, but he was violent toward my mom, my sister, and I. Her words are very similar to my mother's, "you just have to walk on eggshells around your dad when he gets mad", when I tried to voice how they always argued, I was told to, "shut up" or I was dragged to my room and thrown around. I remember fearing him so much, now he's a weak man, can't even walk for long, can’t make any jerking movements, and I thought I'd get over it, but I just dislike him more now because he still mouths off, and I just don’t want to stoop to his level. I am happy in my life with my wife, and my 3-year-old son, I talked to a therapist trying to accept what it was, but I can't. He denies hitting us and belittling us, and he also tells his new family and his mom he never did anything to us to make us feel this way. However, when he did hit one of us, he would cry, go write a letter addressed to us, and use that as an apology that would I am assuming, make us forgive him. I wish people didn't turn a blind eye, but then again when he would do his thing, he would lock all the doors before acting, to make sure no one knew, and always said, "Arguments stay within these walls". I dont mean to trama dump, just appreciate what you do for the kids that are found, and are taken out of truely evil homes. I just hope its not as common for kids to be misse like we where. Also to anyone else that has a just POS of a dad like this guy im sorry, you arent alone, hope its worth something to someone, and I hope you can heal just enough to live your own life. Hope your days all are going well.

We do actually have Someone like that, and His Name is YAHWEH EL ELOHIM. Sadly, a lot of people act as selfish and apathetic as the people in Danville and they rebel against Him, just like the villains that Superman faces, or they think that He is a fairy tale, or an evil tyrant, never mind that those people that say such things are ironically the very evil tyrants that they falsely claim that YAHWEH EL ELOHIM is, which is sad.

And then once you do, you cut that toxicity of out your life and let it rot and fester alone. And more importantly if they are abusing your kids, be a doer not a viewer. Muster the courage to grab something and knock your abuser out. HARD. If not, then leaving your child to be abused makes you a coward and no better than your abusive partner. And don't hesitate. He or she who hesitates is lost. If something isn't done, you might be killed or worse your child will grow up into an abuser as well and repeat the process to their family. Break the cycle before it's too late.

This is actually outdated advice as it is now known as a cover and abusive partners are aware of it. Batman will ALWAYS crank it up to 11 when it comes to kids. No matter what he WILL save that kid even if he has to die for it to happen BY GOD ITS GOING TO HAPPEN... Batman is THE BETTER HERO when it comes to kids who are sad because at heart he still IS kid Bruce Wayne. It's why he gets robins. He NEEDS to be the one they needed because they are all in the same boat as he was. They needed a father and he became that for them

It can happen as a scene in the movie but kind of hard to do a 2 hour long multimillion dollar movie plot about one dad and acts of child abuse. Worked fine for a single episode of the Incredible Hulk (maybe the saddest episode) but not enough for a movie plot unless its a very brief side story and not the main plot. Truly one of the best Superman stories and it doesn't require one big bad fight. Everything Superman tries to be is someone to show other's how they can be the protectors and heroes themselves. Obviously it doesn't literally mean that anyone could just go fight Doomsday or Darkseid. But that isn't what most heroes are truly needed for. Most are just needed to make their little part of the world just a bit better. Anyone in that town could have done that. The police and CPS clearly knew something was wrong but stood by. His teachers and neighbors also clearly knew something was wrong but stood by.

"It's not about RIGHTS. It's about WHAT'S right." Superman grabbed the man by his throat, and started squeezing, cutting off his air. The man frantically scrabbled at Supermans hand, but, of course, he might as well have been trying to fold titanium. "And right now... I don't think ANYONE would say I'm in the wrong." He held the iron grip for a second more, then released, his usually kind face twisted by the sheer rage he felt. The man would have collapsed, but Supermans grip held him up. He whimpered "What are you gonna do to me?" Superman leaned in, his eyes glowing dangerously as he responded "Nothing. I'm not going to do a THING to you, because there is no way I could convey the DISGUST I feel just LOOKING at you. How does it feel?!" Superman slammed the man into the wall, still being careful to not cause severe damage "How does it feel? How does it FEEL to be at the mercy of someone who is so far beyond your strength that you can't do anything? Look at that boy down there. THIS is what he felt every time his father, his MAKER, the one who.should be PROTECTING him and loving him felt every time you raised your hand to him!" The man hung limp in Suprrmans grasp as he whimpered "You're... going to... let me go?" Superman leaned in, his voice dangerously calm "I said *I* won't do a thing to you, but I have associates who wouldn't show this kind of restraint. One, in particular, makes it his MISSION to deal with scum like you. I can end you in an instant; a mere flicker of thought. HE wouldn't be nearly as merciful." Superman raised his arm and pointed at the door. Standing in the doorway was a figure with narrowed eyes, a menacing scowl on his lips, the rest of his face obscured by a cowl with pointed ears "If you don't want to meet my friend, then I suggest you become a better man. Be the father your son needs, and the husband your wife deserves! If not..." He leaned in again, his Crimson eyes locked on the terrified man "I'm always listening, and HE is always waiting."

Domestic abuse is not only generational, but cultural. Neighborhoods, towns, etc. People have normalized it for so long, it's not considered abuse at times. I see and hear a lot of people muse about how they or their parents would have reacted in some situations, and it's like venting anger against children was just normal in their lives.

I mean, it depends on what you consider abuse. Spanking a child for misbehaving is not abusive, neither is yelling at them when they do something really bad. Repeatedly beating them (punching/kicking, etc.) or emotionally harming them IS abuse though.

That’s a really good PSA. I bet there were a lot of kids who saw stuff like this and read in the comics that they could help their friends out in that sort of common situation. If you see it, smell it, act on that gut instinct. Authorities often will turn a blind eye to abuse.

A restraining order doesn't usually work if the male abuser has all the cards. In a study among 104 female residents in a facility for IPV victims, the majority (66.3%) reported that they had separated from and returned to their abusive partners at least once, and of them, 97.1% indicated that they left and returned multiple times (Griffing et al., 2005) My mother was one of them. Result. She lost her children for all time.

People complain about Superman being "OP" but they're missing the point. Superman is meant to be someone with the strength to rip a planet in half, but with the heart to know that would be horrendously wrong. Superman is an alien who is more "human" than the most pure person, but yet he still struggles internally with the mercy he shows to evil people. Just because you have the power over someone to act as a god, doesn't mean you should, the ultimate story of humility and responsibility.

@@breakfaith3031 It's all about influence. High control communities or parents can't suffer any other influences on their members because every deviation, no matter how trivial, is a challenge to their authority. Often at the root of this authority is an assumption that humans are inherently bad and untrustworthy, which necessitates their harsh forms of control. Modern themes of self determination and the inherent value of individuals flies in the face of that authority by making them irrelevant so they have to shout it down or admit we don't need them.

When you have moments like this, then you know why Superman is considered the greatest, not because he broke and beat up a guy who deserved it, but because he told someone he saw as brave to make sure he is always safe. Clark is arguably the most human character of all superheroes because most of the time he is able to find a way to protect people in the way they need, even though he has powers to destroy all evil, he recognises that evil would simply come again because it’s not something to cure, it’s something to overcome.

They like the asthetic of power, and project themselves into those characters. Someone that actually uses said powers for anything but self service, is being "weak". The actual reality of the pathetic nature of homelander, or bateman, or any psycho does not matter to them but rather the facade of strength.

It absolutely disgusts me that people view Homelander as a "realistic" Superman. If people can suspend their disbelief and accept that a man can fly, why can't they also accept that man could also be a good person? I mean the show even shows us that Homelander acts the way he does because he was raised without any love or care. Basically treaded like a lab rat.

I wish this tragic part of Superman and other heroes was explored more often. There's a lot of trauma and guilt that people in certain occupations experience from losing people they want to save. From firefighters to EMTs and even animal rescue specialists. It's really difficult to think you could have helped, but you were too slow, or you didn't do something right, and you internalize that it's your fault. They were counting on you and you weren't there for them. Superman can hear everyone in Metropolis if he let himself. He could hear everyone that needs help but he is just powerless to do anything because he would just make things worse in a lot of situations. That's what he meant when he said you can't help people if you don't know what they need. It's good that Superman rejected the officer's assertion that he was the only one that could have helped. As strong as he is, that burden is too much to bear for anyone.
