You know, now thinking bout it, Alicia in Smallville was basically Lori, but if she was a teleporter instead of a mermaid. People liked them together, but it was never meant to be... I love how Chloe was talking about a earthquake after that scene, then Lana walks in wearing Clark's flannel shirt, and she gets it, but wants to know how though. Anyway, Lori, for such a out there character, she's both important, but yet not. So when she pops up in things, like in Young Justice, she's real important, but if you research her, she has WAY more to her that'll never be translated.

How is Alicia basically Lori? Alicia didn't know Clark was an alien she thought he was a meteor freak like her what I didn't like about Alicia is that she wanted Clark to reveal his powers to everyone so she wouldn't be alone. Clark couldn't do that because that will trigger Lionel & Lex to come after him & his parents then she doused him with red kryptonite & he got pissed at her for it. Which led him to reveal that he still would've chosen her with or without being affected by the kryptonite then he sadly pulls away from her then he finds her dead in her barn which was sad & heartbreaking. Then they put him back with Lana & I'm ready to beat the hell out of the writers for it but I do agree with you I do like them together I like to think before Lois Alicia was one of the great loves of his life not Lana.

Ooooooh! The levels of cheese cake in 90's comics could only be rivaled by the intensity of those colors. Such intensely bright digitally colored cheese cake, man! T&A has never looked brighter 😄 Also; imagine those days, the guys at DC trying to keep their comics running, month after month, trying to come up with new things to keep things moving, when suddenly they get so low in ideas that they start just pitching whatever they can think of so they could survive another month, just faking it until actually good ideas came along. In one of those days, those desperate moments, someone said "I don't know, man! Something with mermaids maybe?", and so this whole mess spanning decades started. This is how multi-universes start, by the way; you can bet there are universes out there in which Lori is a vampire from the Moon, or a dark elf from an underground city, or an avian-siren instead. It's madness, not as much as nobody recognizing Clark and Superman had long hair at the same time, but madness still.

You’re absolutely right. Early Lori was in fact a better character than the later versions. It allowed her stories to show not all Superman stories were based on his being a god like being, but on character. The three wives of Superman is a great example of silver age comics. Likewise Lori’s first appearance which shows unequivocally that while Superman is human in the way he thinks, he’s also more than human. He’s like the genius kid in 8th grade who sits in class because he wants to. Even though he should be teaching it. Also Curt Swan and Wayne Boring. Wonderful art particularly Swan. He had the ability to draw realistic super people. People who still look human but idealized. Unlike later artists who are too exaggerated for my taste.

I always found Atlantis lore to be super interesting especially in dc comics, If you ever feel open to it I think that a good video idea would be to do a retrospective on the history of Dc's Atlantis. Like the Atlantis Chronicles and other things. Aswell as every major charters connected to it., like Aquaman, Lori, and Zatanna, Always liked Lori, just like the goofy idea that superman dated a mermaid, like a superhero version of splash. I think that i would like to see a cross between the classic Lori and the version form young justice. Just tone down Superman pining for her or her pining for him and just let the two be exes who remained really good friends and matured into A politician and a superhero. I was also really excited for the trench movie, probably more so than the actual dceu films. I thought this would be a great way to introduce b-list, c-list or even D-list characters who would otherwise never get there time to shine. The idea I had was a team of Marine Biologist, (made up of original characters, and references from the comics) all of which are normal people with no powers are investigating bizarre sea life off the coast of a small Spanish fishing town. The scientists find a young woman floating in the ocean and rescue her, as they try to revive her, something is watching them, as it begins to attack and hunt them. The woman wakes up during the attack she refuses to give her name and the only define characteristic is a small dolphin tattoo somewhere on her person (don't know where), As the trench attack more people she defends the scientist. she's strong but just barley stronger then a normal person the trench still pose a major threat to her. But she and the other fight back escaping back to the coastal town only to discover that the inhabitants of the town either worship the trench or are turning into the trench. I Kind of saw this story as cross between Deep blue see, Underwater, Jaws, The Thing, and Dagon.

I do like John Rameda's design for her. So that would stay. I would make her Mera's handmaid/advisor, have her people be a "lower" class of merfolk. She would read minds and tell her queen what they are thinking, really establish her as a Aquaman/Mera support. Also have Renaldo be Aquaman's chief scientist, thinking he would be a non-psychic merman, Aquaman needs tech Ronaldo has the device, analyze stuff etc. Have Lori and Ronaldo of course meet when Mera and Aquaman discuss things. Maybe have the servants get married before the nobles. Then slowly put her in JL comics meet Superman if they want him married to Lois that might be a good angle. But I like the idea of her and Superman having interest in each other and If they meet in another universe they would be great together but Ronaldo and Lois are Lori's and Clark's end game in my mind. Also Topo is Aquaman's Squid boy footman. I like the idea of having different levels of Atlanteans. The elite look like human and are amphibious Oceanmaster, & Mera, but Aquaman would be considered one. Amphibious with noticeable fish attributes Ronaldo will be one, and Tempest would be considered one (young justice design. Telepathic fish like people, (fins and Rameda design) Lori and others. Lastly beings like Topo and King Shark.

Then Lori and her relationship with Clark has that air of young adult love and how alluring it can be and the fact she left Clark the way she does...I feel all this back story explains why he is the most well rounded hero of them all and without them it's how you get a new52 or injustice universe or whatever we have now

I'd like to do a modern version of pre-Wonder Woman Diana's relationship with Ronno the Mer-Boy (originally seen in (Wonder Woman vol 1 107, 111-12, 114-116, 118-21, 121, 123, 125, 131, 132, 134, 144, 152), and then establish that "Ronno" was actually a diminutive form of his given name Ronal. Just to establish that Superman's mermaid sweetheart ended up marrying one of Wonder Woman's old boyfriends.

I think the reason Lori was phased out in more recent years is simply creators starting to feel the concept of merpeople doesn't seem to fit with Superman stories on the surface. I do think some of the stories show you can make it work, but superficially some people are going to think Superman being in love with a mermaid is just too weird and goofy; I told my mum that Superman had a mermaid girlfriend and she just said "So what the hell were they smoking back then?" haha. I think current writers and the general public see Superman's world dealing with aliens and sci-fi concepts, and merpeople feel too mythical, fantastical and kinda silly by comparison. Though I can see why Lori been pushed towards Aquaman's side of the universe, as I think writers feel more people could accept merpeople as a diverging race from Atlanteans than being supporting characters to Superman and his family. But honestly, ifI think it would be funny if they made another Superman movie and adapted Lori completely faithfully, just to prove Superman shouldn't be taken so seriously haha

Well now Lori is one of the characters I really like before crisis the newer ones made her less of the character she was. Great video 😊

Maybe Lex hates Superman because Clark never saw him as a love interest even though he also has the initial LL.

If memory serves there was a Pre-Crisis mini series about Superboy at college and Lorie was one of the supporting characters.

Funny how Silver age Lori is so quick to read minds and manipulate people and Saturn Girl of the Legion of Super Heroes makes a point to never do such a thing, except the time she had to mind wipe Superboy because he saw his date of death. Saturn Girl: I would never do such an unethical thing. Lori: (in Saturn Girl's head) Hold my beer.

Mermaid knees are vestigial traits from when they were more human-like; Atlanteans such as Aquaman still have them.

It's funny to see a character become less important and popular over time. It's like a de-evolution. lol

I didn't realize that was her in YJ! That's really cool. Though I think the idea of a merperson going on land (tail hidden via blanket/wheelchair) is really interesting and hope they show that if there's a next season.

My own head-canon: Aquaman wasn't the one that saved Clark Kent in Man of Steel. It was Lori".

I think Byrne brought Lori back into continuity as a tribute to Boring, but "killed" her just because she died in Crisis. What Jurgens and the others did with her (and Ronal) was awful. And I liked Superman 90s comics, but Lori Lemaris was a looooow point. I don't like Lori (mostly because of that 90s ugly run) but I think she could be a good character. She was criminally underutilized.

Sooo... One of the things that attracted me to my ex-wife is that she was, according to her, "Named after some comic book mermaid." And I, total geek that I am, printed out the story for her. She now goes by Lorelei... different mermaid.
