If they show the trailer at the super bowl then the attention will be split between many other big movie trailers. By doing it now you have all the attention to yourself

​@@jacobwest7There are benefits to both approaches as firsts, however, we can assume the decision was based on getting the hype started now with the news cycle all to themselves *then* when Superbowl comes around they'll get everyone they didn't, reinforce it for who they already got, and have that second swell of interest With this much time between the taste and the actual release the idea is to make it clear this isn't the DCEU so everyone can be pulled in at ground zero or the DCU.

Amped for this movie and for this trailer! Loved the tease today: the colors, the tone, the music and the ‘Look Up’ tagline. You already feel the goodness and the hope that Superman inspires in people. Between the new trailer as well as Creature Commandos episode 4 dropping the same day.. it’ll (hopefully) be an exciting day! Excited about this launch of the DCU.

It needs to be both. A good movie first, but a good movie that's profitable. 📈 TF1 is an example of a good movie but under performed and was a flop. That should not be the same fate for superman

No, it just needs to be good, of course they would like it to make as much money as possible, but right now the priority is not to make money, but to establish a new cinematic universe. If superman doesn't make a lot of money, but everyone adores it, then we can be sure that Supergirl will perform better, on the other hand if Superman makes a lot of money, but the reception of it is not that good, then the next movies might be doomed.

​@@Hikari12217Good points by you and the OP, but there is a point that is too low, which gets to Kenneth's point. The interesting thing is that "underperforming" or "flopping" won't outright stop them if the reviews are great though. Unlike T1 only having the Transformers name to ride on, the DCU has a few other pillars that can keep it building despite failing, but that all goes away if bad reception for Superman is followed by bad reception for the next film. A DCU Batman can still increase the appeal of the universe with a poor financial start, but it will affect what people get coming next and how much Bats and Supes appearances will be needed in the other films.

I kinda spent some time yesterday answering questions about the movie in Gunns TikTok comments. The 3 main concerns were: - The same old story told over and over again - Another origin story - Telling a Superman story instead of showcasing many of the other DC characters So Gunn has to show that it’s 1. Not an origin story 2. That it’s the start of something bigger, the DCU 3. Not just Superman, but other heroes 4. What makes Gunn‘s Superman great That’s what the people seemed to need, the color grading was actually not really a discussion, crazy? Right?

Color grading was always overblown to me, but even if it was a massive concern, people at least already got enough of a snippet to know this one was going to at least be richly colored, hence, less need for all the questioning about it by the time you were answering.

The mid-December trailer drop, I think, is because: 1. Superman the Movie came out in December, so appealing to some nostalgia for people around my age. 2. Lots of people go to see movies during the holidays, so let's get a trailer on the big screen to whet people's appetites. 3. They're going to advertise and hype this like crazy because they really need this movie to succeed, especially with nothing else going on with their movies right now. Not saying that I agree, but I believe there's reasons for this.

If it's great it may have great legs and pass $600M but going by the slow views of the trailer itself (and normies around me not even knowing a DC film was coming in 2025) $500M is a fairly realistic projection. I do think even if it is well reviewed it's going to raise a lot of questions if it does less than Black Adam though; and with how many takes on heroes there already are, I think we can't take it for granted people will be easily moved to see it as great.

Reactions are just like gaming content in the sense that you have to learn when to talk, and to be expressive and outgoing with your reactions. Some people definitely are acting, but any content where you interact with other content or art is inherently performative because we have to tell everyone our thoughts. No one wants to see someone not react to the trailer

I think you should stop labeling Shuri as just a lab rat because you don’t label Tony stark as a lab rat. Your analysis is condescending because Tony stark had no combat training and yet you don’t have a problem with him being iron man

That's been his stance about it for so long that I don't see that changing, but I will give the concern some credence (and not the harshness of the way he sums it up) because of this: *Tony is in his element having a suit do all of his fighting for him,* shielding him from damage and relying on fire power. Shuri is taking a position known for proof of martial combat prowess that she lacked. If Shuri was shown making a tech advancement that made her the Black Panther, I think that argument would have less grounds on account of a "lab rat making a lab rat solution to the problem of not being a seasoned warrior". At the end of the day, Shuri makes less sense as an out-of-universe choice to make BP, but in-universe the situation should have been handled in a way to result in her being BP without it being what Wakandans wanted (and only because the goal ultimately was to match the comic precedent of Shuri succeeding T'Challa as BP temporarily). Honestly, if they had more time and were less emotional about having to pivot from Boseman (RIP) but wanting to honor him the way they did, I'm sure there would have been different choices made, but something I thought they should have done to get Shuri as BP (and still get essentially the same movie) is: *Have Shuri honor her brother and the loss of the herb by installing a combat algorithm in a new BP habit on telemetry from T'Challa's previous suits,* then let the movie conclude with a new herb derived from Talocan sources and defer who would be the next person to take the herb officially until BP3, years removed from Boseman's passing. Sure the arguments would have followed that it would be yet another Ironman suit on a character, but it would have been Shuri doing what Shuri is known for and still giving us her as a BP.

I gotta be honest, this soon after the series finale of Superman and Lois, which John totally tapped out on before it got REAAAALLY good. I am about as unenthusiastic about this movie as one could be. For those that didn’t grow up with Christopher Reeves’ Superman, or experience the unbelievably fantastic Superman and Lois, maybe you’ll be excited. Not me, man.
