Very nice fix. Being able to reuse components from one part to another is a real plus. One time I replaced a diode on a lighting unit. Hazmat crews used this trailer mounted lighting unit for night work to light up an area. The light "bulbs" were special and took time when the engine/generator was started to fully illuminate, but were VERY bright. And they were on masts. One diode prevented the lights from working. My supervisor located the part, I got it installed.......we had lights. Hazmat was happy.

nice work... flux is your best friend! $1 for oppening the key $999 for spotting the problem, having donner boards, microscope, hot air station, steady hands, time and knowing what to do there are no cheap solutions only hard work, practice and learning curves

nice video, I am new to mercedes and have a 05 CLK 320 convertible... been a garaged car.. runs great however... key works fine.. all 3 keys i have can remote unlock and lock and start engine but if I try to state engine with start button on shifter, or grab door handle or push lock button it says key not recognized... does that track down a cause?

I've been driving on coilovers for 2 months and r230 and all I can say is wow, I don't recommend that for anybody in soft or old man's mode, but it's slightly harder a ride slightly and the car handles so much better and it's faster,

Spot on. We had 3 lost keys just today in Boca and Delray. Funny thing is people buy used cars with 1 key. They know how much locksmiths like myself charge and they still roll the dice. It would be so much cheaper to have us clone one instead of generating one from scratch. Lose your key on newer Mercedes you will be in a world of hurt. Dealer orders them from Germany from your VIN number.

You did a really good thing there. I also like to try and fix a mercedes key, but also think about the age of car and miles as mercedes puts a dead key date after so many inserts in ignition not even starts, and key can not be used again. So repairs like this may be a cheap alternative but like you said a second key is strongly suggested to have as a spare. Great video, thanks for putting it up.

Good job, good vid. If there is no battery then that coil is to inductively power the fob board that then sends data out the IR LED.

Nice work, I do lots of BE key replacements all the time. Had a customer come in with an original NEC key that the IR broke but he lost the pieces. Used hot air station and removed the NEC chip so I could read the password off of it. Quick and easy.

Thanks, for the video. Just sharing my experience. If your key is not defective but not opening the car after after battery change. Open the car with a spare key or mechanical key door then remove spare key out of the car 2 meter away. Start the engine with a key fob with just replaced batteries, stop the engine and now your key shall start working again.

Nice job Mario! Very true about more techs getting on board (literally) lol with SMD repair and troubleshooting. Especially with the lack of availability with certain parts ecu's, modules etc.. Hi, I am dealing with this exact problem. I replace blown fuse and still no go. I suspect its the key that's the issue. I checked infrared using camera and I am able to see the infrared working. It would be great if you showed your technique on how you get the board out of the key holder. You know what to watch for like springs, and little sliding release buttons, so those things don't fly out and are never to be found again. Thanks for your time great video.

Well My c series also had exact same issue but a private Mobile key,unlock smith Did magic $350 for two keys (aftermarket) part But i was very happy with the out come If your key is good then the steeing lock mechanism Could be at fault and that is Not a cheap one It usually involves steering assy dash removal and $$$$$$$$#. I’m going to look for a video where you disassemble the fob. I left my key out in the cold and snow of a chicago winter one night and it no longer detects the key remotely. I replaced the battery and the IR works, but the key is not detected. I don’t know if i can fix it but i wanted to open it up to see if there’s anything i can clean up first. This is not my only key, but they’re so expensive to replace.

The coil is not responsible for transmitting the key data. The coil’s job is to power up the key inside the EIS by induction. That is done via a coil that is wrapped around the EIS inside the tube. That being said, you can remove the battery from the key FOB and the key will still turn and start the engine. The battery in the key is only there for the remote locking/unlocking and the summer opening/closing feature via IR. The IR diode is there to communicate with the EIS when inserted. There is another IR diode inside the EIS.

our only key no longer works because it was left in the washing machine. I spent $800 for a replacement key at Mercedes but would like to possibly salvage the old key. I tried the rice thing overnight with no success. I'll try testing for continuity on the coil but if that doesn't isolate the problem, do you have any suggestions?

Factory reset ur IM608 pro and it will fix the crashing issue i own one also and noticed when it get full of data starts to do this and simple resetting the device fixes it just make sure u still have updates if u do this

Question, 2003 Mercedes E509, no dtc's, keyless go inoperative . Disconnected the battery the other day and the key fobs would not lock or unlock the doors. The keyless go worked for the first time when I touched the driver's door and unlocked the car. Tried the push start button on the shifter to start the car ,nothing. Inserted the key and it started the car. Now the keyless go will not work again, but the key fobs now work to lock and unlock the doors. What is going on? Please help. Again no codes.
