When I started playing minecraft I put everything I could find in a furnace to see if anything happens. That way I figured you can smelt netherrack into nether brick and then craft netherbricks with that. The name is kind of stupid imo, because the block has almost the same name than the brick. Its bether brick and nether bricks. Why not nether brick block? Would be so much better.

You can make nether bricks by smelting netherrack , which turns into nether brick (you need total 4 pieces of nether brick in order to make nether bricks)

You craft metherbrick by smelting netherrack and that will get you the individual bricks but to get the block you have to combine the netherbricks in a 2 by 2 format.
