Hi. You might be right. Proxmox is maybe overkill in your situation. But regarding file system, zfs is much better than btrfs. I think btrfs is usually not used in production environment, but maybe I am wrong. But at least you should definitely check out the hundreds of useful features of zfs. By the way, you made a good job. Well done!

Thank you for the new episode. I wonder if it is worth looking to get a slightly later version of the HBA card (probably not that expensive) and would mean that your disk configuration is not reliant upon the adapter. Anyway, I look forward to your next episode and hopefully an update on this build.

I decommissioned an old server with the 4 port 9650SE raid controller. I found a 9.5.5.2 version of the windows drivers, which allows it to operate with Windows 10 :D Unfortunately, no firmware included in that package. I also have a slightly newer LSI 1078 controller in another server, which does not go beyond 2TB. Unfortunately there is no support for that controller in newer ESXi versions, and also no new firmware and drivers.

Hey Victor van Dijk, thanks for watching and sharing. My friend is looking for an alternative controller which can be flashed in IT mode. I just don't like the JBOD passthrough of this current controller.

@@b00bytrap LSI controllers (or the Whitelabel versions from HP/IBM/Dell) are your best bet then you want IT mode.

Hey Captain Sideways , good question. Personal preference and BTRFS is a self-healing file system (against bit rot). For this setup, I might try XFS as well and see what the throughput of that is.

Proxmox with ZFS filesystem would be a better choice as OS with a cheap LSI SAS9220-8i card.

Hey Norbert Dupsi, thanks for watching. I don't know about that. This will only be a backup file server. It will not run any VMs and only has 8GB of DDR2 ECC.
