I love this episode, Dean having 'dad panic', thinking he might have one, then reflecting on it thinking he might have liked to have them... I've not seen season 3 in a long time so this is like a mini rewatch for me too. Problem with Dean being a dad - yes he'd be protective - I mean look at how protective he is over Sammy end of last season... he might be a bit too over protective!

I like your review style~ You talk more about how the show emotionally effects you than some others reactors, and I think that's great & the whole point of why I watch reactions. And if you have some life experience that effects how you see certain things, I appreciate hearing it, cause that let's me see the show from maybe a perspective I didn't consider. Your type of reactions feel more like how it feels when me and my best friend talk about the show. Plus, I really appreciate your empathy for even situations you may not have experience with^.^ I tend to not love note-taker reactors. I know why they take notes & do recaps with them. But, to me, if you have to take notes to remember what happened, the show must not be very memorable/good to you and/or your reacting to too many things at once... I just find it funny that a lot of the note-taker types are so wrapped in their notes they miss things or the full emotional impact of stuff doesn't hit because they're distracted.

I think Lisa lied. Hear me out. Because Dean asked in a negative way: “He’s not, is he?” she thought he wouldn’t be happy about it, so she lied and said no. And then she couldn’t take it back. I think Ben really is Dean’s son.

He should have been but the writers didn’t want to saddle two single guys down with kids wife etc. it’s all cuz of that. Even the writers say trying to plan for the show ruined some of their best writing because it was leading to an ending not a continuation!

Hard disagree here (aside from the Kripke having stated Ben isn't Dean's anyhow). A) I really don't think Lisa would lie, because that's taking the dad away from her own kid which I don't think she would do B) she would have to have zero awareness to not realize that despite the "negative" phrasing, the way Dean asked was almost hopeful and definitely sympathetic

I relate to you in so many ways (I'm also not religious and childfree by choice, and I don't have much family either. Literally just an uncle, his wife, and three half-siblings that I didn't even knew I had until I was nearly 30, so we're not close). I never wanted kids, but I did babysit for a decade (from age 12 to 22). I learned I could talk to kids just like I talk to adults (avoiding certain topics and swear words, of course). Kids don't need to be talked down to. I used to be pretty good with kids, but as I've gotten older, I've lost my patience because I don't have the energy to keep up with them. I originally went into teaching as a profession, but left after a year and honestly, I'm so glad I did. By the way, despite the blood test, the fandom *still* debates about whether or not Ben is actually Dean's kid. To this day! (I think that speaks to the acting talent of Nicholas Elia, who portrayed Ben. He got Dean's personality and mannerisms down really well.)

I will never not be convinced that Ben is Dean's son. That biker story came after she'd had time to come up with it. The way she was flustered when he first asked was very telling... he's totally Dean's son Even the way he handled the crisis. Cold head, selflessly helping the other kids first, etc. I love your aggressive protective mama bear in you when it comes to Sam and Ruby 😆

dean is great with kids, i think becasue he not only raised Sammy but is also one himself, lol. he relates to them and understands them. Also Jensen himself has always seemed so good with kids himself and that shines through with Dean. Because Jensen connects with the young actor it shows up so well on screen.

I'm still 100% convinced Ben is Deans kid and Lisa lied to him. And it makes sense, I guess I would lie to him too if I was in her position. You have "the best night of your live" with this random dude. Nine years later he appears out of no where and you know nothing about him. Then he asks if he his your kids father. What do you do? Especially if him asking this is worded as if he is hoping he's not the father. Yes, she says she had a dna test done. But if I remember correctly she also said that Bens dad is some random dude from a biker bar (?) earlier. So she tracked that random biker bar dude down to get a dna test done? Idk but for me this doesn't sound very convincing.

It feels like fans tried to crucify any female characters that so much as said hello to Sam and Dean, which is a shame. Hey everyone, just to clarify: I don’t think I’m clever because I’ve watched ahead. I just wanted to discuss a point with a few fans. I mean, last episode another fan asked what were the three episodes from season 3 that we were most excited to see her reaction to, by only stating the numbers of them. That can also create antecipation for those specific episodes. But his comment didn’t lead to this kind of reaction... You see, I’ve also read before that Jess has a moderator that reads most of the comments for her, so she doesn’t get spoilers because she knows something like this can happen when you start watching a show that is already over Still, I know that some people are more sensitive to spoilers than I am (I literally couldn’t care less, I actually like spoilers haha go figure), so that’s why I put that warning. Show me those who are criticizing your style. I'll give them a talking to. I love your style! I loved seeing this new side to Dean when I first watched it. Lisa seemed pretty cool. Different from his usual one night stands. Well, she wasn't just a one night stand and he actually remembered her name. That means something. He did have one other relationship that was more serious that we saw in season 1. I also loved seeing Dean interacting with a little mini-me in Ben. He is good with kids and that says so much about him, beyond what he usually shows the world. I think it's just something natural to Dean. I love it when we get to see more of the real, inner, Dean. Those un-guarded moments that I treasure. I do think he earns for something like what he could have with someone like Lisa, but he's never really let himself go down that road because of his life. I could be problematic if Ben were actually his kid, but I determined after watching this episode the first time that, to me, he was Dean's kid. I needed to know that there were little Dean's in the world, in case he never got to have a family of his own. I was right there with you regarding the demon. She didn't say why she wanted to help Sam. What's she getting out of it?

I live for your unscripted sometimes rambly reviews! Please don't change! In this episode, the way Katy's mother acted and reacted was dark and disturbing, but it felt true; a genuine mental and emotional meltdown. There might be a parallel to make with the Woman in white of the pilot episode... Temporary insanity and all. And your remark that maybe the writers were trying to showcase that Dean is just a giant 8-year-old kid instead of the potential father of Ben is food for thought.

@@kimberlywilmoth9184 when it comes to SPN canon, even when stated by producers and directors, I tend to take it with a grain of salt. After 15 seasons there has been many things that they've denied or unintended that ended up canon, so I don't take it very seriously. Supernatural has a fun sandbox to play in, especially when you get into the multiverse stuff in the later seasons. The latest Ben theory is that he's actually John's, which is so angsty that I love and hate it and the same time. In the case of Ben and Dean though, does paternity matter? He's that kid's dad regardless

Funny how you would just automatically assume what I find physically attractive. Maybe you're new here but I try my best to always see things from every characters perspective and that includes deep diving into their personalities. And yes trying to relate and see the best in people. Man or woman, physically attractive to me or not. Just want to let you know not all women or men find the same things or people physically attractive and I'd just suggest not grouping all women together universally. People are different.
