Gordon never cared about innocents getting hurt, he cared about his personal crusades. He killed things because he considered them monsters, not to protect people. Being a vampire didn't change who he was.

Yes I think Sam's tendency to really hesitate to kill was diminished because he hesitated to kill Jake and that cost him his life and by extension, Dean's .

I always felt that even though Gordon was horrified when he was turned, he was a little relieved it allowed him to be the monster he always was/wanted to be. It's like it took away the last bit of his already fading humanity. Yes, I think he would have stayed a vampire by justifying it for sure. Sam has definitely become a bit harder. Yeah, he was going to be a lawyer. I agree with your assessment of Sam completely. His speech to Dean in the motel was heartbreaking. Jared delivered it perfectly. The beginning with "Harmony" was VERY sad. Poor thing. But yeah, no sympathy for that other vampire dude. I definitely see Dean as a parental figure for Sam. Your assessment of Dean's probable anger in this episode was very enjoyable and I think very likely. The two scenes between the boys kill me every time I watch this episode. That last scene! 😭 The look on Dean's face when he says "That's my job, right? Showing my little brother the ropes?" There's so much love, and sadness, and resignation in that look. Jensen is just a treasure. Glad you liked the episode. 😊

I actually felt sorry for the vampire Deacon. He just wanted a family and to not be alone. Sure he could've just lived with any 'normal' human, but he would keep losing those he loved.

Monsters don't play fair. It's a sad fact that good Hunters are the ones to make moral sacrifices so others get to live normal lives. It's not a lifestyle where you plan your retirement, you can be almost guaranteed when you go out, it's going to be bloody.

I love how Dean is always like “No Sam I’m not gonna let you go by yourself” or “You can’t just go alone there” but when the roles are reversed and Sam is like “Dean I’m not gonna let you go by yourself” Dean’s response is always like “I don’t need your permission, you are younger than me” 🙄🙄

I was excited to see how you'd feel about Harmony being in this episode. :D Second Buffy actress to be playing a vampire in Supernatural. I feel like Gordon is a bit too unhinged to play a convincing FBI agent. I wish we got a few more episodes out of him too. I liked him.

I think Gordon fully intended to kill himself, but I also think he would have chickened out, telling himself he needed to kill something else first. His self-loathing and shame would become unbearable, but he is, at heart, weak.

Supernatural is amazing at bringing in actors from different TV shows and movies that everybody knows...on another note, I do think Gordon would have killed himself after he killed Sam. I think he feels too low about Vampires to actually live his life as one.

It’s always been my head canon that Dean protected Sam from having to make those really horrible choices and Heart was when we began to see Sam taking on those choices himself. The show runners have said that they would have really loved to keep Gordon recurring for a while, but he’d made a commitment to a different show and was no longer available to them. BTW: the cooler that Dean sat on during the final scene is called “The Green Cooler of Brotherly Love” and has its own Twitter. The car (one of each went home to Austin with J2j also has one called “The Real SPN Baby”.

I think that theres definitely a correlation between Sam's uptake in violence and the fact that he has demon blood. But I think a part of it also has to do with the fact that he chose not to kill the man who ended up killing him and leading to Dean making the deal in the first place. The more that Dean continues to brush off the weight of his deal and put himself in harms way and the closer that Deans timeline creeps towards its end, the more violent and willing to kill Sam becomes. Its almost like a penance; doing bad things he doesnt want to do to make up for the "weakness" that put into motion Deans death. Not to say thay he was actually weak, but Sam carries such an enormous amount of guilt that I wouldn't be surprised if he blamed himself entirely.

I liked Gordon in that "I love to hate him" kind of way. As in I disliked him, but liked seeing him because it was interesting how he shook up the show and all the bad crap that happened to him was pretty entertaining. Plus that twisted morality he had was kinda cool to see.

I do believe he would have allowed himself to be killed if Sam died first. A man as dedicated to killing monsters, all monsters not just the bad ones, would stick to his morals, as twisted as he is about them.

The way this show develops the 'guest' characters is pretty well done in my opinion and Gordon was one of the firsts. I thought it was well played. Even though I liked the character I cheered when his head rolled. :) I loved the fact you had to cover your eyes (like a gory scene) for the end scene,lol.

i think gordon would have found a reason to not kill himself. i think he would say oh hes a better hunter now with these skills so he should use them to keep killing things and if he fed on them along the way well it would be justified by the good he thinks he would do.

This an episode that I easily forget for some reason, but it is really good. 14:08 I guess now we know why the spirits wanted the brothers to not got find Gordon... Or it is just Sam accepting to do things that go "against that gentle nature of yours", as Ruby puts it, to save the people he loves when their is no right thing to do.

It’s interesting that you bring up how Sam wanted to be a lawyer and how different he is now, how much more jaded he is than that earlier Sam. I feel like being a lawyer isn’t so much about justice as it is to study the law and use it to get the best outcome for your client. I mean we see it every day, people who do a thing that should 100% should be held accountable end up getting off with basically a slap on the wrist because they were able to make a deal or because of a loophole in the law end up not getting as much of a punishment as they should. So it would be interesting to know if he did end up being a lawyer if he would end up being this jaded anyway...

I truly believe that Gordon would kill himself. I absolutely believes that Sam is an evil demonic abomination who is threat to humanity. By killing Sam, he can maybe find Salvation by destroying biggest evil in his mind which is Sam. From Gordon's POV, he sees Sam as the biggest monster of any that he faced. I cannot go any further without spoiling the upcoming season.( My favorite season of the show) Once again, I always love your post show thoughts. BTW

It's kinda too bad Sterling was underutilized as this stereotypical 'evil' tunnel vision character trope. I really hate characters written like that because it just feels so unrealistic to me. At least he still acted the shit out of the role.

Gordon was intentionally written that way though to show how dangerous someone with such a black and white view of the world can be. Most other characters on the show, both heroes and villains, have more shades of gray, but Gordon was the example of the danger of having such rigid beliefs. Sterling did a wonderful job with the role.

Sterling landed a leading role on Army Wives on Lifetime and Lifetime told the CW/Supernatural that they would only release Sterling for one more episode...so Gordon had to die.
