This was the writers' strike season, but it didn't suffer much in that department. There are a lot of seeds planted this season that will become relevant in later seasons. Season 4 I think is the best in the whole series, so totally looking forward to seeing your journey through to there!

Okay, before I say anything else: I’m the “I love Bella team” hahaha but I don’t know if she’s polarizing or not Now SPOILERS ABOUT ONE OF HER POST EPISODE COMMENTS, do not read past here if you haven’t finished season 3: I’m always amazed at how spot on she is about some things. Her analysis on why Bella killed her parents and why she is the way she is was just perfect, I was speechless

While the comments certainly suggests that more people than I ever would have imagined seems to feel that way, we certainly do not AL feel that way. I know I personally HATED her character and was just hoping every time she turned up would be her last ever appearance on the show. She was far too selfish and quick to betrayal, manipulations and backstabbing for me to do anything BUT hate her, and there was no redeeming qualities to soften me and make me feel like she might just deserve a second chance. No hint that she might actually care underneath it all, or that she might have any regret for her betrayals or backstabbing, no willingness to sacrifice for someone she loved... like, ANYTHING that might awaken some empathy and compassion, and soften my ill opinion of her. The actress is stunning and talented, and it could certainly have been possible for me to absolutely LOVE Bella under different circumstances, but sadly they didn't give me enough to get me to that point.

@JZPotter oh pipe down. I never wrote to anyone, demanded anything, or in any way tried to make them write her off because I didn't like the character, nor have I ever done with any character I didn't like on any show I watch. So take your whining and your complaining somewhere else, because I had nothing to do with it.

The writer's strike didn't really impact the first half of the season, they'd written those episodes before it became serious. So there's mainly stand alones, with a few hints and mentions of stopping the deal, like when Sam summoned the crossroads demon. The second half is where the boys were going to get serious about finding a loophole to get Dean out of the deal, and that's where the missing 6 episodes were supposed to be.
@laurenjohnson59413 жыл бұрын
I feel really similarly to you on Bela! I love how self-sufficient and independent she is, and her backstory and performance is very enjoyable. Absolutely terrible person, but it's the bits of vulnerability that are so telling. What you mentioned about abusive situations in the household hit home for me. I don't think enough people consider how damaging it is when someone who is universally understood to have unconditional love for you hurts you. Personally, when I was young I remember telling a friend of mine that my home life sucked and my parents were always yelling and criticizing me. We were, like, 11, and at the time I was so upset when my friend said that she thought my parents were nice, and that I was exaggerating. When you look at a family and it *seems* "normal," it makes abusive situations all the more horrible. (I'm an adult now and I'm very aware that my friend was just reacting largely out of innocence. She didn't understand what I was saying because the idea of a parental figure being hurtful made no sense to her. Tbh, I'm kinda jealous. And almost happy for her that she didn't understand. At the time, though, it absolutely sucked. She was the first person I tried to confide in.) This was a long comment lol I went on a minor tangent

Seriously? It's an old, common trope in movies and TV. It's funny. An old person hamlessly flirting with a much younger person. Again, it's just harmless fun. The old lady, like any good-natured - albeit feisty - old person in real life, knew she didn't have a chance. Probably because she wishes she was that young age again, and he reminded her of her younger days. I don't think there was any perversion meant. You people are so sensitive these days.

There is a pattern of Dean being thrown into hard objects (and of Sam being knocked on the head!) I am with Sesska concerning Bela's statement on the Winchesters' motive for hunting: it was about revenge and vengeance for 24 years (mostly because of John for 23 of those years), but I really think it all stopped when Azazel died in the last season. Dean has been in the business of saving people (especially his brother) for all his life; he stated it as early as the Wendig episode yet again in Salvation. So it might not be healthier than selling anything to the highest buyer in an unattached way (because if she does not invest enough in human connection, they pour way too much of themselves into their job), but their motive is not selfish as Bela implied. Not connected to anything Sesska said, but I do love how the show portrays how ghosts can destroy each other.

I loved your comments for this episode. I hated the way that the groping of the old woman on Sam was played for laughs, where if the genders were reversed it would not have been played that way. I was glad that you didn't see it that way. I really like Bela's character as well. It's nice to see a different perspective of a human that knows about the supernatural but isn't a hunter.

I still think that on a deep level Sam doesn't actually want to do any of this. So one of the reasons he hates Dean's sacrifice is because Sam also deep down resents his Dad and Dean pulling him in deeper and deeper into the supernatural through what amounts to emotional blackmail. AND he feels guilty feeling that way.

Ironically, Kripke considered this one of the worst written episodes of the series. So much so that in a future episode there will be a fourth wall breaking apology/aknowledgement. Can't say more without spoilers, but you'll bust a gut when it comes around. While I agree the writing isn't great, like many of the lower Supernatural episodes it's saved by the chemistry of the core cast, especially the bothers. Jensen and Padalecki really carry the load on this one, with Lauren Cohan just having fun chewing scenery.

This episode is my least favorite, and sets a precedence. They overdid the older woman in sleeze. Being yt, I'm not going into an essay on all the sexism at play. However(!!!), since I relate my life to Sam's life, getting hit on by sleezy older people was a theme for me, too. By the way, to the mods, if you see me, keep season 12 ep 11 in mind to give her a trigger warning. I've seen past videos about such a topic, and just rewatched that yesterday and thought of her.
