Lilith didn’t want to die. That’s why she was willing to make the deal with Sam in “The Monster at the End of This Book” because she found out she was the final seal, but by this point I’m sure she knew it was inevitable

Sam was more than a crack addict, he was aiming to do the right thing. He was trying defeat Hell, stop Lucifer. However, he got played. But, also, you can't really blame him because the angels were pulling strings. They wanted this. It's not Sam's fault old Yellow Eyes chose Sam to be one of his special children, which is where this addiction really stems.

Well, Sam has this rebellious personality, he does his own thing, John would tell him to do something, Sam would get pissed and demand an explanation, Dean told him not to go with Ruby, Sam fought him, the angels told Sam to stop using his powers, he uses them even more. His inner need to go against authority really cost everyone here, if he didn't go with Ruby and/or stopped using his powers, this wouldn't have happened. It makes sense to make your own choices, but Sam sometimes does things just because he was told to do something else, so he'll instinctively dig in and not see another's point

i'm sorry, i love sam, but in those seasons he had such a superiority complex, and that's what caused this honestly. yeah the angels pulled strings, but they really didn't have to do much... he let himself be manipulated by ruby super easily because she fed into his "you're so strong, you're gonna save everyone and no one understands you" complex. at the end of the day he was doing evil shit because he thought he was right and everyone else was wrong, blinded by a "for the greater good" mentality, when he would have realised something was wrong if he took 2 seconds of introspection...

Which means that even if he’d have listened this would have happened or at least something similar would have happened. It’s possible that the angels were telling him not to at first to get him to continue doing it, from Zachariah we find out that they have been pulling the strings and pushing for this to happen from the start

@@demontiming3234 From Zachariah we find out that upper management of the angels wanted the apocalypse, the angles on the ground, like Cas and the other front liners legitimately thought they were trying to stop it from happening. As far as we know, only a few things could kill Lilith, Sam is the only one in the story at this point, and the others that we know of if you've watched ahead aren't currently able, so a Sam not using his powers puts a giant pause on apocalypse, and if the top tier angels make their plans known to the entire angel army, I think rebellion is possible.

With all the evidence Sam is given he makes the correct choice. Its based both on his own feeling which are highly suspect (for both wanted revenge for what sent his brother to hell for 40 years, and the pain in did to both of them, his feelings of having his life being out of control, and his addiction to the demon blood. But at no point does anyway tell Sam that we don't need to stop Lilith. Even Dean says Lilith has to be stop, just that he's going to do it. Which both Sam and the audience knows he can't. And literally The death has to happen at a specific point and at a specific time. Sam could have done this to Lilith at another time in a different location, and you rid the world of one of its greatest threats. All Sam needs is the blood from one host (all of it, thus killing host and demon) and enough from Ruby but not enough to drain her completely. So basically grab three demons, and just drain enough (just not enough to kill) and he has the juice to get the job done.

I read somewhere that Ruby's "villian speech" is one of the best because she kept her mouth zipped right up until the end, the deed was done and she finally was able to reveal everything and it was too late to try stop it. Honestly I hate the bitch for playing Sam but I gotta give her props for pulling off what she set her mind on to do and giving nothing away.

The thing that I love so much about the first few seasons is how intricate they are. In this one episode so many things fall into place. From Azazel putting Sam in a place where he got killed by Jake and Dean making his deal, leading him to break the first seal. Ruby telling Sam to hold off on killing Lilith for two seasons knowing what the last seal was, then Lilith killing Dean knowing it would PISS Sam off enough to want to do everything he could to kill her. They did a really good job of tying up so many loose ends and having so many facets of the same end game. This is what made me fall so deeply in love with this show. Can’t wait for you guys to get into season 5! ❤️

Them changing the actor for Ruby helped me on enjoying her dying this episode. If it would have been S3 Ruby im surely would have been a bit sad caus she was great. He loves to watch humanity, he reprimands Uriel when he calls them 'mud monkeys' and he confesses he wasn't just stoicly following orders, he _prayed_ for Dean to save the town, because even in the grand scheme of things, Cas saw value in a couple thousand people

I don't blame Sam, I mean his choices led him here, like any other addict he was struggling but overall he had good intentions and only ever wanted to help people and make the world a better place with this "curse" that had been placed on him. Everyone from Ruby to the angels wanted this apocalypse to happen and if it hadn't been Ruby, the angels would've found some other way to make it all go down so Sammy was just a pawn in their game hoping he could help out a little and unfortunately he made a mistake.

well look at it like this anakin skywalker thought he was doing the right thing and making the world a better place but he was using darkside powers to try and save his wife and he believed killing the jedi would bring peace to the galaxy but all it did was throw the galaxy into chaos because the power corrupted him and sam kept using his demonic powers which dean and john and castiel kept warning him against and in this episode when his eyes turn black you can tell his demonic evil powers were starting to corrupt him they are called demonic powers for a reason he should have known using them alot would of had a cost and some side effects please let me know what you think

Kripke said that they intended for Ruby to do this all along, and the writers would delight in how twisted up the fans would get trying to decide if she was good or evil. Nathan is sort of right in that both brothers were being manipulated, but he’s wrong in that Dean said all along not to trust Ruby and he also said that he didn’t trust the angels, but went along to try and save his brother from doing exactly what he did - get addicted to demon blood and become a person who would drain a human being of all their blood and drink it (granted there was a demon inside her). Sam’s “reason” all along for doing what Ruby wanted was to AVOID hurting the humans the demons were possessing. BTW: the apocalypse isn’t Lucifer being out, it’s the war that follows between good and evil. Also, Sam didn’t turn into a demon, he just drank so much demon blood that it overtook his body.

It’s interesting that John knew since season 2 that Sam would do this and about the seals, that’s why he told Dean if you can’t save him you will have to kill him and why he didn’t break when he was in hell like dean did, because John knew he would be the first seal

I honestly see both points here. Sam has been saying since day 1 that he has always felt like a freak and that Dean sometimes even looks at him like a freak because he has demon blood in him and that’s not something Sam can just scrub clean, Azazel infected him with it and now it’s a part of him forever. Back in the first few seasons it was always Sam trying to see the good in everyone whether they were humans or monsters and he always had good intentions of saving everyone he could and when he couldn’t save the good people he’d beat himself up about it. Sam thought by using his powers to exercise demons without having to kill the human its possessing he thought he was doing the right thing. But at the same time by continuing to chug all this demon blood he himself is slowly starting to become a demon and his addiction for demon blood + all this rage he carries is not allowing him to think straight anymore thus turning against his own brother. I see both points i just think the analogies Cameron and Nathan used may not have been the best haha

Since she's a demon and the demons view Lucifer as a god. The question everyone should have asked from the beginning was what Ruby's opinion on Lucifer was. She wanted Lilith dead though her reasons were a bit vague and to help the brothers save the world but never once talked about the devil.

What a finale. Honestly, out of the entire Kripke era, S4 & S5 are BOTH my favorites, maybe even in the whole show. Dean broke the 1st seal and Sam broke the last, neither knew that they where breaking the seals until cass found out that Lilith dying was the final seal so dean was never making it in time to tell Sam, so they are both to fault. Season 5 is epic !!

Sam was still in the wrong whether his perspective was understandable or not. Dean wasn't perfect either but Sam didn't have to escalate that argument into a fight, that was his choice, and his choice led to starting the apocalypse and it led to Dean losing a major amount of trust in Sam because of it, and truth be told that fight changed the relationship between the two significantly. Sam should have just listened to Dean, and he tried to warn Sam about Ruby and the demon blood, but Sam is too stubborn for his own good thinking he knows everything and trusted a demon over his own brother. That's fucked.

Sam knew he was in the wrong by 1) teaming with a demon; and especially 2) drinking demon blood - we know he knew it was wrong because he tried to hide it from everyone. But he did what most of us do to try to justify our sins - we rationalize the crap out of it, ("what I'm doing is really not that bad because *insert random lame justification here*) And when we rationalize our sins we stay in them and they get worse, because we've gotten good at coming up with excuses to justify our every bad action - which is how Sam got to the point where he could murder that poor nurse who was begging Sam for her life til the last second - which yeeeeaaahhhh *turned Sam into a monster and the type of thing Sam & Dean usually kill*....Sam done f***ed up BIG TIME and has much to atone for I love y'alls nerd-show arguments, how passionate you are about fun stuff like this!

This is, I think my favorite season finale out of all 15 seasons. There's so much packed in here, and yet the pacing never suffers for it. They keep hitting you with reveal after reveal (the angels not wanting to stop the apocalypse is revealed in the middle but Ruby's betrayal isn't until the last 10) The rush of Cas & Dean fighting against prophecies, time & Heaven itself to stop the apocalypse from happening. Dean's yell of "SAM" and thinking, just maybe, Sam will pause The cliffhanger ending! Just, a Perfect season finale!

One thing that's never talked about in this episode, is that Bobby was being all types of toxic when he was talking to Dean. First, he tells Dean that it's ok for him to feel what he's feeling about Sam, but then turns around once Dean is expressing his feelings, and basically tells him to man up. And y'all wonder why Dean would rather throw fist and act violently than express how he feels? Because every time he does, his family mocks him and shuts him down. And on top of that, he tells Dean that it's ok for his family to treat him sh*t because they're family? Uh...no. Family doesn't have the right to treat you like sh*t because they're family. That's like Bobby excusing what John did to Sam and Dean simply because he was their father, kind of ironic because he basically dragged John after that. Anyway, this was probably the only time I wasn't Team Bobby because what he said was toxic and wrong on so many levels. And in this fandom, Dean is the one made to always look toxic while everyone else flies under the radar, so I thought I'll point out that Dean isn't the only one. I picked up right away that the Angels and Demons are similar, and the only difference is that one works for Heaven and the other works for Hell. Something that has been a theme is that they both have use seduction, manipulation, etc. to try and get Sam and Dean to do what they wanted them to do. However, if you noticed, despite all that, Sam and Dean, even when what the Angels and Demons were doing was working, they still had their doubts, questions, and morals. Nathan, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Dean was right about two things: Ruby was manipulative (he's been saying that since season 3) and that what Sam was doing was going to get darker and it did. His eyes didn't turn black because that was a sign of something good. And Dean was never going to kill Lilith because that's not what his destiny was. Even if he and Sam worked together to find Lilith, the Angels would've zapped Dean somewhere else or if they remained together, Sam still would've been the one pulling the trigger. This whole season was the saying "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." Just because you think you have good intentions doesn't mean it's not wrong. Sam might have had good intentions and was led to believe by Ruby that he was doing something right, but that doesn't change the fact that it was wrong. What Sam was doing was never meant to save the world, it was meant to bring destruction to the world. What Dean did brought destruction to the world, and he's supposed to save the world. There was also some foreshadowing when Dean and Zachariah were talking in front of that portrait, but I guess we'll find out what happens in my second favorite season.

Lilith was the final seal, and since Alistair was able to get stabbed with the knife and survive, I think Lilith could too. They could have avoided this if they would have just exorcised Lilith and put her back in the pit where she was trapped before the devil's gate opening freed her.

@@audreyii6750 With most demons, even stabs in non fatal spots usually die, this happens in the first episode of season 5 as someone possessed stabs themselves and kills the demon but they survive. Alistair was the first to literally pull the knife out of his chest multiple times. In later episodes it will be explained that the knife can't kill higher level demons as easily as the grunt level ones, that episode is pretty far off though

@@theelite3792 that was just so Bobby would survive & is the only time (iirc) a human survives while the demon inside dies Carver era lore doesn't count here, nothing that was in the Carver era (be they places, people or lore) have been thought of yet. As of s4&5, the knife can kill _any_ demon, that's why Alistair points out that Castiel got lucky by striking a few inches off (a meta way of explaining to the viewers why Alistair didn't drop dead) And the only reason he _didn't_ die is because they needed to reveal Sam is strong enough to torture information out of a demon & kill them now

@Audrey II Idk, it seems like ridiculous plot armor that every demon who gets stabbed dies instantly whenever they're stabbed in the body, but specifically with Alistair, not only does specific aim all of a sudden matter, their aim is also all of a sudden off even when they get him from behind or using angel powers. Also the fact that Lilith let them keep the knife despite knowing they needed Sam to use his powers to kill her, when we know she went out of her way to remove the colt specifically, it feels like she was letting them keep the knife because she knew that even with it, she was confident they couldn't kill her with it.

Since the time Davion said something nice about Ruby during one of her first appearances, i was waiting patiently 'till this episode so now i can leave the following comment, "NOPE SHE'S A B*TCH". That episode was pretty intense (The "communication" in the Covenant was "eeeek" because for the first time we could (sorta ?) hear Lucifer. Also, i was a bit terrified about the end as he was about to come. "What are they gonna do ? There is no way out" was my thought. After Uriel, Zachariah. As i must stay polite, i would write, "Another lovely angel". Basically, the "We were bored" pissed me off. A lot. Seriously, what is wrong with the angels ? How could that be possible ? And the other one said God has left the building in a "Meeh, whatever" way. Seriously ?! So many questions for the last episode from the 4th season. I hated this cliffhanger.

Sam got addicted to demon blood and the power it gives him. he was Willing to betray his brother for it. … also everyone didn’t keep telling him he’s going to be bad. He was told he’s at risk of being bad if he’s not careful.

At least you are not plain hating on Sam asfdadgag I'm a Sam!Girl and I never like the hate Sam got with the S4 finale. Blaming the apocalypse compleatly on him is wrong, yes, he did take some bad choices, and I'm not justifying his attitude, but this was clearly planned from even before Sam was born, with Lucifer asking for "A sepecial child" (it ending being Sam). Besides there is the fact NONE knew Lilith actully WAS the last seal until Cas rebel, so even if Sam wouldn't have killed her himself, Dean would have or anyone would have done it, it was never specify that Sam HAD to be the one killing the Lilith and braking the seal, they WANTED him to be the one braking it. I personally blame most of everything that was going on to Angels and Demons. The Angels could have easily stopped Sam if they wanted to, but the point is they didn't want him to stop. They were the ones who told Cas to free Sam from the bunker. Everything going on is more complex than simply saying "Dean was right and Sam was wrong" Sam's situation is the "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" phrase at its finest.
