Sam has every right to not want an angel possessing him. I feel like a lot of people don’t fully understand Sam’s pov in this situation. Sam’s been possessed by Meg, ghosts, Lucifer, like literally all of the above and all using him to hurt/kill people. He doesn’t want anything using HIS body to harm anyone else. I feel like he already has trouble feeling like he’s in control over his life, and his decisions (from back when he was a kid, John being so controlling, Ruby manipulating him for like a year straight, all the most influential people in his life being demons put there by yellow else, even Dean can be controlling sometimes) he just wants the right to decide what to do with his own mind and his own body and I get that. And I get that Dean had never been possessed before so he doesn’t, and honestly it makes sense. But still. Sam didn’t WANT to die, when he had the choice to go with Death or go with Dean he chose Dean. But he wasn’t willing to be possessed if that’s what it took for him to survive, and while I’m glad he survived, I feel like Dean could’ve handled the situation better. Told Cas, or SOMEONE to help him figure out what to do. And for Dean to hold that information from Sam? That’s messed up. The idea of another being sitting inside ur head, able to watch you any given moment, read your thought, look through ur memories, see ur insecurities and weaknesses. Without your knowledge? Without your consent? That’s an invasion of privacy in the most messed up way possible.

Sam is a person who loves freedom and free will. His whole problem with John and some issues with Dean was that they need to let him make his own choices. That's why John got angry at Sam because he wanted to make his own life because being with John meant following orders. Because of John's parenting Dean often wants to also take Sam's choices away. Even dying is a choice Sam would want to have but often isn't allowed to have because of Dean. (Which is okay for Dean to want Sam alive.) However, it is important to remember that both brothers choices are deeply rooted into how they grew up and their experiences. Sam's trauma with Lucifer has made him fear being possessed. Its essentially taking away a choice which is a trigger for Sam.

Look, I'm one of the first people to call John out for his questionable parenting, but I don't think he tried to take his children's free will away. He thought he was protecting them, even though it might not have been the best way to do that. And even when all three of them got together again, and John still tried to act like a warden, he realized, after being told off a couple of times by Dean, that his children were grown men now and they can take care themselves and he loosened his grip a bit. As far as Dean goes, he doesn't want to take Sam's free will away, that implies he does it on purpose, which he doesn't. He was raised to treat Sam as the be all end all, so his first instinct is always to save and protect Sam. Now, there have been several times throughout the show where Dean does take a step back and lets Sam do his own thing. But as we've seen, whenever Sam is given that opportunity of freedom, he always comes back to Dean for whatever reason.

@TBFC1985 you misunderstand, my comment wasn't about John's perspective or how his actions are justified. I am saying that is how Sam and Dean feel and those are the consequences. I am saying Sam and Dean developed who they are due to John. Will they have misunderstandings of John's intentions, yes they will.

@@setofreakinkaiba8553 I didn't misunderstand you. Anybody watching the show knows that John played a major factor into how his kids function as adults. But my point is that yes, Sam and Dean saw John's actions as one way, while John saw his actions another way and it wasn't until the three of them were together that he realized the damage. So, we're saying the same thing, I'm just not keeping it at Sam and Dean.

And I gave John and Dean's perspectives. There was no need for me to give Sam's perspective when you already did that.

To be fair to Davion at 21:05 , back in season 3 when Dean was just accepting death, Sam was telling him that was bullshit and he should care and do something about it. Sam was also trying to find a resolution while Dean didn't want him to.

Glad you pointed that out. I feel that a lot of times Dean says he doesn't want Sam to do things for him and gets angry when he tries to save him but then also gets angry when he doesn't try. Most of the fans empathize with Dean which is okay and expected but he kinda seems unhappy either choice you take and it's because he doesn't say what he actually wants.

That’s mostly because of Dean’s self worth issues. Dean doesn’t believe his life matters, that other lives are important than his. This is thanks to John making him watch over Sam and the Hunter lifestyle of saving people but having to do it from the shadows without the world knowing. Dean also doesn’t want anyone to get hurt or die or having something worse happen to then just to save his life, especially Sam

I think its very different to know for a fact that A.) Dean will be going to _hell_ to be tortured forever B.) Dean is going to hell _for Sam_ C.) It won't be a natural death, a hell hound will be coming to drag him there

There's a line that everyone seems to forget, that Bobby once said. "When it's your time to go, you go." I believe Sam took that to heart, but it was never explained that way. When Dean went to Purgatory, Sam had no idea where he went. To Sam, Dean died. Sam was going to let it go. Sam WILL try and save Dean when he can. But at the moment there was no attempt by him because he believed it was done. Kevin was taken away from him, Bobby was dead etc. Sam really had nothing left in that time period but himself. He never wanted the Hunter's life even though he's good at it, just like Dean. But Sam always could break away from it. And that's what he did. Very wrong of him, but it's understandable if you have that mindset. Kevin could have still been saved from Crowley but Sam obviously didn't do it. Sam in fact always wanted to die it seems, the ultimate sacrifice, etc. from the early parts of the show. But when it came to being ill by the trials, Sam was willing to go, and in my eyes it GOES back to what Bobby says. "When it's your time to go, you go". Dean though brought Sam back.

I definitely agree with all of you guys cause Dean wanted to to save Sam that’s why he had him possessed so he could be healed but obviously Sam would rather die than have all this nonsense happen again so nobody else gets hurt but Dean can’t live on without Sam Dean will always fight and die fighting to Save Sam that is his mission and Dean will never abandon his mission
