I don't know what's more painful to watch - Sam crying so badly and the gun shaking in his hands and turning around to have one last painful look at Dean, or having Dean see his little brother like this and the silent tear falling from his eye and Dean jumping at the sound of the gunshot. Show, you're killing me.

Just watched this episode and the ending had me in tears. Seeing Sam's face full of tears broke me and then seeing Dean shed a tear and then flinch at the gun shot had me crying so badly. Man i love this show so damn much

Supernatural has been one of my top three favorite shows on tv for years, and it’s because of scenes like this. Beautifully written and acted, and the use of Silent Lucidity just tops it off. I have a brother a few years younger than me and when dean says ‘I got this’ and Sam says ‘she asked me’...I don’t care man, my fucking heart breaks every time. My favorite scene from the entire run of the show, hands down.

i’m in shock after watching this for the first time. it’s such a different tone from the rest of the episode, i was not expecting this scene to absolutely break my heart. it’s just so weird to me how moving this scene was, like??? sam slept with her _once_ and they literally met the girl days ago, yet it feels like a major character death. definitely a more memorable scene from the show.

Now he finally has some. Shares intimacy with her, which means something to Sam, and less than 24 hours later, he has to kill her. Make no mistake. It was a minor role. But she was a major character

when I first started watching Supernatural, I never once imagined that It would end up having such emotional scenes, this one especially. The acting by both Jensen and Jared was phenomenal, and to have it all to the tune of Silent Lucidity made for perfection. This scene breaks my heart each and every time, and the tears start falling. Well done boys, your acting made Supernatural what it was!

As harrowing as it was to see this happen to Sam with him killing Madison, what really makes me tear up every time I see this scene isn't Sam and Madison's tragic romance-end; rather, it's how big-brotherly Dean is being here, when he takes the gun and volunteers to do it himself so Sam doesn't have to, but his baby bro faces his battle and insists on doing it himself anyway.

Everyone talking about Sammy being sad but I'm thinking about Dean. Dean who is seeing his brother struggling but can't do anything about it. Dean who knows how hard it is gonna be for Sam and offers to do it himself to free Sam of his guilt

As someone with a younger cousin whom I'm close to and trusted to be a mentor figure towards (we're each an only child), and as someone who related to this scene particularly strongly, I think Dean was actually quite decisive about what he wanted to do in this scene. He really wanted to at least give Sam the option of letting Dean kill Madison for him and spare him some of the pain, and Dean wouldn't have held any shame towards Sam for choosing that, but it was ultimately Sam's choice and wish, and so when his baby brother stepped up to the task and pleaded with him to let him do it, Dean respected that wish - much as he wished his baby bro didn't have to go through this.

Then, Sam gave Dean a look as if to say, 'Dean, I asked you that too-maybe one day, if I turn into a monster, you have to kill me.' That’s why, when Sam said, 'Yes, I do have to kill her.
