Jared is brilliant as soulless Sam and one of my favorite parts of S6. He was so well into it that Jensen was actually struggling to react opposite of him because it was so weird. He was great as Meg and Lucifer too.

I'm surprised Jared never took a role of a villain on a different show/movie, he'd kill at it. When I first watched season 6 the dynamic between Soulless Sam and Dean threw me off and I didn't like it, but looking back on it now I kinda miss it. While I didn't like Soulless Sam and yeah he was way better with a soul, it was nice seeing Sam laidback and not so uptight, he seemed funnier somehow. Sam was always the level headed one and while it balanced the brothers out it did make Sam dull at times, especially when the writers gave most of the funny lines and scenarios to Dean. Looking back though it was weird at first I also actually enjoyed seeing Dean as the level headed one here, this makes me wish the writers had mixed it up more often.

I love this episode. So the fandom trended Fight the Fairies when this aired live and had to explain much like Dean we weren't being homophobic but literal. It doesn't age well at all but it was hilarious. That fight Dean has with Tinkerbell is iconic. Sam is just HILARIOUS this episode.

Someone else mentioned once that Soulless Sam shows what a strong filter normal Sam had. I think it also shows just how much of his empathy and sympathy are an integral part of his true personality. Fun side note, Soulless Sam is a dog(/Dean) because his emotions aren't getting in the way. In Season 4 Sam reminded Dean that he 'doesn't pay' for sex but now we've seen him do it. That was actually my first clue something fundamental was off about him.

Definitely a funny episode although it’s not progressing the story a lot. Sam’s line “why didn’t I do that earlier?” was added by Jared when filming because he thought it would have been an obvious thing to do

I really enjoyed soulless Sam. I think it was a good idea to bring him back from the cage without his soul and Jared did a great job playing him so differently. "Empathy, Sam, empathy" always cracks me up 😂

To add what Patrick said, in SPN, there are more than one type of fairy, as noted in this episode by the fairy lady. This includes Leprechauns. The fairy that Dean microwaved is called a Pixie. So, the villian of this episode is both a fairy and a Leprechaun.

So one of the reasons most fans dislike Soulless Sam so much is he's basically a totally new character. Sure he's funnier than OG Sam and still has a few of his original traits but he's still very different, almost to the point where fans wonder why they didn't just replace Sam all together with a new actor/character. The whole thing felt like a reboot and the dynamic between the brothers was off, fans weren't used to Dean being the responsible levelheaded one, it's not what drew them into the series.

I don't think hating Soulless Sam was a majority at all. At least not from being in the fandom and watching it live. Everyone was enjoying it as it happened.
