Even though Crowley was my joint favourite character (with Cas), I felt like his story had come to an end. He didn't really make a good big bad anymore, and the boys were on too good terms with him for him to just pop up as an adversary every so often. He was too powerful to become a real good guy because it'd make every week 'call Crowley and get him to fix it' the logical solution. Maybe they could have depowered him like Cas, but doing that with both the main demon and main angel? Don't thimk it'd work. He'd had a huge, long character arc, with a vast amount of character development. His story had to end eventually, and I think him sacrificing himself to take down Lucifer, and to protect the boys, was a perfect finale for him. I just wish his sacrifice had a bit more of an effect, because I don't like that it was in vain. Rowena was in much the same bracket. There was nowhere left for her character to go really. I doubt they'll kill Cas off before they end the show for good. He's become as much of a mainstay as Sam and Dean. And comes back from the dead just as often, so I'm sure we'll continue to be treated to more of the wonderful Misha.

This is a comment I found that I thought was worth sharing, noted that it is not my original: This is an ongoing theory, though. Watch Cas from the moment that he comes 'back' from that other dimension. There's a lot of weird pauses (like when Kelly asks where he was, HOW he answered her, Cas is generally inappropriately honest unless he's got a reason to not be). His eyerolling when he sees Sam and Dean at Kelly's cries of pain, his impatience at healing Dean, and doing it with a 'forehead boop' instead of his usual way.. that weird ringing sound when he did. Why he suddenly appeared in the other universe? I mean, sure, he could have to protect Sam and Dean, but he didn't even acknowledge them and it was likely the plan to have him stay out to be there to protect Kelly and the baby in case stuff didn't work out. (Probably why that attack that didn't work, so Lucifer wouldn't suspect, Luci would just figure Cas didn't run because he knocked Cas out..) And the dead Cas has the imprint of wings that look...odd even for angel wings, and especially don't look like Cas's post-fall damaged wings. So...I'm thinking, either a creation of the Nephilim (explains the gold light when healing Dean, too), of other universe Cas. Which may be how Mary survives in the other world long enough for the boys to save them, especially if he can fly again, there, and that universe's Cas, having heard the story, may want to preserve at least ONE place where things went somewhere right. His own realm is probably past saving. That's my theory, at least.

I agree. I think back to the point where Sam almost managed to kill Crowley with Rowena's spell. In one of my favorite scenes in the series he thanks Sam for reminding him what he is. A demon. This self sacrifice was totally out of character. I understand he hated Lucifer but Crowley has always been self serving and above all else wanted to escape death whenever possible. In reality he would have let Sam be the life needed. Sam totally would have sacrificed himself and Crowley knows he could simply escape to their dimension, which would be Lucifer-free and ripe with a newborn nephilim that he could influence. As was his plan earlier in the season. All this has done has weakened this character for me.

Dayshaun Weston although I agree with the "puppy" thing, I think it happened way more than that. I think Crowley's​ character had a incredible development. When we first met him, he led the Winchesters into a suicide mission giving them the colt to kill Lucifer. Now after all these years, he became a kind of weird uncle who is always there for them, but refuses to admit that he loves them. And having him killing himself to save the boys, is the ultimate grow up for little old Crowls.

Interesting take on it. Crowley's character was something of a marry-go-round of villain to ally to villain, etc. If you think back, his character has made several 180's but I believe this was always their ultimate intention ever since the blood addiction literally reminded him of what it was like to be human. Like with anything else, time and thought has changed my perception. That, or I've gone through the cycle of grief and I've finally reached acceptance.

He doesn't seem to approve of Cass getting killed. So it fits. Until Misha gets sick of being on the show, the show ends, or something horrible happens (avert!), I think Castiel's in for the long haul.

Everyone talking about Castiel and here i am saddest about Crowley, his sacrifice shows a ton of character development and most of all, it's likely that he won't be coming back. Castiel hasn't been an interesting character in years and he'll most likely be brought back by God. his death was just for the shock factor, meaningless.

Honestly I hope i'm not the only one who absolutely loved this season finale, I mean every bit of it was amazing to me, the Dean/Mary part was long overdue, and until the very end I had no idea how it was going to finish. Crowley's death was perfect to me, it broke my heart but this was a great way to go, he didn't belong in hell anymore or anywhere really, and even though Cas died I'm pretty sure the nephilim will bring him back or something like that.

Castiel and/or Crowley surviving their deaths would be complete asspulls on the part of the writers. For Crowley, this was the moment where he finally had a shred of nobility. Sacrificing himself to lock away Lucifer in Earth-2 wasn't really a heroic act - he did it to have the last laugh on Lucifer. This is a fitting end to his character arc. If he didn't die here, it'd be insane to think Sam and Dean wouldn't kill him in the future. Castiel, on the other hand, is a bit of a problem character. In season 4 and 5, it was clear where he stood in terms of power. He was the Winchester's guardian, but there were beings out there that were stronger than him. With the archangels, alphas, knights of hell, and princes of hell all dead (save for one prince of hell, who we have yet to meet), it would be very hard for the writers to justify not having Castiel just smite whoever the big bad was. And even if the Nephilim is largely more powerful than Cas (which has basically been confirmed), Cas had been able to kill one in the past. He was even sure that he'd be able to kill the antichrist, who was also stronger than him. Removing Castiel is a bold choice for the writers, but I think it's a good choice. I mean, how many times do they need to depower, humanize, or make Cas lose his mind before it just gets to be redundant? At some point, they just have to decide that his character isn't going anywhere, and to let him go. Now, they may try and twist this and say that somehow it was Earth-2 Castiel that died, but that would be a pretty lame cop-out.

but crowley's Sacrifice was in vain! luci was able to leave earth 2 and kill cas also mary had to knock him back into rift trap him when the rift closed trapping herself there with him. mostly likely going to be tortured by him even after he kills her.

I totally agree with you here, especially with Crowley. His character arc was over, and he died a hero, fixing his mistakes, plus a last laugh on Lucifer. On Castiel though, it might be because he's my favorite so I might be a biased in this, but I just don't want him to die permanently yet. Season 4-6 Cas was so badass and awesome, but still has a selfless heart and the awkward, cutiepie that we all know and love. After that, he became weak, and tortured, even dumber. No matter how much he tries to fix his mistakes, decides what he thinks is right, it's like it always ends up worse. I blame shitty writing for that. I want him to have one last chance, to be back on being the Winchester's Guardian, the angel that loves humanity, but with dignity, stronger and wiser. If they're going to let him go, let him die with guns and blades blazing, not just die trying.

This is honestly the best thing they could have done for the show. Castiel and Crowley were great characters when first introduced, they invigorated the show with new and refreshing life. However, they've been around for 7-8 seasons - longer than most shows have even run - and it was time for a change of pace. The point of the show is about two brothers hunting monsters, and Castiel/Crowley were beginning to - to an extent - weigh down the plot by being forced to incorporate them, thus making the beats of each season somewhat predictable. The show isn't about the supporting characters, it's about Sam and Dean. The show was amazing prior to introducing recurring characters with their shelf lif, so Season 13 (assuming they stay dead) will add some familiarity. But it's also going to be awesome to see, not only how the plot will shift without having to include Castiel/Crowley, but the fallout from it and how Sam/Dean will react to it.

What pissed me off is that they killed cas right after Crowley. Me, I fucking hate Cas now. Everyone knows that Cas will come back sooner or later, (13.03) and it still pisses me off that Crowley literally gets no mourning time. He got mentioned ONCE in season 13 so far. For him being a character for 7 SEASONS. He gets no credit and no mourning. It absolutely pisses me off. If he doesn’t fucking return. (Which I know he won’t, because the fan base and writers hate Crowley, no official merch, no nothing) this show will go down as one of my least favorite shows and a huge let down. I didn’t watch as this character grew and arched and killed off in such a terrible manner only to be forgotten by the next season? Fuck you writers.

I mean that's really too bad the show writers got me to a point, where I don't really care about major character dying, because they never stay dead. Even when Bobby died, they dragged his ass for another season as a ghost. Cas alone has died like 5 times since season 4, Crowley was "dead" too a couple of times and don't even get me started on Sam and Dean. Man I could rant for hours, about the drop of quality writing in this show... Lucifer used to be this pure evil that everyone feared, he would walk in and fucking murder a bunch of GODS then he would snap his fingers and explode Castiel to bits, or twist his wrist and snap Bobbys neck and now they beat him with some brass knuckles? Come on! And I don't care that they have some enochian spells on them, he's The Devil, the ultimate evil that even the Colt can't kill, but sure, punch him in the face a few times, that should work. Another big issue that comes to mind right now is death of Death. I mean wtf? Did they really that easily got rid of one of the most (if not the most) powerful beings in the universe and one of the most interesting side characters on the show? Without any impacting reprocusions? That's a little stupid imo, just seems like they're running out of ideas, so they just come up with new shit that wasn't mensioned before (that definitely should have come into place) or stretch existing rules of the show's universe to the point where it seems like a different show. :/ too bad, I really loved this show once, back when it had simpler rules and plot wasn't so convoluded all the time. 1-5 seasons are the best

I can't watch this freaking show without Cas honestly. The show would be 14832908 times better if it he was actually in every episode. I think that next season (leading up to the episodes before they bring them back) is going to be such a disappointing realization of how much potential the show has to relive its glory utilizing these characters. By now, we fucking get it. Sam and Dean will do anything for each other, whoopee. Ffs can't we just have a season where there's not a ridiculous villain without Cas and Crowley? If it's extended a few more seasons, I have a couple of ideas that will become material for the new topic in my mind. E.g; Amara is in an alternative phase, creating her own children ... Like archangels and angels, but raw materials are darkness. Strong and supposedly opposite to supernatural beings. They can not make an agreement with God's creation, but war on them. I think it would not be interesting and creative. Lucifer's Dark Twins. But he does not agree with him. Newly created extraordinary beings equal to your power. There are conflicts between them. It lasts at least 10 more seasons. Eventually, the series went through 12 seasons of God's creation. I need a little bit of different things. New and unknown. Strong. He can not be stopped outside of Amara.

Crowley really did alot of character development throughout the entire time. Evil bastard to a sorta anti-hero like demon. Castiel dying didnt bothered me as much cause if he only listened to dean and sam and just left the portal, he would still be alive ( I think) just excited to see how this story goes when its just the boys by themselves mainly. There is still a arch-demon left and michael is still alive, who knows what crazy thing will happen know. Also random note: I hate how they built up Mr.Ketch as a extreme badass but he really wasnt all that at the end of it.
