As shown in this episode, regarding your question of why Cas chose Jimmy, it is, as stated, “in his blood”. That’s not metaphorical, but rather a literal statement. Unlike demons, angels can’t just reside in any vessel, only certain people can contain them, and the stronger the angel, the fewer the vessels that can host him.

"if Castiel had not been as incredibly charismatic and as complicated as he turned out to be, we would've grown tired of that story line and ended up killing him and blowing the angel story line off, like we have in the past to other story lines that haven't entirely worked for us. To me, one of the best episodes of the whole series! 3:00 LMAO! Bloody flask, Double entendre. 3:44 Felt like you were in the car w/ them maybe when Anna popped up? LOL 5:05 What a dick! I always felt like he could have played along to make her happy. 5:59 He even looked like a junkie when he had no blood. You noticed in On The Head of A Pin after he drank Ruby's blood how neat he looked. Hair in place and 1000000 times more arrogance: "now I can kill". Before his fix he looked like shit! Cas and Uriel shoulda just took Sam w/ them. He would have had Alistair talking in 2 seconds. Well of course after he finished his audition for the role of Dracula. 6:36 I swear everyone I have seen react to this episode predicted Roger from the door. He almost looked demonic already, his eyes looked kinda black when he walked in. 8:54 One of best parts of the episode. Palm Sunday.

Sam is out of demon blood. He's crabby & impatient. When they were all getting into the car mom said "I'm right here" the demon that left the neighbor that Sam couldn't kill must've gone into her then.

I mean. . .I remember when this was on TV, this season & my gf & I at the time were in highschool & I remember we used to argue about Sam using his powers. I was completely against him using powers given by a demon who offed his mother & she was more like you & a number of other people who were like if he has it he should use it. Man, when it got to this point I handled it like a champ. . .I mocked her like I was 5 until she threatened to end my love life but I mean c'mon, demonic powers had to cost! Credit to Eric Kripke, he was the man with a plan!
