Rating - 8/10 - The boys discussing their feelings FINALLY was needed & it made this ep worthwhile I felt. I enjoyed the honesty, it's a shame a Supernatural being was needed to get that honesty though. I love Garth, he's such a sweet & pure guy. I didn't enjoy the Bobby-esque lines as I feel Garth is so good he could have his own lines. I enjoyed the monster of the week, it felt very early SPN days. Not a huge lover of Sam's flashbacks but at the same time they are needed to fill in some blanks. Looking forward to the next one.

You make an amazing point about Deans trauma re: betrayals. Well said, seriously. My thoughts on Amy vs Benny - Sam's friend was actively killing people...motivations be damned, which made her a murderer. Dean could have done Sam a "solid" by trying to ignore his intuition about Sams crappy judgement like he did with Ruby. But he didn't and I think it was the right call. Next time her son got sick, she'd be murdering people again. I was really happy to hear Dean go OFF because Sam deserved to hear it, and Sam being a douchebag and telling Dean he needs to "move on" made me want to throttle him...but we all know they can't stay mad for too long. 😊

You can say how Amy was killing people, but it was only to save her son, she wasn't killing until her son got sick and she stopped after that. Killing was the only way to save her son, she didn't choose to be a Kitsune. How many bad things have Sam and Dean done for each other?? Sam and Dean would killed for each other, even humans, so is not that different. Plus Sam and Dean has killed more people than her. Since they got the Demon Knife and the Angel Blade they just killed without thinking about the person inside anymore, so they are killing people too.

@@sofialu226 This is about the word "betrayal" and the difference between Amy and Benny. I'm not here to talk about every character that has ever killed someone on the show. Like I said, "motivations be damned", Amy was still technically a monster who was killing people, so she was technically qualified to get put down. Dean said himself that if Benny went down that road he'd take care of him personally. It would seem in his mind, at *that* point, after all the experiences of trusting people/creatures only to have it backfire... Dean was done with making exceptions because it has only led to trouble. But in this show, as we've seen, things change.

I actually don't really see Sam not searching for Dean as canon. I look at it more as a plothole and bad writing - Jared himself didn't really agree with that because he knew it didn't make sense for Sam as a character, and he knows him best... Still, I love that you at least try to see it from Sam's persepective, since so many fans don't! I love your reactions, as always. Also, season 10 is a good season for you if you like Dean in burgundy (as we all do) ;)

Sam didn't know there was anything to search for. He thought Dean & Castiel were dead. He couldn't do a locator spell since they were in a different dimension. He couldn't reopen Purgatory since it'd let out all the creatures again.

For me the big difference between Benny and Amy has always been simple. No matter her motive amy was murdering people. And if her son had ever gotten sick again or hell any number of other reasons she’d have murdered more because she showed that even if she doesn’t like it she is willing, able, and won’t resist killing people. Now for Benny I can’t remember how many he did or didn’t kill before dying once but in purgatory he proved himself to be someone dean could trust and saved him many times that buys him 1 chance and Benny hasn’t wasted that chance as of yet.

Not a fan of Amelia but I heard a theory that sam was suicidal because he lost his whole family and that's part of the reason he accidently hit the dog. Also not hunting or searching for dean. Being in that head space is very hard. Amelia helped him pull himself out of that. And for that he cared about her. At least that was the theory and it sort of makes sense.

I never ever liked the Amelia/Sam storyline, if it was a different time in the show maybe But the fact that Sam left Dean in purgatory for her and she wasn’t even that great makes me mad. Again.. if it was a different time in the show maybe I woulda liked it but nope I hated it.

That whole arch made me lose any hope for Sam's redemption and start wishing Dean would just ditch the baggage his brother has become and move on. Maybe even start hunting with Benny. His real brother, his eternal brother, the man who deserves to be his brother forever. (😢😢😢)

The Amelia and Sam story was just annoying the whole time, Amelia was not a great character and Sam's fascination with her seemed odd but I also look at it like he was just clinging onto someone that had a similar experience and didn't want to be alone in it, even though she was extremely annoying and the whole flashback thing just felt unnecessary. Just say he was with a girl and move past that

What I thought of with Sam not looking for Dean has to do with his mental health. He was dealing with the hallucinations the season before and cas took then but Sam might have had something like PTSD and losing Dean and Cas at the end if the fight might have triggered some things in him sbd he had no one, as Crowley said He was utterly and truly alone.

I did not love the Sam/Amelia thing; I had trouble believing Sam would not even look for Dean Cas, or even Kevin a little bit, *BUT* Sam has latched on to/fallin in love with independent women quickly in the past (Madison the werewolf, for example). He seems to like women that aren't afraid to be a little aggressive when talking to him, and he has always (except when he had no soul) been the one to sense when people need emotional help & wanted to offer them that. I could also see, suffering from the trauma of Dean, Cas, and Kevin all just suddenly being taken from him, Sam kinda shutting down, not wanting to hunt, and also not wanting to get close to anyone else that might be taken from him *again* But then he meets Amelia, and he likes her... fire, I guess (even if it's all smoke & mirrors to hide that she's hurting, cause that's how Sam feels, too). And, as for Amelia's contradiction about now pitying Sam, I think she was was being sarcastic, trying to livin up the mood^.^ Every time I rewatch these episodes, I understand where the writers were trying to go with Sam and Amelia a little more~

It's interesting seeing these snippets of Amelia flashbacks after 7 years because I ALWAYS skip them when rewatching the series. It's been long enough that I'd completely forgotten the details within them.

The barriers are there on both sides - same for how petty they are both getting. And sadly Garth won't be the only one who got stuck in the crossfire between these guys who used to like each other. Dean seemed to listen at the end but Sam threatening Benny as sort of a payback which just goes to show they were not getting past this rough patch anytime soon.

Yeah Amelia was joking at the end there. Sam doesn't sleep around and usually stays with the ones he does. Actually, I think the last girl he slept with before Amelia was Ruby I think. But Amelia was like a life raft while Sam had nothing and was running away.

Exactly! When ppl talk about it like that's a bad character quality for Dean, just look at their history! Whenever Dean has opened up in the past, either Sam just freakin STANDS THERE or THROWS IT BACK IN HIS FACE! I prefer every moment in this show where Dean and Sam r separated cuz Dean's life is ALWAYS better without Sam and no-one can tell me otherwise. In the beginning, I wasn't a Sam hater. I loved their relationship. But then it started reminding me of Stockholm Syndrome and I became a Sam Hater.

Dean isn't completely innocent. He talks down to people constantly and he sees himself as the exception to the rules. They're lives are better with each other because they're all they have. Sam needs Dean because it helps him be better and Dean needs Sam because he forced him to admit how he really feels. Dean likes to hide his feelings and just bottle it up instead of expressing it and dealing with it.

@@Isobel31Swan the only time he uses them against him is when things don't add. Dean kills monsters and sees the world in Black or White now all of a sudden he thinks they should be given a chance. It doesn't track. He's always been that way. Sam is usually the one to tell him that monsters aren't just monsters but entities with feelings and dreams just like them. You would think that it would only fuel his worldview. Sam tries to help and get him to talk but in typical Dean fashion he shuts down after opening up. So Sam can't do anything but stand there. Dean also looks down on Sam constantly and acts like every decision Sam makes is a wrong one. Don't act like Dean doesn't have his more than fair share of problems

I'm late on watching your reactions because I've been busy but I'm catching up lol But yes you are right about Dean not being open with Sam, I love Dean so much but yes he has that issue!!, and I think it is because of the way they grew up! Dean is basically Sam's parent so he's not open towards him, he feels like he needs to put on this mask and hide everything from him! remember how he hide the supernatural for the sake of Sam's childhood when they were kids, it's the same thing, he keeps his feelings, his issues, even himself !! all hidden to "protect" Sam because Sam is his child!! And Sam well I think he doesn't quite see this. So yea it's a BIG issue, and hopefully they some day fix it, and have a better relationship a healthier one, because they can you know, they just need to work on it. Also Amelia and Sam, it is supposed to feel odd I think, because Sam wanted to be with her to have his apple pie life outside of hunting, forgetting about his issues, avoiding them without properly working on them, that's something he's tried a couple of times, and it doesn't really works, as always he needs to find a healthier way to deal with his reality, I mean yea he deserves to have his sort of normal life but he also need to comfront his actual life with demons and angels and all that crazy sh*t ! :p These guys!!!! believe me I also struggle watching them deal with so many issues hehe but I know they can do it!!

Pointing out how good Dean looks in burgundy made me chuckle. All I'll say is, keep an eye out for that color on him in the future and its significance. :) As for Amelia and Sam not looking for Dean, I don't think anyone liked that storyline. Not even Jared, who said he had issues with it from the start. It is so OOC for the boys that it just made no sense to anyone. That alone makes us dislike Amelia no matter if she had been a good character or not. I just found her rude and condescending. I still wish there was at least one line from Sam telling Dean that he did try looking for Dean but found nothing. At least that would have been better than him not looking at all. And more in character.

1:45 this is what gets me...over the past 7-8 years BOTH the boys have screwed up in very similar ways and had beneficial times as well...if anything they are kinda even After 5 dean had the year with Lisa...now Sam had the year with chick and dog Sam has kept secrets and turned his back on dean cos he thought he was doing the right thing, so too has dean to Sam Both have gone through hell, dean adding purgatory to the list, Sam had lucifer in his head Dean gave in to his instincts and killed Amy, and there have been times where both let “monsters” go on faith they wouldn’t kill So they might not be exactly scored, but the scales seem quite balanced as to who has screwed up more than the other... So they BOTH need to sack up and accept that they BOTH have screwed up, and both learn from life, maybe just at slightly different rates

Benny didn't have any occasions (time) to let him down to be fair. I hated the way this episode ended (even if I like it overall because Garth is a treasure). Sam is, again, pissing me off there. What grates me is that he never actually apologized, never recognized he did anything wrong regarding not looking for Dean (or not at least looking into what could have happened to him. There wasn't a body), he only gave justifications after justifications for his actions but without any of the remorses. Worse, he has the gall to get pissy at Dean for not getting over his hurt already. Firstly: how long has it been? A few weeks? Secondly: maybe Dean would have had an easier time moving on faster if you've shown any care at all for his feelings, Sam, instead of being all "me, me, me" about it. Dean is not perfect (for instance, I don't think it's fair to hold Sam accountable for anything he did while souless) but he has every rights to feel betrayed there (because he was), and him having to just swallow what happened and act like he's the one that need to apologize is beyong awfull.

The fact that there's a "crowd" at all should tell you something. Deans made mistakes too, but to be a revisionist historian about all of Sam's betrayals and lies and failures that led up to this moment kinda flies in the face of reality.

If you think Azazel created a "monster" out of Sam, he aint got nothin on Dean Winchester and his drive to protect baby Sammy from the tough calls, big bad fights, harmful behavior any real danger, and accountability for his shit decisions being #1. Soapbox moment 😂 What has bugged me over time is the whole show vs. tell thing. We're *told* via other characters and exposition that Sam is the smarter, more empathetic, loyal, more humane brother and that Dean is the joker, the dumbass, the gearhead, the unsympathetic, trigger happy hedonist with no respect for the value of human life. So we subconsciously have these notions about who they are... and how that plays out can seem pretty lopsided. The problem (or the most interesting thing, depending on how you look at it) is, what we're *shown* is so incongruent with what we're *told* about these guys via their own words and actions, that it's either easy for some to see, or a difficult hurdle for some to overcome because of their absorbed lore regarding who these guys are SUPPOSED to be. It's like an escalation of commitment with people who can't see Sam as other than "good" because that's a belief they prescribed to early on. They cling to that ideal even in the face of cold, hard reality. Dean can be a dickhead. So can Sam. But they're both, in their way, heroic when push comes to shove. That's the compelling thing - they're too complex to categorize, so I wish people would stop making generalizations about S &D because they are very well rounded and developed characters that defy the stereotypes again and again.

Both of the boys are extremely self-absorbed and hypocritical which is why neither of them are even top 10 as far as my favorite characters go.

People was angry with sam for not looking for Dean in purgatory, but people never think on "How would Sam know??" Castiel was also gone and he had literally nobody to help him know that. From Sam's perspecive Dean was dead, and Sam couldn't do anything to bring Dean back. There was no way to do it, except for a deal, but you really think Sam would be back to make Deals wih Demons after everything that happened before?? He had to force himself to move on, Sam has been never the type of person who would let the past define him, and stop him. But without Dean he was alone and it was hard to not thinking about it, until he met Amelia and help him to move on. Maybe it wasn't the best relationship, but it was helping both of them. Ask yourself what would you do in that situation?? You ended up losing everyone you care about, being alone. He was literally alone at that room at season 7 finale. I only get upset for the Kevin thing, but if you think about it, what could Sam do alone against Crowley and ALL the Demons?? Even if he find where Kevin was, alone he wouldn't be able to face the demons and rescue him. Of course I get Dean's reaction, from Dean's perspective he was trapped in purgatory for a year and when he goes out he finds out Sam didn't look for him? An he was having a cute normal life. His anger is understable, he felt betrayed for Sam. But I don't get angry at Sam because I understand his perspective too. I understand both. Is honestly an annoying feeling because I'm with both at the same time xD

The funny thing is that if you think about it, Sam's situation with Ruby was no different than Dean's situation with Benny. They were Alone, lost, without their brother and you met some monster who is aparently not that bad, who is holding your back and always by your side helping you, so you trust them. Is the same, excpet for the detail that Ruby ended up actully being Evil, but if she would have been good it would be the same.

Sam was saying "you are right" with Ruby and the Souless thing (I don't get that last one, Sam didn't knew and well, he was Souless). Until Dean said "You let me die for a Girl" Sam punches Him because Dean acted like Sam wasn't lost and sad after Dean died, because I repeat from Sam's perspective Dean was Dead! So what? Sam can't try to move on, on his life? In a real life situation. If some familiar of yours, dies. Yes, at first you are sad, and even depress for a while, but after a time you have to continue your life. There are people who aren't able to deal with a Loved one death ending up in Adictions which of course is not healthy (we can mention the Ruby and Demon Blood thing here). At season 7 finale, Sam was lost, sacred, confuse and he had the plus he was mentally fragile after all the Halucinations. And even if Cas take that part from Sam's mind, the hell memories still there and it wasn't that long since Cas took that away from Sam after more of half a year dealing with it. He apoligiesed for not looking for him, but he doesn't have to apoligise for loving someone and try to move on. He get interested in Amelia because they were similar, they lost someone loved, but they were trying to move on. As I said, the relation wasn't the best. But it was helping both to deal with the death. And even if Sam could think Dean was in purgatory. What could he do? The only Purgatory Door was based on a spell, but it wasn't a spell to only open the door. There wasn't any real Door to purgatory. Eve was the only one capable of open one. And As much as Sam wanted to look for another way, were could he look for it? Bobby's house was burnt with his books and they didn't have the Bunker yet. Supernatural has never been about "who is right" its always about perspective. But the show always show us more Dean's pov more than Sam's so some people don't even try to see from his perspective. Sam is as deep and Interesting as Dean is. People just don't see it. People say how broken Dean is, and yes, he is, but Sam is worst. The diference is Sam is emotionally stronger than Dean. I think is ironic how we talk about Sam being more emotional and emphatic, and Dean being more close and not honest with his feelings. But actully everyone can read Dean easily, and Sam is the one who hides it better.

@@sofialu226 well then probably you were mad when he apologized right?Sam is not as broken as Dean!Dean never was a child!he had to be a mother and father when he wasn't even five!don't ever try to compare that!he was blaming himself even for Sam's death while it wasn't his fault at all!even by all of this he's much more stronger than Sam!when he came back from hell and it was reveled what was it look like not even one person tried to comfort him and Sam mocked him like a jerk!anyone didn't ask if he's alright or not and despite all of this he was able to find himself and again return to the normal Dean without anyone's help!Sam on the other hand everyone were around him and he just became more crazy by time passed and if it wasn't for Cas he was still in the danger of suicide!again with the MOC Dean was the one who needed help mostly but no one helped him and after he dies,returned as a demon and then turned to a human again then suddenly Sam became the brother who wants to help!that's funny actually!don't lecture me about who's perspective because before watching the show I thought Sam was gonna be my favorite but it didn't happen!funny is that it didn't even happen in the pilot!so don't lecture me about it because I've been lecturing myself since the pilot!what he did in this season was full of crap!and his childish jealousy!he didn't have the right to beat Dean for that Amelia!Dean's childhood was ruined for him and he give up anything even a chance to have a normal life when he was 16 only for Sam and what Sam did?leaved the second chance he had and also mocked Dean about being loyal to John! you want a healthy relationship!let me tell you in real world people will not give up or believe until they saw the dead body!in that case they will try to move on and I can example a lot of people who still doesn't move on even by years!but they will never believe just because their loved one disappeared they just dead and it's time to move on!so don't make stupid excuses!and I'm really greatfull to Lucifer for reminding Sam what a fool he was!

@@altinaykor364 Gratefull to Lucifer??? Are you f*cking serious!? I understand if you don't agree with me or you only love Dean. But being gratefull to Lucifer? He is Sam's worst Nightmare. Do I have to remember you Sam spend 180 f*cking years being tortured by Lucifer itself?? If you can't read people is your thing, but Sam is more broken but stronger, pay more atention on how he acts. He carries the weight of his past mistakes until today, he has suffered a lot, screwed up thing a lot, but he has been always ready to do anything to redeen himself, and even with all that he stays stand and keep going. He lives with his mistakes and he was able to understand Jack and wanted him to do matter than he did. And I didn't get angry with Sam for apologising at the end, because I uderstood. The Amelia thing became a guilty pleasure for Sam, he was happy, you can say whatever you want, but he was happy and you can't denied your feeling, as much as you are ashame of it. When Dean came back, Sam discovered were Dean was and there all started, then Dean remarked Sam more and more the Amelia and not looking for him in purgatory thing making that mix feeling worst. Dean pushed Sam to feel guilty, I don't think it was intentionally bad. But Dean didn't care that much how Sam was feeling. Dean never really did. You may be a DeanGirl, but you can't denied that Dean's dedication to family, Sam specifically, is too codepentant at an unhealthy level. I know it's because of John and how he raised Him. Basically, Sam is more capable to live without Dean, than Dean without Sam. Of course I love them Both, and I can defend both of Them I keep strong with my "Is about pespective". I don't say you have to agree, I'm talking about at least understanding.

I've always felt that Sam's thoughts about Benny were valid tbh… Like, because of what happened with Ruby. Dean's arguments about why he trusts Benny are exactly the same as Sam's were for why he trusted Ruby. He's been down that road before and every step of the way Dean was telling him not to trust Ruby, and in the end it turned out he couldn't trust him, why should he believe Benny is any different? It's almost like Sam's not allowed to trust anyone that Dean doesn't trust first, but if Sam doesn't trust someone that Dean does then it's the worst thing ever and he's just wrong. That's something that has always bothered me about Dean, he's allowed to have other friends and trust other people, but the second Sam tries to do the same he's a terrible person. Dean's allowed to be hurt that Sam didn't look for him in Purgatory, but he has to realise that Sam didn't actually know he was in Purgatory and thought he was in Heaven and happy, so as much as it hurt him to do so, he tried to move on. I've never liked the hate Sam gets because of this, I've always thought his choices were valid and not this terrible thing. If he'd known Dean wasn't in Heaven, he never would've stopped looking. But what we have to remember is that he doesn't do well when Dean's dead. Mystery Spot was our first glimpse at it where he became obsessed and was willing to kill an innocent person to get him back, then in S4 with Ruby and the Demon Blood. He doesn't do well without Dean, and this was probably the one time he actually did all right with Dean gone. What I've always thought is that if Sam had looked for Dean, he would've gone off the deep end and done something that Dean wouldn't approve of and Dean would be pissed at him. So no matter what he did, he wouldn't have won because Dean would be angry either way... And with the Coin... Dean literally blamed Sam for not having a soul and for not telling him... That wasn't his fault at all, and he didn't know he didn't have it and even though there were weird things going on with him that he noticed (not sleeping, not feeling, etc...) he *did not care* so why would he tell Dean? That's always bothered me too...

@@Dazzlefae Same here lol and I may be like that to always take Sam's side 1 I meet Jared lol and Sam from 1st Pilot episode been my favorite brother not to say Dean is &€€ sometimes but the ripple effect it has when he goes off like that Im assuming you are all the way up to season 15 than you know what's will happen and Yes same again i know it was the specter/ghost talking but blaming sam for no soul that was cas😂 but anyway yup your not the only one feels like that👍

@@ace360 Yeah, I'm up to date. It's just the way that Dean can sometimes act really abusive towards those around him (S13 I will never forgive him for...) and people love him. I do love Dean, but I also hate him at times because he can be awful. Sam's always been my favourite too, and I recently met Jared as well! And Misha, I got a pic with Misha, just saw Jared and he blew me a kiss... It was awesome! I saw them all on stage though, at a con. One of the best days of my life, honestly...
