Here we are with a vide that should have been out on Friday, it's a holiday special with my brother watching The Exorcist and this was one hell of a video to edit; I'm sorry if it seems weird or awkward with the muting and removing of the video at times; it was the only way to get this up!

@@uggggggghhhhh Don't be silly, Rosemary's Baby was not even a possession movie. And who the hell has seen all those obscure earlier movies you mention to be influenced by it at all ? Most possession movies take their cue from The Exorcist because it was HUGE, it was maybe the biggest modern cultural phenomenon before Star Wards came along, causing mass hysteria, long queues around the blocks and requiring ambulances to be stationed at cinemas as so many people are fainting and mentally wrecked by the movie ... Tell me how many of the earlier possession movies (or later) has this kind of effect and attention ?

@@88feji I'd like to add Jaws. That was the First (Correction: Summer) blockbuster, if I'm not mistaken. But, honestly, the 70s and 80s are known for iconic movies for a reason. Think of the two schools of filmmaking -- New York and Hollywood -- battling it out. Gritty realistic dramas and amazing sci fi, fantasy, comedy, horror, super heroes, and musicals.

With the beginning of the film, Father Merrin uncovers the head of a little figurine of the demon Pazuzu, whom he recognized because he had previously exorcised the demon years ago. So then he has a premonition later that another battle with Pazuzu is coming, with the clock randomly stopping and him almost getting ran over by the carriage. So to confirm his suspicions he goes to some old ruins where there is an old statue of Pazuzu and knows for certain when he sees the dogs fighting each other (the dogs of war have been unleashed). The dissolve to Georgetown right after is to show you where this battle between good and evil is going to take place.

Released almost 50 years ago and it is still slaying audiences. The period from the late 60's to late 70's saw some incredible films, this being among the best. The slow build in any story is to get the audience invested in the characters and care about what happens to them and this movie does that brilliantly. Most younger people that watch this today are laughing and having a good time for the first half and then they find out what film making is about.

In the beginning, nobody pays much attention to what's happening on the screen, they can even make fun of some scenes, but when the end gets closer, the audience's involvement with the movie story is very clear. A little Exorcist trivia. When Linda Blair is flopping around on her bed. That isn't CGI special effects, she was actually being pulled violently by wires. And when that happened it damaged her back for the rest of her life. According to Google: "Yanked violently around in harnesses, both Blair and Burstyn suffered back injuries and their painful screams were included in the film. Burstyn injured her back after landing on her coccyx when a stuntman jerked her around using a special effects cable during the scene when Regan slaps her mother".

This film scared the hell out of audiences. The visuals, the language was really out there for it's time. Aside from selling out theaters, they had to keep smelling salts on hand in case people passed out. People just got up and left out of fear. There are some really cool videos about audience reactions you should check out about it.

I watched this movie when I was 13 yo. You have to remember this film was totally shocking for 1973 audiences. We are so used to horror movies nowadays but this is a psychological movie as much as horror. I'm still traumatised by it. That crucifix scene freaks me out to this day.

You should have seen The Exorcist in a darkened theatre with all the nervous vibe in the room because of all the hype around it when it came out! It had MUCH more of an impact! You have to realize that at this time there had been NO horror movie even close to this. When I went to see this movie we were seven in our group. My brothers, sister, sister-in-law and a close family friend. At one point my eldest brother who was 25 at the time flew out of his aisle seat and landed in the aisle. When he recovered he walked out of the theatre and didn't come back. Us being Catholic we could identify more closely to what was going on in the movie. We understood all the religious things happening. Also, we knew this was based on a true story. For me, well for days afterwards, when ever I closed my eyes I could see Regan's face at its worse. To this day I still feel this is the all time best horror movie. I loved it when you guys said at the beginning "Are you excited?" and "No". I KNEW you would change your mind and you were in for a big surprise! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I was five months old when this movie came out. My father went to see it with friends while my mother stayed home with me, as she was too freaked by the crazy press it was getting. People were puking in the theaters and running out, etc. My father came home, and was telling my mother all about it. It was well after midnight, and as he silently explained the story to my Mom, I slept a few feet away in my crib. As he was whispering about it, a large glass picture frame fell from the wall, smashing to the ground and scaring the crap out of them. They shrieked out, as they were already spooked from the movie. It sent me into a crying fit that lasted a half an hour. So technically, this movie scared me even before I knew what ANYTHING was. And it's been creeping me out ever since.

Quick exolaination of the intro. Merrin (the priest you meet at the beginning) already exercised the demon pazuzu from a kid in africa. Pazuzu isn't taking the loss well so he picks another to possess (reagan) with the intention of drawing merrin into a final confrontation. The dogs fighting represent the fight between pazuzu and merrin, the statue and the status head are both of pazuzu, considering he was a god in mesopotamia

1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱 2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always 🤣 3. The spider-walk down the stairs was NOT in the original release. 4. The loud banging with the medical equipment is for our benefit. 5. Father Merrin and the demon had a previous encounter where he almost killed the father. Merin doesn't acknowledge the receipt of the note and tells Karras there's no need for analysis. 6. Chris MacNeil/Ellen Burstyn actually injured her hip when the demon makes her hard fall. 7. The demon doesn't kill Merrin. From the beginning we know he has a heart problem most likely brought on by the previous encounter. 8. Karras doesn't kill the demon. He does manage to draw it out of her and sacrificed himself for her. 9 Karras is confessing and asking for forgiveness for his loss of faith
