He is one of those "What do you bring to the table types" He is also colorist, he is darker than the both of them and he is trying to reinforce the trope that no men find BW attractive and that only preferences and WW rate. I mean probably in his world. I wouldn't doubt some BW have low self esteem, any women at some stage in her life may be subject to it. They always without asking told people their age. My grandmother, my mother, my aunties always willingly stated their age.
