I use it as a transport (using a 3.5mm->coax) from the JM21 to a multibit DAC then to an amp. Since I don't use the player's DAC or amp, the battery lasts forever. I plant it on a stand I bought and it's pretty terrific.

FYI M300 does have glass back and aluminum sides. Also, latest firmware added track back action on the play/pause by either double press or long press (I do not remember which one). JM21 looked interesting until battery time. The latter is not technically bad. There have been and still are many players, even premium, that have similar battery life. It's a matter of your player use pattern. For some people 8-10 hours works just fine. I listen to audio books on mine besides music, I need battery life. That is why I still keep my trusty old HiBy R5 Gen 2.

Poor battery life? Rather get the Hiby R4 then for $50 extra where you can actually replace it with the backplate that comes off with screws. I have had this player for a couple of weeks. A huge improvement over my Fiio M6 that I have been using up until now. I note your comment about turning the Wi-Fi off improves the battery life. I will try this. Do you find using high, or low gain makes a difference also to battery life? For the money I think this is a great buy. I've treated myself to the snazzy Fiio vegan leather case to go with it too as like you say the silicone case is OK but its a bit too loose. I also think the thin strip over the top of the USB and jack sockets is just asking to snap in the future. Good review though.

LOVE MY M300 and I spent $300 on the EVENGELION R4. Which is BEAUTIFUL, but so chonky. One thing I do not like about the M300 is that most of the stuff that would qualify it as a HIFI player is locked behind their music app. Where the R4 has all of those settings in the drop down, and has a UNIVERSAL EQ where M300 only has a Hybi Music Equalizer. WHICH stinks. Since that's clearly only a SOFTWARE LIMITATION. I don't like when companies artificially gimp their products to strong arm encourage you buy the more expensive one. Also the Special Edition R4 comes with one extra gig of ram and double the internal. Which kind of made it well worth the $50 premium outside of looking beautiful in its purple and green color way.
@SuperReview23 күн бұрын
To be fair, I'm not sure it's just an arbitrary software limitation -- the M300 seems to use pretty standard Android audio architecture, whereas R4 (and Hiby's other players) use more custom setups. Possibly that complicates things.
@AlexBeyer-hq1rx23 күн бұрын
@@SuperReview MAYBE. But internally the only nerfing the M300 has over the R4 is dual DAC chip. Though, realistically, those are 100% software features not hardware CODEC/DRIVER specific features. NOW, the counter argument to that could be, one of "PURITY". Why add features to a lower specced device (only in dedicated dac since again, all the other stats are 100% the same), and tarnish the "quality" the "hiby" name carries?

I saw the price for the fiio jm21 at $149.99 and at $179.99 and now $199.99. I wonder what the official price since it keeps showing up online at 3 different price points for the same device with the same exact specs and features.
@SuperReview22 күн бұрын
Yeah, I asked about MSRP and was initially told $150, then $199 (hence the robot voice chiming in in this video). On Ali, I see it for $230 or $180 🤣

Thinking of switching my Shanling M3 Ultra, which is stuck at android 10, to this device
@SuperReview21 күн бұрын
I personally am not very concerned with the Android version on these players, my main DAP is Android 8.1 and it runs all the apps I use.

Speaking of repeated the Cure on a list - in my experience the "Album Artist" property in metadata can mess up things.
@SuperReview23 күн бұрын
Yeah, that's a good guess -- usually I'm pretty good about making "Artist" and "Album Artist" read the exact same thing because different players use one or the other.

So good. I didn't realize how expensive it got though!

I'm surprised FiiO is still sending stuff your way, even after the FA19 fiasco a few months ago. 😂

They are so close with this one.

6:48 the R4 has this exact same problem only i constantly restart the song instead of turning off the screen. Had it since launch, still happens all the time. Infuriating.

Im an audiophile but I dont understand why people bother with these devices. Its a redundant device. Just buy a small external DAC and use your phone which has better battery, software and mobile streaming.

Buttons. And I prefer iPhone for my phone but it's not good for an offline music library. But mostly it's buttons.

This DAP looked too good to be true until I hear the battery part, really disappointing in my opinion especially with the drain.

I like the Eva version.. but it’s more expensive

Not including global eq from the get go is such a miss
@danilaros22 күн бұрын
Yep. Hiby R4 is better in that regard. The EQ is globally applied.

Battery drain is disappointing since they actually decided to use a more modern SoC that should be more efficient.
@SuperReview23 күн бұрын
Yeah, I really think the SOCs are not the cause of battery drain on these players, the M300 has a smaller battery, with less efficient SOC, and battery life is much better.
@saucyg637123 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, i will be waiting for android 14 devices that way battery life will be increased
@SuperReview23 күн бұрын
I would not bet on Android 14 making an improvement in battery life, I believe Android is not the issue here. The Hiby M300 has a smaller battery, a less efficient processor, and yet double the battery life.
@hpwrotethis23 күн бұрын
Sounds like a lot of problems. M300 better. Maybe I need to buy it again.
@TheFragranceNiche23 күн бұрын
M300 would be perfect if it had balanced. I have many high ohm headphones that do actually benefit from balanced. Not from a sound improvement type of thing, but from just efficiency of power delivery. For iems I think m300 is an absolute beast!
@TomOnEverything23 күн бұрын
I have both. M300 is a toy compared to the JM21.

Also who is that robot updating certain numbers in the video. Are you getting replaced by AI soon,?

the battery? why even sell something like this? epic fail.
@SuperReview22 күн бұрын
TBH the high end of audio players has even worse battery life. Seems like not something customers prioritize.

Your reviews are great, but please be aware the M300 had a firmware update that made all the buttons fully functional, previous track and forward were remedied.
@SuperReview19 күн бұрын
I am aware of the firmware update but I disable that feature because it sometimes misinterprets the input, I'd rather have a dedicated button.

1:57 "thats just an android thing" yea sure, blame the corporate greed of apples choices to try force u to buy more apple products, on android, you can get cool android products with more functionality at half the price of an iphone :/ sry not sry also eu had to force apple to use usb c & thats funny XD
@SuperReview20 күн бұрын
I'm not into platform fanboyism. I'm sure Android has a good reason for choosing MTP as their protocol but they chose something that's not supported by MacOS, while every other USB file transfer device I've tried (SSD, SD cards, etc.) works fine.
@PhonkHub-r3d14 күн бұрын
@@SuperReview ah lol. I personally like android, used to have an ipod touch & loved the thing & used to play WoW on my aunts MAC while i was younger. Thou id gotta admit, mac has a good eco system within apple products but once i made the move to android & windows/linux in highschool i learned what I was missing out on. & i learned about emulators, was able to just rip some nDS games & put it on my phone, at that time i didn't have a DS. Thou ill admit i had less issues with apple & i would have gotten a ipod touch again but i saw the prices of apple. Now im just waiting for my 1st dap HIBY r4 x Evangelion
