Etymotic is a recognized king of neutrality and isolation in earphones, and now the ER2 makes that affordable. But apart from being cheaper, is it possibly BETTER than the ER4? Let's unbox and find out.

How long did it take you to get comfortable with the tri flange tips? Also how do you properly take these off? I heard some people say that you have to break the seal first before removing them so they don't perforate your eardrums or something? I just slowly twist them out till the seal breaks, is that unsafe?

Subjectively, I find the frequency response to be quite flat on these when I sweep using Studio 6 Digital's sine wave generator. Also the bass is not elevated but quite balanced down under 100Hz. They drop a bit too early above 10kHz, but I fix that with EQ.

Then we have this that can go inside to much but goes not cut the sound. The best way for a perfect headphones is to have a triple cone tip,but cut the last 3rd tip and then its perfect.

Bought these recently. Very good sound and comfort. Because I have too much free time I've seen a lot of reviews of this and other Etymotic products, not a single mention of the filters that are required to run these property. They are tiny little things that are in the nozzle and when they clog up the sound goes almost silent. You replace them with a new filter using a special tool. I have unusually clean ears but one of the filters got clogged within two days. A pack of 4 filters costs about $15. Apparently using the earphones without them sounds bad. How was this missed in all the reviews? I read that some people never get them clogged and others clog them up in one day. Removing the filter with the tool also damages them so you can't clean and reuse them.
@SuperReview
@SuperReview 3 жыл бұрын
I've had these for about a year and filters are not clogged. Though I did recently replace the filters -- and am thinking of doing a video about it, but for a different reason. Etymotic sells a "tuning kit" with different filters that have different effects on the sound. I like the brown filters.
@mrfrosty3
@mrfrosty3 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperReview my problem with the filters may have been due to my use of Spinfit cp800 tips. They have a wide bore and a 2nd filter got clogged. I switched back to the triple flange and not had a problem since. Seems there is a reason Etymotic tips have a tiny aperture at the very end. I bought the tuning kit and tried the brown filter, it is pretty great.

@@SuperReview The ER3 line comes with a cable of the same quality as the ER4, despite looking like the ER2 cable. I actually was surprised since I expected the ER2 cable to be the same great quality but had to actually see videos to realise it definitely has much more memory and elasticity than other Etymotic offerings. On another note, do you think you would have preffered getting the ER2SE instead? I'm leaning towards picking one up since I'd expect at the very least you get a much more dynamic driver styled bass thump without much change to the Ety house signature. Also, if you're looking for another TWS to review please give the Lypertek Tevi a look! My only complaint so far is the fit having very little security and a lack of resolution. Otherwise they seem to resemble the Etymotic style sound signature but with a subbass boost. The bass is also great quality and definitely not one dimensional from the tracks I've tested.

Hey mark! Actually, i am looking for a pair of iems for music production, mixing, mastering. i think that the etymotic er2se and er3se can be quite good for that. which one of the two you will recommend? if you dont have er3se then... it is close to er4 as it also has a balanced armature. Quite frankly, it blows away anything else on mobility and actual performance (not some snake oil box costing you 10 times the BOM cost). It does USB but also Bluetooth. In fact, I’ve tried a ton of Bluetooth receivers and this is the only one that sounds acceptable. Still I use it mostly via USB. Then it has balanced output with configurable impedance and level plus a bunch of other calibration settings including EQ fine tuning. For audiophiles actually understanding audio, this is it. Quite frankly, for about US$200 combined, the T4 + ES100 + 16 core balanced cable sound better than what some pay 1000s of US$ for 😊
