Everyone's getting so upset, just enjoy the song! It likely has zero connection with Sonic. But that doesn't mean people can't draw connections to it based upon the lyrics. Chromodar He has to push himself to go faster and further with each new, world-ending threat. He can't allow himself to fail because, if he does, all the good deeds he's done up to that point might as well have never happened in the eyes of the surviving humans. He would receive the blame for the world's misfortune and subsequently be rejected forever by humans as the person who failed to save them. Get it? He enforces the idea in "How does it feel to be outstripped by the pace of cultural change?" The world changes around him, and he needs to "go at supersonic speeds" so he can keep feeling human, stuck in his ways as he is. When he says "My deeds are senseless and rendered meaningless, when measured in that vein", it means that he considers himself as having no choice other than going supersonic, as he'll be left out of society if he does not. Though he does think it's exciting when he tries...

People, like any good song, it's MEANT to be interpreted in different ways by different people.
@kyon586710 жыл бұрын
I disagree. The failure to convey meaning is the very definition of failed art. If your use of language in poetry, rhythms and movements in music, or motif in painting doesn't evoke the emotion or concept you intended, then you failed as an artist. Saying that it has many meanings is the same as saying it has no meaning.
@sonic2kk10 жыл бұрын
Hm, interesting point of view
@NeonLeon78009 жыл бұрын
Kyon I disagree for two reasons. 1- An artist can be intentionally vague in their work for any reason of their choice. For example; there are a ton of stories that have endings which are left to the imagination. Sometimes it's done in order to create discussion among a fan base, or sometimes it's done because the artist thinks it's fun. The audience's reaction can be it's own art. 2- Most people will not see something the exact same way someone else does. Any widely viewed piece of art is going to be interpreted a plethora of different ways, regardless of the artist's intention. That is not a failure.
@Keurgui19 жыл бұрын
I'm fine with any interpretation that doesn't have to do with Hedgehogs moving at sound speed

Tomas Contreras That, or the entire song is about how Sonic's ability to become Super Sonic and his over-reliance on the Chaos Emeralds takes all the thrill out of fighting his enemies. "I could go Super Sonic" and "The problem's chronic" allude to the fact that, even when he's in danger, he can always just transform and curbstomp his opponent. That, and in almost every game, he has to transform to defeat the final boss. I imagine something like that would take a toll on him, making him cynical and apathetic.

Why? The Sonic games are know for their awesome soundtracks of rock, why am I a furry? For liking a video game series?
@SoupTime8169 жыл бұрын
+Gabriel Paulino Now, what you're suggesting, is to take a song about heroin, from a *punk* band. And turn it into the theme for a game series that's been long dead, and has no relation to anything from the band. I can't speak for the members of BR, but typically punk rockers have a very anti-establishment attitude. This is why they started their own record label instead of getting signed to a major label. So, do you really expect them to be okay with having a massive company take their song and use it? Only time I can remember them doing that is for a Need For Speed game, but that song was from an album that didn't sell very well. They could use all the coverage for the album they can get. That's like me saying that everyone should use "Fuck Authority" by Pennywise as the national anthem. It doesn't make sense, and barely any fans of either Pennywise or the government would think that's a good idea. In this case though, all the sonic fans don't seem to mind butchering the actual meaning behind the song, and instead turning it into the theme for a dead game mascot.
@OnePunchYume9 жыл бұрын
Well asking for permission of course but the song sounds really great and since Sonic the hedgehog has a super transformation this song to me fits since it has to do with speed.
@SoupTime8169 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Paulino That's true, but looking deeper into the meaning of the song shows it's more about heroin than high speeds. And sonic is something that a lot of kids are into. Do we really want to introduce young kids to things like Bad Religion? Don't get me wrong, I love the band, and I listen to all of their stuff. But I also enjoy a lot of things that aren't exactly kid friendly. The messages behind BR songs are ones that kids either wouldn't be able to understand and wouldn't like, or they'll repeat all of what BR has to say. We'd be turning them into broken records. The same as kids raised in super christian households who only know how to spit out the same arguments their parents would always make.
