Danie Gerber was a beast! Absolute legend. As a Kiwi I can say that he is better than any AB 13 any day. Imagine him and Nonu and Lomu on the field together! And it was so nice to hear him speaking about his joy in playing for his fans. Not money. God bless you Danie. Wonderful career and wonderful person.

Danie Gerber was the best centre I have seen. Nobody had a side step like him and very few of the current players can match his ability to pass a player with a step like his. As a black South African, watching Gerber, Gysie Pienaar and Gerrie Geldenhuys made rugby interesting for me. These boys, along with the Du Plessis brothers brought much joy to my rugby viewing. Thank you Danie Gerber for the great memories. You will always be a favourite rugby player of mine.

In my opinion I'd rate Danie as the best world centre of all time. I haven't seen another with such natural ability, not to mention a beautiful side step at speed.

I can remember as a Province fan in the late 80's, we had some fantastic centres, but as a kid all I wanted was for Danie to play for my province, and lo and behold it came true! I can still recall it vividly. Sadly it was in the twilight of his glittering career, but he still stood head and shoulders above most other players on the field. What a gent, and what a star. Known the world over, effectively the world was denied the chance to see this man in full flight on a regular basis due to the apartheid years. So good, he made defenders tackle each other! Thank you Danie for your wonderful career and your service to SA rugby.

I remember all the names Danie mentions. I was also at Despatch High and Susanna Fourie. What a trip down memory lane this was!!! Brought tears to my eyes. I remember Danie arriving at a party where our band was playing with Steve Kinghorn..... He was and still is the most complete rugby player I have ever seen.

What a player. Thank you Danie Gerber for the match day excitement. Every team you ever played for you gave the fans some magic. How many defenders thought they had you but was left grabbing at shadows, those 2 guys tacking each other at 11.15 is priceless. Would love to see him in the 2019 WC. Danie is the best Rugby player ever, his loyalty to Despatch, EP and Boks was unmatched. Privilaged to watch him play almost week in week out and was a huge inspiration during the 80s Thanks for the memories and tries, the results didnt matter.

Very few shoe ins spring to mind when I think of the best I ever saw, Joost, Cullen, Jonah, Martin Johnson, Sella, perhaps a handful more. Danie Gerber walks into any team I pick within the first few picks. World class and an eternal talent. Thanks for the memories Danie!!!

After he played for Western Province, he moved to Bellville, he lived near us when I was at school. All the kids use play touchies on the park opposite his house but unfortunately he never joined us. Great player.

I remember as a young kid being so in awe of Danie.He had the hugest gifts is blinding pace,swerviing,stepping etc,but hage passion and desire to train hard to be the best too.Not just there to get to the end of practice. I havent seen a better rugby player play the game.

AB de Villiers was a good Rugby player during school and this guy used to play decent enuf Cricket . Now AB de Villiers is considered 1 of d greatest cricketers of all time and this guy was a prominent Rugby player ( Don't know much about rugby but reading d comments here i guess he must have been a great player).
