Among everything this guy is good at, I think what really sets him apart is his ability to stay right on time during those ripping solos. Many people can't even stay on time with a whole band but he's just by himself. Killer cover as always!

@@garryprendergast6183 Because the same issue we face alone as musicians with tempo is only exacerbated with multiple musicians; each person has to keep tempo with one another, and any variance can sway the flow of the entire song. Watch a live video from like Dave Matthews Band or another good stage presence, and see if the tempo keeps the same bpm throughout or if they pick up or slow down over time.

What’s remarkable here is moving seamlessly from rhythmic parts to open soloing, while dropping in carefully placed muted strums and rhythmic motifs as place markers to help listeners keep track of the beat. I’m not a big fan of the ubiquitous click tracks to which most modern digital recordings are snapped. The tools available for digital music production today are amazing- GarageBand which comes loaded free on your IPhone has capabilities that George Martin and the Beatles could not even have dreamed of when they pioneered music creation in a multi track studio setting, but those click tracks can and often do give music a soulless and mechanical feel. This guy’s performances have what the creators from the pre-digital era that he mines for material also had- a flexible but strong and solid inner sense of time which informs every sound he makes.

For anyone new: Corey is one of the best acoustic guitarists I’ve ever seen. For years he has absolutely shocked me. He is up there with the likes of the best without a doubt, whether it be Tommy Emmanuel or Chet Atkins. He is a phenom and a major talent, and deserves far more recognition than he has.
