Quick story about Supertech synthetic oil. I have a 2013 Ford F150. I'd been using their oil for some time. I also use the higher grade Fram oil filters. Well for some reason at the very center of the filter a hole developed and all the oil eventually leaked out of the engine. My wife was running the truck until she said it was acting up. Upon checking the oil there was none. Somehow no one noticed the oil spots in the road. we were separated at the time. I put a new filter on the truck and refilled it with Supertech synthetic. That was 50000 miles ago. My mechanic told me the synthetic oil saved the engine. Never doubt the quality of Supertech synthetic oils.

Engines can run quite a while with no oil in them. Kia & Hyundai enter the room. Guys that fill their oil filters with oil to avoid that 5 seconds of no oil pressure make me laugh. That engine can go an hour with no pressure without damage. And it'll start "acting up", long before any damage occurs.

Super Tech Full Synthetic, Reg or HM, both solid Full Syn oils. Actually, made by Highline Warren, formerly Warren Distribution (not Warren Oil of Dunn NC). Super Tech FS, Amazon Basics and Kirkland, same oils. VOAs have proven that. When it comes to Super Tech oil filters, I'd pay the extra for the MP series (over basic white) with silicone anti-drainback valve.

Yup ….. definitely spend a few bucks more and get the MP line. Its still is only half the price or less compared to Mobil , Wix , NAPA ,or K&N. And it’s a great filter to boot.

Prefill not having to overfill it absorbs in a couple minutes, will keep the pressure guage from bouncing with what you call vapor lock. The pressure will very quickly go to normal. I never have blown an engine. Even very old used ones.

I agree with you on the 5000 mile oil change interval, and replacing the oil filter. ESPECIALLY on some newer cars the only hold 3 to 4 quarts of oil. I do oil changes and maintenance on several vehicles, so I speak with experience. 5k is about right. Using a top cylinder oil in the fuel also helps with longevity of the engine. For a longer life filter, you have to go with the screen backed cloth. These will handle two 5000 mile oil changes, if you prefer going that way. BTW: the pleats do not wear out, but they do load up with dirt and carbon, causing restriction over time.

It's good, but personally i would use 5w30. That 20 viscosity is just to thin , screw Cafe specs!!!!

Use only what the manufacturer recommends or you going to have problems later
@mvlogs1955
@mvlogs1955 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely but as clb_52 go by accordance with your vehicle specs. On the older Equinox (05 to 09) You can use 5W30 Conventional or Semi-Synthetic Blend. On the newer body styles (10-17) it takes the Full synthetic/Dexos 5W30. But the 19 to 23 years take the thin 0W20 oil. I would not recommend putting something other than what it calls for through the manual as it can damage your engine internally and start messing around with the timing chains especially on GM Vehicles in my experience.

As others have stated, use what’s recommended. You’re not smarter than the engineers that built the engine. Yeah, modern engines suck in a lot of ways, but that doesn’t mean you don’t use what’s recommended. They’re designed to run on thin oils, use thin oil.

After watching many youtube engine take down videos it seems the major problem with todays engines are oil rings getting easaly clogged up if the oil is not kept clean leading to poor lubrication and oil contamination from fuel by passing the pistons. The problem gets worse with Direct Fuel Injection where high preasure presses fuel pass the compression rings. I´v torn down Briggs & Straten to Big Block Chevy´s. I don´t recall the rings haveing so tight dementions. Viscosity still applies to lubrication oils, heat brakes down the oil, that is why we have different viscosity weights. A 0w20 remains stable between -40c to +15c, that is too thin for summer use or in hot climates yet the manufactuers recommend 16 and 20 weight oils. That does not make any sense at all!! If these "Light Weight Oils are so SUPPER GOOD then why are they not used in ALL motor vehicles? Food For Thought.

If you change your oil at 5K miles, the brand of oil doesn’t really matter. Buy the cheapest oil possible and change it every 5K and you’ll be fine. 10K is a terrible idea. Nobody will convince me otherwise.
@mvlogs1955

It really depends on the actual vehicle and what it calls for application wise. Newer vehicles I would not recommend going past 5000 miles for a full synthetic oil change but everybody has their own opinion.

You should talk to some oil company chemists. They have spent decades developing the base oil & additive packages. They have tested countless engines to failure. When they say that oil is good for 10k miles, or 20k miles, they mean it. They guarantee it.

@@donwyoming1936 It’s not about the oil, it’s what gets into the oil, not to mention the filter. Be my guest if you’re cool with 10k oil changes, I’ll stick to cheap insurance. $60 a year isn’t going to break me.

I recently got to chat with some petroleum chemist & chemical engineers. They have spent decades developing the base oils & additive packages. They have spent decades testing the oil in engines for millions of miles. Lab testing. Autopsies on engines. Running engines to failure. When they say their oil is good for 10k miles, or 20k miles, it's better than that. Much better. They all guarantee it is. I follow the manufacturer's recommendation. Several of my car's are good for 10k miles with dino oil. They are running strong, almost 20 years old. Modern oil is impressive.

The engineers do not make the labels on the bottles of oil. The marketing division does the labels. So when the LABEL says 10k or 12K or whatever they put on the label, it is smart to assume this is maximum under very good conditions, and very good driving habits. To be on the safe side, change the oil and filter earlier than maximum. You will also extend the life of the vehicle and keep the resale value high, as long as other maintenance is done.

0W-20. Water. The older 1.4 turbo engines in Chevy Traxx even call for 5W-30. My 2.0 EcoSport calls for 5W-20, but am going to put in 5W-30 anyway. If a tiny 1.4 can run it, so can the 2.0 liter duratec. This water thin oil is purely from CAFE standards, not longevity. Same longevity standards when they tell ya' the transmission fluid is lifetime fluid. BS.
@mvlogs1955

Agreed. But the problem with running 5W20 as a alternative will be hard on your timing chain if you have one in your vehicle. But yes that crap about the Lifetime ATF is bullcrap! Thanks for your input Grass!
