An amazing group, an even more amazing song. I had to pleasure of seeing them often in the 1970s and 1980s. This group was one of the first groups that were fussy about their sound, even their live concerts sounded like this. Prior to them most groups played a loud, highly distorted, ear-bleeding version of their album cuts; these guys concerts sound exactly like their albums.

Same, saw them in 77 by accident. Expecting to see *Ted Nuggent* but this unknown band name on the marque. *Even in the Quietest Moments tour* in Victoria BC Canada. I was *one of only twelve* at this 10k seat arena. Most professional sounding live band with integrity. Performed entire set-list plus encored with unreleased songs from their next album. (Breakfast in America)

You misunderstand what an "overture" is: An Overture is (generally) an introductory segment at the head of a longer piece (including symphonies, sometimes -or operatic works, musical theatre (maybe), even films (sometimes), etc., et al.). The overture quotes the main themes from many or most or, even, all of the forthcoming segments (movements, etc.); so as to familiarize the audience/listeners with the upcoming musical themes, in advance (and perhaps give an overview of the overall "emotional journey" of the enitrety). It's express purpose is: to express & introduced musical themes (generally melodic, but can also be: rhythmic or otherwise, also) which will be expressed/repeated in the upcoming work.

An overture is the first piece of a larger musical composition, such as an opera or a concerto. That's why it contains a bunch of different movements, it's previewing all of the sections to follow in the piece. A good example of this, in a modern production , is The Who's 1969 epic Tommy, their Overture on that containing little snippets of all the songs that will follow in the overall piece (plus a later, kick-ass 'Underture' for good measure!). I don't think Supertramp really leaned into this idea on this song/album , but it's still a fucking masterpiece regardless

They recorded the Album even in the quitest moments on a mountaintop outside of Denver. What they didn't realize was that the thin air in the mountains makes your voice go weird. They invited opera singer friends for the bombastik chorus in fools ouverture and the band wasnt pleased at all with the outcome. Still, i dont know what they mean😅, its just brillant i love Supertramp

With Supertramp you never knew when the song would end. Also, at times, one had to wait for the vocals to chime in. Lasty, many of their songs had a movie like sound to them where a story was being told.

When this album was new, I'd play it alone on my room. Headphones on, the only light in the room was from my stereo. Spliff in hand (back then, it just made you feel calm and mellow), I'd sit in bed and just listen from one end of the album to the other. There's not a bad song on the entire album but, when Fool's Overture came on, it was an experience.

One of their best songs, Roger had several fragments of the song already but it too years to put it all together. I loved to play it on the piano when I was in high school. Even in the Queitest Moments is regarded as their third best albums of their carreer after Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America. Together with Crisis what Crisis these 4 albums are considered the classic high phase of the band.

Ugh. That dragged for me. I never listen to this off of this album; instead I always play it off of the Live in Paris album. The tempo on the Live/Paris album is peppier and the vocal climax is better. (And I don't ever see the video of this song in concert; it''s a clown show at the end for this one song. And mixed differently.) Do the Live ALBUM when you hear it again for yourselves.)

If you aren't playing your own album, on KZbin, I think the Paris version on the channel Supertramp Official has better sound quality than the older one with more clicks on it. I don't know if people have noticed that the newer post is up. Seems to be better sound quality to my ears.
