Gotta love supper trees, they work so well for almost any scale! I just wish they were easier to get in Australia! Unfortunately in Australia it's illegal to grow these because the government is worried that it will grow out of control. However, it's apparently OK for decorative purposes, so some hobby shops will stock it 😄 albeit quite expensive because they have to import them from overseas. Great video Ron, it's cool seeing how others do trees and get different results. These look great 👍

Hey, Luke. Great to hear from you. Super trees are great for their fine branches, but they are expensive even here in the US. I also like to use varieties of North American Sage. What kinds of Sage Brush or similar plants are native to Australia that make good model trees?

Have you tried designing them in blender and 3d printing them? Blender appears to have a nice plugin for rendering natural looking trees. I haven't had time to take a serious look at it though. But Kathy Millat inspired me with her 3d printed tree stump in one of her videos.

@@fladder1 I was just playing with a Sapling generator in Blender last night. (I'm new to Blender, so I can't give much advice.) I was thinking of printing the main trunk with holes for mounting seafoam for the smaller branches. I think printing the entire tree with branches as fine as seafoam would be challenging. Also, I can print a lot more trunk armatures at one time than whole trees. Gluing on seafoam pieces to a trunk with existing holes should go quickly.

Those are very nice trees, definitely a great addition. I was actually intrigued by the fact that you were able to find a news paper to use to this project.

I was watching a presentation by Rich Ramirez where he blended different colors of static grass to color match his photo backdrops and the results were amazing. The foreground and background transition was almost invisible. I wonder if the same could be done with ground foam to match the tree colors. I suspect no with coarse foam, but maybe with fine ground foam.

Hi Ron, thanks for showing how you do trees . I’m getting ready to start doing scenery so these will be a big help.I’ve been watching your videos for a little more a year very helpful. I watch a lot of your older videos. Keep them coming. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day.

Very realistic looking! Can't wait to give them a try. You're always asking for video ideas, so, here ya' go: How about a video outlining the various types of benchwork (L-Girder, Open, Shelf Brackets, etc.) and their pros & cons, as well as how they would best be utilized in different spaces (garage, basement, small room, large room, etc.) If you've already done one, my apologies - I'm not sure what to search for and have not been able to find it yet!

I have done a few videos demonstrating different types of bench work, but have not done a comprehensive bench work video. I did do a comprehensive bench work video course for Model Railroad Academy. Good thought. 👍🏼

Two tips, especially for HO scale: Resist the urge to put a lot of foam on them, it makes them just clumpy - less is more. And, if you want trunks to be a little thicker, use a mix of Modge Podge and fine dirt and coat the trunk - it will fatten them up nicely!

Hey Ron. I have just began my first n scale r.r.. I may not be doing things right by USEING wire, paper machete,and clay to sculpt my mountains. I live here in Arizona where I have all the sage brush I can use. I am modeling a mesa topped mountain that a tunnel goes under and a waterfall over the other end.

How fragile is this material?
@RonsTrainsNThings
@RonsTrainsNThings Жыл бұрын
The smaller, finer pieces are pretty fragile, but soaking in the glue helps,.or you can soak them for a few minutes in boiling glycerin to strengthen them more.
