In this video I will show you how to compose a realistic model railroad scene. Scenery is the stage on which your model trains come to life. The more realistic model railroad scenery you build, the better your trains will look running on it. Find inspiration to build a realistic model railroad scene.

I cover the plaster cloth with a “sand” finish drywall compound mixed to a thick paint consistency. It spreads easily and gives a gritty finish which works well with paint and scenery materials. It gives more working time than plaster. I’m still working on the bag I bought 25 years ago.😊

You know what would look great… a Snow shed in the mountain scene you have in the intro even though it’s based in the south lol

What a Great recreation of this old racers eye, unfortunately he'll never see it however his family will. It's coming along & can't wait to see it after you've finished your Magic.

While I don't have the room for an operating layout, I do have a small 4x4 roundhouse diorama that I built. It's just a turntable with a bunch of tracks to display my engines. One day, I'll get around to putting some scenery on it.

Looking great Ron! Doing landscaping on models is my favorite part of the process and I thank you for your technique in covering those pesky plaster cloth holes, sure beats my thin coat of watered down spackle. Thanks much, Ron

Ron, Once again an informative video to which I learn more. What happened to ground goop? I like that stuff and use it a lot. Yet I like the plaster cloth technic also. Again always learn from you. Thanks,

Great vid Ron, Looking awesome, such a winding road on an angle is a magnificent addition and definitely enhance the perspective towards, or even into the backdrop. Just curious, no more colored goop? Cheerio

10:00 Don’t use a razor saw on a plaster casting!! Plaster is extremely abrasive and will quickly dull and destroy your razor saw. I found out the hard way. ZONA razor saw’s customer support explained this to me.
