Nice video shot of you passing your buddy, never get to see that. With this new blend of diesel, any temps below 20* ABOVE zero I double dose my additive. Also, put in #1 fuel or kerosene for the colder temps. Good to see other drivers still using their CB to check on a fellow driver these days. Stay warm up here with us northern folks.

Dan, there’s a guy on KZbin called “Project Farm” who did a pretty comprehensive test recently on diesel anti-gel products. I believe one of the better products he tested was from “Hot Shot Secret”, another was from “Peak”. Lucas finished last in his tests. Just my $.02, Dan. I ran Hot Shot Secret in my diesel tractors and I had no issues, down to -10F. Stay safe, pats for Bailey.

Been there done that, Dan. In Jugoslavia I had to light a fire beside the fuel tank, and having run out of spare filters had to heat them up too, to melt the wax back out of them. Eventually wrapped the tank with cardboard and paper so the combination of that and the warm fuel returning I got up into Germany, and eventually back home to the UK

Hi Dan, diesel is made to different formulas depending on where you are and what time of the year it is. Diesel made for summertime and for use in the warmer states will be made to a formula that jells/ freezes at a higher temperature than diesel made for use in the cold. You were buying your diesel in the south where it is warm and then driving north into the cold. The diesel you bought was not made to be used in the cold.

Hey Dan !!! Most T/S only treat their tanks below 28^ !! You either got bad fuel loaded with water or you need to put a fuel heater in the line from the tanks to the filters as that is what the ""NORTHERN "" trucks have on them !! Years ago as you know, most tanks had a sump on the bottom so you could drain the water waste out !! Today , they consider that a waste of $$$$$ !!! Have a good week ,if you can & hope the tanks will be OK !!!

Stop fueling if the diesel looks yellow, brown, or black... it's better to just go to next truck stop to fill tanks with clean diesel. I went through 3 fuel/water separators last month due to bad diesel. Louisiana seems to have the clearest good stuff. Joplin and Armadillo = Trash Fuel ⛽️

Your filter problems was caused by biodiesel separating from your regular diesel while you were parked at home. Then you came north, the biodiesel is heavier than regular diesel has settled in the bottom of the tanks and at these temperatures it's starting to solidify. If you could look inside the tanks it would look like sand in bottom. The only cure for this problem is heat about 100 degrees to reliquidify the biodiesel. Fuel additives won't touch it. You'll eventually get it under control. Keep your tanks topped off, regular fill ups will help stir the fuel up to prevent separation. Welcome to the biodiesel plugged filter club.

Do they make fuel filter heaters or fuel heater system? Sounds like poor fuel or different cold grade like the number 1 type I used to see in the Pennsylvania mountains in the winter time back in the 1980's. From my limited point of experience living in Florida. Only spent 3 years in western NY working and college back in the 1990's and its cold winters. You all take care out there the cold is nothing to mess with and the conditions that come with it.

Ya you can get fuel warmers that reach down into the fuel tank like a block heater. They use antifreeze from the engine running though the tube to put some heat into the fuel. They're old fashioned but they work ok.

Dan Dan the professional step deck man. Ya got to love when your adding fuel conditioner and new fuel and it’s still gelling up. Maybe you got some water in the tanks in Texas. Or your conditioner is not up to snuff. Could have been a little bit of both. I know when I run the ice roads way up in northern Quebec we had to buy our conditioner up there because the usual stuff couldn’t handle the really cold temperatures. Daniel your Pete and the Dorsey look so good. Well hopefully better trouble free miles ahead. Thanks for posting. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you, D…

Hi Dan Blessings from England , I has to smile about your filters freezing up I had the same problems back in 1982 . I ran a 14ltr Cummins and I knew other owner drivers who had the same problems , like you they had the additive and extra filters too ! . but me no sir I aint having some one im relying on as to whether i work or not no no . the Cummins has a water rail with a small hose at the back that hose then goes round to the DCA filter . I took the hose and fittings off , I then got bigger fittings that takes a 3/4" hose and a length of hose and new clips . I ran the hose round the back of the engine and on to the fuel line out to the tank and U turn back up to the DCA filter . the 2 fuel lines and 2 water lines i wrapped with insulation tape so they are a block of 4 pipes now and hot water heats the fuel coming from the tank and hotter going back to the tank . once you can do that first 1/4 of a mile in the morning nothing will stop that truck no matter how cold it gets ... Also make a boot out of carpet wrap it around your filter twice hold it with a little duck tape then a little for the bottom and more tape . i used a heavy duty plastic bag to slide over and a big hose clip for the top . I ran this system till 2010 when i gave up as a owner driver . some years later i welded shit trap tanks 8x6" at the bottom of my diesel tanks , a self cleaning system that works with any movement . in the early 90s my air dryer packed in the heating element fell out so as it had a brother on the chassis he was a bypass filter so i connected the two up and had a oil heated air dryer ... Praise the Lord ... keep warm n safe Dan ...
