@@johnbyrne3831 Schoolboy stuff .. :) 1/2MV2 ... Increase your speed from 1knot to 2 knots means you hit the dock with four times the force. Tristan's best remarks were his explanation on why to leave the fenders out until outside and clear. Plan every action well ahead of time. Brief your crew. Drive the boat and make it do what you want it to do. Reacting to events means something is not going well and you are not quite in control.

Dear Tristan enjoyed watching your video. As being for long time Master of mega container ship I appreciate your smooth and professional maneuvre and procedures including those related to fenders. No matter the size, good seamanship is same for your beautiful little lady and for 220 k tons vessel. Wishing you always good luck & 7 feet!

I am a full time cruiser in a 34ft sailboat. Sometimes I have to dock or depart on my own (solo) but thankfully rarely in harbors this busy. Having bow thrusters and a crew is such a different world! My respect.

It's a huge job in the 30-40ft bracket where you're expected to do it all! Even more so in later boats with no joystick or skyhook and coming into a marina with some wind, needs nerves of steel

Fantastic location, professional work in every way. It's kind of amazing how tight these ports are. It's hard to imagine a wealthy owner being happy with a yacht 2 feet away on each side. Especially if he has 1ft itis. Another take on "slow is pro" is "reverse is your friend". Great video. A captain should always be willing to learn new tricks.

Anchor calculation works the same way in small boats too, generally release the chain 3 or 4 times the depth so the anchoring is more secure. Great video, very nice to watch 😊 Also good news that no one anchored on top of your anchor 😁😁

Very cool to watch a pro do something like that. It's a very similar procedure to getting my 20 ft starcraft out of our marina. Well, except for the crew, harbor master escort, windlass, bow thrusters, and the captian never reached overboard to push himself off. Other than that, same same!

6:45 More chain also helps with the scope of the anchor chain which results in the anchor dragging less because it isn’t being pulled “up” as much as compared to an anchor that has less chain out.

I'm new to boating and learned a lot from your departure video. Though my vessel is only 23 ft, my anxieties, procedures and frustrations are very similar whenever I pull out of our slip. Going slow, learning what how your boat handles, dealing with wind and other rude or straight up dangerous boaters are all things that come to mind. Nice to see that even experienced captains on a super yacht worry a little too. Thanks for posting.
