I had always been a supporter of the democratic party of Korea as a Korean. However, during the last presidency, aside from the fact that the last president's socialist policies crumbled our economy, the fact that the former president forcibly repatriated North Korean defactors back to North Korea, really puzzled me. They always portrayed themselves as human rights activists who were sympathetic towards people under oppression. But it turned out that the democratic party had arrested and banned North Korean activist groups because Kim Jung Un was opposed to it. The current leader of opposition party is indicted for illegally sending $80 million cash to North Korea. He openly condemned Korea's trilateral alliance with Japan and the US. He also described the US troops in Korea as "occupying forces," just like how China describes the US force in Korea and Japan. There are members in the opposition party who has a criminal record for bombing the US embassy. There are members in the opposition party who were charged with treason for meeting up and taking orders from North Korean officials. The last president of Korea openly supported Korea to he a part of China's Belt and Road initiative. The opposition party voted against espionage bill, so that Korea can not persecute CCP spies inside of Korea. After that, I realized that South Korea, just like Hong Kong and Taiwan are under great threat of communist China. As a democracy loving individual, I understand why the president Yoon did what he did. The opposition party impeached a total of 29 key officials in the last two years. They cut down military defense budget by billions. No one in right mind would do what they did, if it weren't to give away Korea to China and North Korea. Now, I support the conservative party of Korea, because I love democracy.

I agree. I think that the democratic system in Korea is on the verge of collapse. The corrupted National Election Commission (NEC) whose head was appointed by former pro-North Korean president Moon jae-in, allegedly committed fraud in the 2020 and 2024 general elections. Even though many experts raised this issue, the NEC refused to investigate, the judiciary refused to grant a search warrant, and the media tried to cover it up. Those who entered the National Assembly through fraud are now trying to pass a law that punishes those who claim election fraud. The president could have finished his term without doing anything. But as he stated in his speech to people, he couldn’t ignore the information from the National Intelligence Service and decided to risk his position to make this issue public.

Ok, you know nothing about Korea. The first thing to know is that the Korea peninsula is split in half after WWII, North Korea backed by China and Soviet, and South Korea, backed by the US and UN. The Korean War broke out in the early 1950s, and they signed ceasefire but never signed the treaty, so therefore, they still at war even to this today. So, if the fight breaks out again, China and the United States will be involved again. So, that is why it is a delicate situation they are in.

I’m American but since martial law was declared a few weeks back, I have been observing South Korean news. It’s very frustrating that with access to so much information, sometimes we don’t get a clear answer at all. When martial law was declared there was not much elaboration as to why it was declared only that it had happened and there was panic ensuing. Now that I’ve been reading more of what actual Koreans have to say about it, the situation is very dire and seems somewhat similar to the challenge we are facing here in the US. With Bidens administration working for everyone BUT the American people. If president yoon is trying to save democracy, what happens if he gets arrested ? Has the other side won? I hope young and old citizens make their voices heard with protests, spreading detailed information amongst each other, and so on. There is true power in numbers! God bless this world, fighting!

It is clear that Yoon violated the Korean Constitution. Below are a few examples of Yoon's violations of the Constitution. The Constitution of the Republic of Korea Article 77. ***There was neither a military emergency nor an equivalent situation. Legislative activities do not serve as the basis for the declaration of martial law. 1. The President may declare martial law in accordance with the provisions of the law when it is necessary to respond with military force to military needs or to maintain public safety and order during a war, an armed conflict, or a national emergency equivalent thereto.  ***The Constitution allows only the government and courts to be controlled under martial law, not the National Assembly or the National Election Commission. Korea has a history in which the National Assembly remained intact, even during the Korean War. 3.When a state of emergency martial law is declared, special measures may be taken, as prescribed by law, regarding the warrant system, freedom of speech, press, assembly, and association, as well as the powers of the government and the courts.”   ***Yoon failed to report the declaration of martial law to the National Assembly. 4.When martial law is declared, the President must immediately report it to the National Assembly.  ***Yoon attempted to shut down the National Assembly by sending troops to the building and blocking lawmakers from entering in order to prevent the lifting of martial law. He also deployed troops to the National Election Commission building to seize servers. These actions violate Article 87 of the Criminal Law. 5.When the National Assembly demands the lifting of martial law with the consent of a majority of its members, the President must lift it. ***Absence of Cabinet meeting records. The Prime Minister stated that there was no meeting regarding martial law and no rewritten document. Article 82. The President shall conduct acts of state in writing, and such documents shall be countersigned by the Prime Minister and the relevant ministers. This also applies to matters related to the military.
