I think crispin does things that intimidate people in the industry. Where many actors are afraid of doing like speaking out their opinions on such situations when it comes to production and the writing... because that means risking their careers, but he does it so ballsy that it’s actually respected in such a way. And THIS is what separates him from all other actors/artists. I mean look at the impact hes made on the film industry.

I’m usually not a fan of actors or Hollywood but Crispin is cut from a different cloth and seems like a genuinely good person with a strong moral compass. I hope he gets the opportunity to do more interesting characters. He’s an underrated actor.

I met Crispin Glover once, working at an L.A. electronics store in the late '80s. He walked in and was looking for an electronic organizer (PDA, Personal Digital Assistant). He opened his wallet, which was overflowing with little pieces of paper covered in letters and numbers. "I need to get organized!" he said, passionately. Sadly, he didn't like anything we had. That store had a lot celebrity customers. I also met Patrick Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, and Tony Perkins.

I personally got to work with Crispin on the set of "Aimy in a Cage". We met the day before shooting with the film's star, Allisyn Ashley Arm, and we had a good talk about acting and improv. Even though the script was written, his scenes were mainly improvised. I'll tell you what, though, if there's anyone I'd trust with improv, it would be him. He also ended up changing his character design into a fur-wearing pimp with platform shoes with fish in them. It's a crazy fun story.

I think he's just eccentric and that's it. I wonder if you can hide a lack of acting skill with eccentric and constantly over-the-top acting. Not only are people saying he's difficult to work with, I also see signs of narcissistic personality disorder.

@SheepdogColumbus
@SheepdogColumbus 2 жыл бұрын
@@nightmareTomek No, NO you can't hide bad acting with eccentricity and even the idea is laughable. If you've acted at all, or are even a fan of actual acting talent, you would see that he does very normal, very amazing things, as he acts. Acting, is like the audio image of the wave of a song and eccentric technique is the crescendo. Everything else in between these peaks is pretty normal and is usually filled with honest movements and other personal thing the actor actually does in his real, day to day, existence. This is why so many good actors seem to be the same person, in every role. Tom Cruze, Brad Pitt, Jon Bernthal, a million others... So with all of this said, what this means is that Glover is actually an extremely eccentric person. So look at his case, with everything stated, in reverse. HIS crescendos, instead of the eccentric peaks, are the lows. Kind of like Nick Cage, William Dafoe, Jouqine Phoenix... The reason they are so amazing, is their ability to be their eccentric selves in a role, but the add in all of the normalcy and other things, in the middle. That is arguably a far, far higher skill level of acting to have the ability to control all of those things that actually make a "wacky" person, normal and appropriate, for the role. With this perspective, go back and watch him in back to the future and rivers edge, or whatever else you may be interested in seeing him in. You will see his characters in a new light because you now understand the truth behind eccentric people and their ability to act, while eccentrically, normal, in necessary moments. If you hadn't picked it up by now, I'm not saying all of this because I'm smart, or even observant, but because I am an eccentric person and yes I am, or rather was an actor and I was good. I was praised and thrown roles because I came off as a weird person, some even said or say creepy, odd, or as my mother says "an acquired taste", but my ability to bring it down and give normalcy to a character, always shocks the hell out of writers/producers/directors. I am not known, and health issues have kept me from chasing the success I would have liked, but I thought I would just give you my two sense on the matter, and hopefully help you understand people like us. Have a great rest of the year.
@nightmareTomek
@nightmareTomek 2 жыл бұрын
@@SheepdogColumbus Ye, now that you told me what the truth is, I finally feel SO enlightened! Wow! When I watch Back to the Future next time, for the 41th time, I will immediately turn around my opinion by 180° which I never could have done without your wise wisdom. Have a great rest of the year, too, nice person. You're quite condescending. And I think you're telling yourself fairytales. I haven't seen much of Glover, but he doesn't look to me like he has the ability to turn it down at will. Since I know a few things about psychology and I'm able to predict things that ordinary people rate as unpredictable, I don't think I'm "simply wrong" because someone who wants to believe in a certain truth tells me so. People like him are usually out of touch with what's "normal" due to being 24/7 eccentric, and sometimes not even paying attention to what's normal because they deem it as unworthy (like the way Glover told in an interview that the replacement actor in Back to the Future 2 did such a bad job). Glover behaves eccentrically quite a lot, not just on film, he also lets his lack of empathy shine through, and in interviews his responses are quite frankly a mess of words. People with narcissistic personality disorders also have zero empathy, yet due to their charisma and masterfully crafted lies they are able to fool people into thinking the narcissist is a good person, to love the narcissist and to defend him against others. It's not that hard to fool people. Also filmmakers and their audiences are drunk on eccentric behavior, which is understandable because in many stories weird roles are fantastic, but this gives people like Glover a free pass, especially when the audience has no idea about how easy or difficult Glover was to work with (and most people said he's very difficult). So calling being constantly eccentric a higher skill level of acting is like... calling your oven a hotter form of the sun, because you never been on the sun and thus the oven feels hotter to you. Nicolas Cage doesn't look eccentric to me, and William Dafoe doesn't show signs of narcissistic personality disorder as well as having an entirely different kind of eccentricity. These cases aren't as easily comparable to Glover. About Joaquin Phoenix I just don't know enough.

I have a question for Crispin: When giving your characters a quirk or mannerism to make them more unique, what's your process for choosing it? Do you get psychological and try to figure out how they would act or just go with your gut feeling and develop it from there? Or is your process something entirely different?

Agree- Crispin is one of the few I'll watch just for Crispin. One of the most underrated and underused actors. Or maybe not. In any case, sometimes the movies are just so bad, it's tough to watch them. I wish he'd challenge himself to do "normal" films and test his range. I agree, he's one of the best along with Daniel Day Lewis, exactly. Just an incredible actor. Extremely intelligent and courageous. He is extremely principled which is very very rare. I hope G-d blesses him with roles and wealth because the good guys like him should win. I do think he deserved what he asked for monetarily in Back to the Future II but they were too stupid to see this. And I'm sure he didn't ask for Michael J. Fox money but maybe close to it. Why not? He made that move with Fox. It's what put him on the map. I blame the directors and producers for that more than Crispin. He was obviously a lot smarter than all of them, which is pretty impressive.

I was fortunate to meet him at a show, and watch him interact with his fans. The amount of energy he gives to everyone is astounding, you've been so lucky to have his attention as well! I recently talked to his father Bruce on the phone for over an hour, and we exchanged info to keep in contact. It seems that generosity and kindness is hereditary. I can't wait until you have him on your show and look forward to the questions you will have for him. Especially now with American Gods, which is one of his best roles in my humble opinion. I hope he genuinely enjoys being Mr. World and it's more than a vehicle for his creative endeavors. As usual, he encapsulates the role so well, you wouldn't know either way. Thank you so much for your show and updating it with exciting news!

I hope we can have more of these little follow ups! Super cool that Crispin is coming on at some point in the future. One of the things I've always been curious about is Crispin's voice acting career, while he has a couple of credits to his name, most notably his role in 9, was it ever something he was interested in doing more of or continuing?

Questions for Crispin? Hm. Okay, I got one: For a role that you've figured out certain key mannerisms for - Do you literally go through the motions in your head for the mannerisms? As in, during a scene, you would think "Okay, now is about a good time to do the Head-Scratching-Thing, it should fit what's happening on screen." Or is it more of a spontaneous thing that you almost experiment with. For example: Maybe such a 'mannerism' doesn't happen in the same place during the alternate takes. Or even a different mannerism. The word "mannerism" looks weird to me, now.

I think Crispin gave himself away on Letterman. "What did you get out of it?". It's fine that he doesn't want to bring it up; to do so spoils what he did, _whatever that was about_ because it's about the viewer's take on it. If I had one question for him, it would be this: How much does he lose himself in a role, usually? It probably varies, but in general? I'm not much of an actor; I've been on set once as an extra and I was so blown away by one of the "real actors'" dismissive wave of a hand and delivery of 'Excuse me' that I gave up any thought of acting I might have secretly had, but silly as it might sound to an outsider, I'm a DM, my friends and I play D&D, and I once got so _deeply_ into character that as one of my players was taunting him I felt myself getting actually pissed off as that character, not as myself. I've been fascinated by that experience for years now. Seeing Crispin's test footage as George McFly made me curious about it. I'm less than a novice and I just don't understand it, and I don't think there's anyone better suited to answer than Crispin Glover.

These videos are all so great. I'm enjoying watching them all again as you re-release them (and this one came out on my birthday - what a gift!). And it's wonderful to hear that Crispin Glover reached out to you! I will look forward to an interview for sure, and I'd like to add a question to the list. I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan and have been watching American Gods, and when I saw him as Mr. World I immediately realized no one else could possibly have played him. I'd like to know how much of that character was written in the script, and how much of it was created by Crispin. I'd also love to know if he has read the book and had an idea of the character before playing him, or whether he was coming in blind and creating something from scratch. Thanks so much! Keep up the amazing work!

Back to the Future would never have been the hit it was without Crispin Glover. And the sequels would have been better.

How am I only finding this channel now KZbin?! Great video! I don't know if you had to remove anything about his role in Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man, but that was when I went from "Oh he's that oddball, to 'Wow he can make a scene.'" Anyone who hasn't seen it, it's short and it's on KZbin, he is amazing. Well, now I got to see some of these films now.

The movie he acted in River's Edge is great! The town I live in is where the setting is. I'm not sure of the demographics back then but it looks nothing like the town of Milpitas.

I just noticed you came back and I have to say that I'm glad because I love your point of view on those actors that make movies memorable. I’m very excited about the prospect of you having Mr. Glover for an interview. He is so fascinating as an actor and as a person. My favorite characters of him have been Willard, Montag the Magnificent from Wizard of Gore and Dr. Abuse from Influence. My questions for him will be: What does he think about today’s 1984 type of restriction of speech, something he already spoke about in his What is it? Essay and what he thinks about people trying to use the same essay to incriminate Steven Spielberg in wrong doings. In a lighter mode, could he convince Rubin Farr to make another appearance in another tv show? Even if is only to show off that at his 55 years he still can rock those pants and shoes. That would be awesome. Just waiting for that book to be finish. I bet it would be interesting, strange and mind blowing.

Great content! Could you do a video on what happened with IMDB? Sold but how and what was the result of the deal for you and the channel. Fall apart, or was it successful?

Excellent video! To be 21 and sound off like he did is very impressive to me. I'm all about the love ending rather than monetary. Crispin is an amazing actor and a beautiful human. ❤️

Wow! Fantastic episode! My questions for Crispin would be this: Is there any director he would like to work with? Would he like to play a "real life character" in a movie one day? What kinds of horror movies does he like to watch?
