honestly the plot of Aporia is kinda similar to Steins;Gate regarding they dont travel to the past, but they use a machine that can send SMS to the past, which results in the events of the present being altered, and sending more SMS to the past to correct the new timeline altering more events and so on.

LOL There are quite far from being "indie" scifi. They have quite big budgets lol. Maybe try something like "Ink", or "Memento" as indie stuff....

6:28 yeah, he was in ‘Jingle all the way’, and was seen to be perfectly suitable to sell toys as that film proved. Not the right choice for this film based on the depth required, but not his fault at all… I blame George Lucas. Ps- I wrote this comment at this point in this video without even watching the rest!

I know that foreigners won'y understand the nuances but newton is a bit of a propaganda film. Firstly, the CRPF forces members would never behave in an uncouth manner as shown in the film. And secondly, maoists are genuinely a huge terrifying network of insurgents spanning across half of india. Maoists have murdered countless innocent people and also army members. They were shown as just being a fear mongering propaganda created by the indian govt, but they are actually dangerous and not to be messed with.

Interesting. I knew with some of these I was probably missing some nuances.

You need to watch Malayalam movies. They make the best movies in India. Nothing over the top, just pure kino. 2024 has been especially good for Malayalam cinema to the extent that a Malayalam movie is one of the frontrunners for the Oscars this year - All We Imagine As Light. Since it's only the 4th largest film industry in India, it does not get much pan-India attention but quality wise Malayalam film industry is the best in the country.
@TheBackFocus13 сағат бұрын
Learned something new. Thanks, I’ll check out some Malayalam films!
One correction: Masaan didn't lead to a resurgence of grounded movies in India. Movies like Masaan have existed in India for decades, going back to the 50s, most of them with a larger impact than Masaan. If anything, Masaan, Lootera, Titli came at the tail end of the last such wave in Hindi cinema.

Guerilla rebels. Not terrorists. Educate yourself. Seems you learned nothing from the film.
@TheBackFocus16 сағат бұрын
From Merriam Webster: Terrorist The unlawful use or threat of violence especially against the state or the public as a politically motivated means of attack or coercion. I understand they’re guerilla rebels, but the definition of “terrorist” also seems to fit.

8:45 Paul Williams also wrote the songs for my favourite musical film, Bugsy Malone (1976). It's generally a more well known and popular film in the UK, but I have come across a number of Americans online who are familiar with it. It's an absolutely fantastic movie btw! Would highly recommend if you haven't seen it.

If you like Newton, I'd recommend Article 15, another socio-political drama starring another Indian indie darling Ayushmann Khurana. It hits the same beats of an ignorant government officer oblivious to real life situation but honestly does their best to make a change, despite the viewers knowing its a moot point considering India's situation.
@Blazee289711 сағат бұрын
These are just propaganda films.
@solanumtuberosa10 сағат бұрын
@Blazee2897 your point being? Of course its propaganda, like all the best kind of films are. Its trying to promote a message! Maybe you just like mindless action movies, and thats ok.
@Blazee289710 сағат бұрын
@@solanumtuberosa Its false propaganda. Article 15 is based on a true story buy they completely changed the castes. Newton shows maoists as being innocent tribals which they are not.
@TheBackFocus8 сағат бұрын
So the villagers portrayed in Newton are Maoists, or are you referring to the insurgents?
@Blazee28977 сағат бұрын
@TheBackFocus No, the insurgents are maoists. The villagers are just innocent people. But they tried to whitewash the insurgents by almost claiming that they don't exist.

Honestly I cannot stand musicals of any sort so Indian movies are pretty much out for me.
@shushunk0021 сағат бұрын
They aren't musicals ,it's just used as an analogy for the avg westerners (so they can make some sense of the popular movies in the box office of India) Also most of those "musicals" are made for theatres with mass viewing.

A few years back (okay maybe the 00s) there was a blockbuster Indian movie making the rounds called Enthiran, it was a dark sci-fi with a lot of visual effects, and it was the most expensive Indian movie at the time.

I used to put on a lot of Bollywood stuff when I couldn't sleep back in the day, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you what any of those films were called. There's been a lot of great stuff coming out of India for ages though, & it's honestly hard to go wrong with anything that's achieved an international release. My recommendation, certainly if you enjoyed RRR, is the Dhoom trilogy (but especially the first two; the pacing is a little weird on the third). They're not quite as over the top & they're heist films at heart, but they're just joyfully silly in a similar way to The Fast & The Furious if that took itself a lot less seriously. I'm not sure they'd hold up to detailed analysis, but for something to feed your eyes & your adrenal glands, they'll do a very good job.

Adding everything here to my list (been meaning to watch Tumbbad)! A few Tamil movies I'd recommend: 1. Super Deluxe: An anthology film spanning multiple storylines (and genres!) that eventually converge. 2. Kaithi A convict who was just freed and on his way to see his family gets embroiled in a job to help the police. 3. Otha Seruppu A chamber piece, where a murder suspect explains his methods to the police. 4. Maharaja The less said about this one the better (don't want to risk spoiling any twists) - a barber seeks vengeance after his home is burglarized, telling the police his "lakshmi", a garbage can, has been taken. I'm Tamil myself, but grew up on Hollywood films, and only just started reconnecting with my Tamil roots through cinema. =)
