I was lucky enough to meet Geoffrey back in the 1980s . He was not only a great performer and dancer but a genuinely lovely man too. He was great in Live and Let Die and many people are unaware that he did all the choreography for the film as well as play the role of Baron Samedi.

I think he stole every scene in which he appeared in that movie. I especially like his low, menacing laugh.

That section at 1:29 - "they were called "soucouyants", "la diablesse", and "douens" as the spirits of unbaptised babies." Those are some of our (Trinidadian) folklore spirits. Anyhow, I love your work and this series. Instantly recognized the name when I saw the episode pop up.

I was very young when Live And Let Die came out and the voodoo imagery frightened me. Geoffrey Holder was at once mesmerizing and terrifying in what little I saw of the film. I came back to it later, having grown to reach the same physical height as him, and discovered an amazingly talented and lovely man. He is deeply missed.

Thank you for this wonderful documentation of a very special life. My first introduction to Geoffrey Holder was in Live and Let Die. He was absolutely mysterious and intriguing. He had this larger than life persona, such as I had never experienced. Everything about him was riveting. He was more than memorable- he inspired me more than I knew at the time. I was 21 years old in '73. We didn't have computers or ways to find out more about people then, and I wanted to know more. I was "delighted" when he appeared in the 7-UP commercials. Geoffrey's voice was so enchanting, so recognizable, so unique. I want to honor Carmen, his amazing, talented and ~special in her own right~ wife. Words are inadequate to describe the frenzy of feelings she evoked with her dance and movement. I'm glad I was able to comment on an influence I didn't even realize had made such an impact on my thoughts and perceptions as I grew into the self I finally became. I needed to voice and share my appreciation before I die. It is a way of thanking God for sharing his special creations with us all. God Bless Geoffrey and Carmen and their son, Leo!

Geoffrey could have easily shed his Trinidadian accent if he wanted to. The Trinidadian accent with its sing-songy aspect lends itself easily to imitating other accents. Very similar to the welsh accent such as Christian Bale and Anthony Hopkins (in ability to imitate other accents). It would have been a conscious (and limiting) choice to retain his theatrical version of his Trini accent.

This was a great episode! I wanted to know so much more about him than just playing Annie's Punjab and in Live And Let Die. The description of his death was so very moving. Thanks for choosing him for your series. In my mind, he will always be Punjab from Annie. A movie that the critics hated but a movie that will always be a big memory from my childhood.
