I listened to her Time to Walk on Apple Fitness+. She spoke about this moment in great detail. As she got up on stage, she spoke of hearing her father telling her to get herself together, so she did. She burst in song, as she deserved. And as she went into her speech, she said she saw a monitor overhead flashing the words: “stop now.” And what went through her mind was, “you’ve been telling me to ‘stop now’ for years. I’m not gonna stop now.” Auntie Sheryl. You deserved this moment.

Sheryl Lee Ralph's parents were good friends with my grandmother. If she was still alive today, she would be extremely proud. We had Christmas dinner at her house one year, I think in 1997, when she was in Jamaica with her parents. I had just seen a video of her talking about her life and being on Moesha & the highs then the low when she decided to leave the show. It ended on a positive note with her talking about winning an Emmy one day. I cried because it was so moving. I had no idea she was on a current show or nominated this year. Saw the news clip & song/speech yesterday. I burst out crying as she sat stunned ,loved her acceptance speech & cried again. Then came across the video her daughter posted with her & her brother reacting to their mother winning. Her screaming "Yes Mommy" made me cry harder . I'm so happy for her & her family. I don't think she ever gave a bad performance. I first saw her as a young girl in the film "A Piece of the Action " (1977) playing a teen in a program for troubled youth. Congrats Sheryl!❤❤❤❤
