Forcing a certain snapshot to boot is such a great idea for an uncomplicated consistency check. Also diversity for fail safety! Hard to sell tho. Great talk!

awesome, just found this talk, how nice. back when i ran a somewhat nice sized env (~150 freebsd sys) i couldn't talk with others except friends. and it's always like that, no matter if 100 or 10000 systems you're always under NDA... so anything from others worksmanship that can get shared is golden. and the smaller stuff where I do just a dozen, there's just nothing to say. file bugs, help close them and no budgeting to do much more - or another issue at some other place to also fix. the less smooth things run, the less you can hear about it since the time for interaction went out of the window the moment the problem arose. :(

Thanks for the talk, it's always nice to hear how BSD is used in the field.

I love FreeBSD and Ive spent a lot of time learning all the nuts and bolts to the best of my ability, but my biggest pain point is trying to keep things up to date. Ive ruined too many functional systems trying to update, and often I try a fresh install and need to sort out a bunch of new bugs. Im almost becoming hesitant to invest in configuration because of it.
