I'm so happy to read this. It's been so challenging.

The unfortunate truth is that sometimes values are divergent enough so as to be subject to the paradox of tolerance. When some persons celebrate, for instance, the concept of setting up concentration camps in the USA, or when some persons send young women the message that their bodies are, in essence, property of the men around them, it is not a position to simply be accepted in the interest of keeping the peace. Such people’s interests frankly do not align with mine, nor do they genuinely have the best interests in mind of the people they intend to throw in concentration camps. This is not a matter of people dropping family members over petty political differences, it’s a matter of people dropping friends and family members who voted in favor of concentration camps and the treatment of women as property. I applaud those with the moral courage to do so.

This is a Composition Fallacy, taking a fringe minority as representative of the whole. Your capacity for reality testing is significantly impaired if you actually think this.

I have transgender clients and clients in the LGBTQ community and women and express feeling unsafe now and is triggering their trauma responses. My client’s safety and well being are being affected now and I feel I am grieving along with them though did not make it about myself though expressing to some of my clients that I am struggling also appeared to be validating to my clients feelings. It’s a very tough situation and worry what the next four years will be like for my clients and myself as a woman.

4:22 I have to disagree with that. People might vote their values but our values are not aligned. There is research that shows conservatives consider things that progressives do not. Things like tradition and disgust. A friend of mine, who voted for Trump, told me he disagrees with Trump on issues like immigration and LGBT+ rights but that he voted his wallet, which is what everyone does. I don't vote my wallet. I vote for what does the least harm and promotes equality. Often times, that might benefit me financially but it doesn't always.

First thank you so much for being so thoughtful to make this video! I want to share a difference in opinion. Please. You share that people vote the way they pretty much to effect something positive for their lives, etc. I take it that you are also saying they don't vote to do harm. Correct? Okay, my opinion, based on what Trump supporters have told me, some of them, some DID vote to punish and they do wish harm on democrats who they see as destroyers, enemies. Sorry to say, I'm so saddened , many people do wish harm on others they feel will destroy their country. I am one such person they deem a "destroyer" because I am a therapist, (conservative ) democrat, I believe it's helpful to society to help people regardless of colour and sexual orientation and regardless of immigration status. The liberalism of the 60s, universalism, equality, has been replaced by equity, group identity, and extreme polarization in the effort to represent oppressed people and make reparations. This is what the Trump folks call "woke". They hate that. And though I'm not Trumpian I'm a conservative democrat and not so woke either. But, so, where does a moderate or conservative democrat go? Not to the republicans, maybe not to democrats. Many of us have no party but are hated by republicans who also wish us gone.

5:11 I hate to disagree with you again because while belief perseverance, where people continue to maintain erroneous beliefs in the face of evidence, is a fact researchers have struggled to reproduce the results of the original study that showed people experience the backfire effect, where they believe it more after being presented with evidence that contradicts their beliefs.

I *do* respect different opinions, but when one party has literally *denied* me (a queer man) equal protection under the law by voting against enshrining gay marriage IN THE LADT 2 YEARS we need to stop pretending as if this is a difference in opinion, it is a complete difference in values. I can no longer make a connection when I ask conservatives "do you know he is actively, with his coalition, working to make me a second class citizen?" This just is not compatible
