I thought it would be fun to make an episode sharing my most go-to therapy tools. They're not the "main show" of treatment approaches I use when building a treatment plan, but they show up frequently as a supporting role.
I hope you find this helpful. What are some of your go-to therapeutic tools that you find yourself pulling off the shelf time and again? I was a little surprised by what I realized are some of my most used tools!

OMG this was the video I needed in my therapist journey. I loved the examples and demonstrations. Thank you!! I also use a lot of ACT. It’s been such a useful tool to help people break down their languaging.

Hi Marie, I am heavily considering going into clinical psychology and your videos are some of the most refreshing I have seen. Most other videos seem to be from year 1-5 PhD students and focus on basics such as “the difference between PhD and PsyD” vs problems they’ve encountered in their training or the process and your insight into the lived profession is great. Your thoughts are valuable even in my current work as a nurse as well! Something I have heard about as being important to identify is a theoretical orientation. I don’t know much about this and I’ve been looking for books and other resources while I prepare for the next step on my educational journey. I would love to hear from your perspective what information you might have for those hoping to pursue clinical psychology in how you determined your approach and a differential of the ones you know about. Thanks for doing what you do!

I used to be psychoeducation back when I was in residential treatment but now motivational interviewing and anything else with delicacy peppered in.

It’s important to help the client learn coping strategies and my SUD clients love learning about cognitive distortions, they really take it seriously and use the language.

I like to use the “Columbo” approach with clients and it tends to work. Also, I use CBT and DBT with my SUD clients. I’m still working on feeling comfortable with ACT.

Do you have any recommendations on parts work reading/podcasts that you’ve enjoyed that is succinct without doing full on training?
