These bore rods are great for checking the barrel integrity as well. When i joined up Army back in 86 my 1st shots with M16A1 had a bent barrel so i wasn't hitting target no matter how well i aimed, the Drill Instructor didn't like my shooting to say the least lmfao 😄 I insisted something gotta be wrong with this here rifle Drill Sargent so he sends me down to the armorer technician truck and the guy slides a rod in the barrel and I'll be dipped the barrel literally warped to an extreme amount... I ask the guy "Why is my barrel so badly warped???" He says sometimes you got these recruits that'll set the barrel up against the wall and kick it really hard as a prank before they leave basic training. I said to the armorer maybe the barrels of all the rifles should be inspected for this before they're issued to new recruits , he agreed and said he will have a good word with his colleague at my units armory.

If you have good eyesight you can focus on the suppressor endcap and then focus your eyes on the Bore and it should line up like a peep sight on a gun. You just need to shine a light from breech to muzzle. The eye is actually very precise when it comes to bore alignment.

If "SureFire Bore Rods" are "manufactured by Geissele Automatics" as this video description claims, then why are SureFire Bore Rods and Geissele Automatics Suppressor Alignment Tools marketed and sold separately?

This is a common practice in the firearms industry (and lots of other industries). A good example would be Choate rifle stocks. Choate has been providing synthetic stocks to Savage, Thompson-Center and many others for years and putting the company's name, logo, badge, or whatever on them. If you buy the same stock aftermarket from Choate it has Choate's name on it instead. People will argue you until they are blue in the face about their stock being a "factory" stock without understanding the reality that it comes from a supplier. So, you can buy your bore rods from Surefire or you can buy them from Geissele. You will be getting the same level of quality since it is, in fact, the same product.

The real question is, why aren’t you buying your “geissele bore concentricity gauge” in the rod section of your steel supply.

The challenge here is that there are a lot of calibers. But relatively few rod sizes.

Go buy a $5 piece of rod from the hardware store, cut it to 18" or so. Roll it on a flat surface to check that it's not bent. Same way you do with a pool cue... Wrap some tape around it at one far end, then about 7-10" up from there with the same exact length of tape. Tape just enough to make it tight to the point where it doesn't wiggle, but you don't have to force it into the barrel, then with the taped section in the barrel check just as he did for central location of bore. If it's close to one side, turn the rod 180 degrees to verify it didn't turn to the opposing edge of the suppressor. If you turn it 180 degrees and its still close to the same side that it was before, you're going to experience a baffle strike if you fire it. You're welcome.

Is there a way to do this check before ordering a suppressor?
@surefirehowto6 жыл бұрын
The alignment is determined by the threads on the barrel being concentric to the bore. If they are not, you need to contact the company that manufactured the upper or barrel. Perhaps if you wanted to check this before buying a suppressor, you could take your upper to a class 3 dealer that is willing to let you test fit and bore rod a suppressor.
