I'd be great to hear subs shot into the dirt or something so we can hear the actual performance of the suppressors.

You know it’s funny you say that. Because it does sound kind of loud. Those white bags behind the steel target are bags of dirt. Where the flashlight is shining are a few bags of dirt. In short I think there’s a there are a number of factors at play. While I’m no physicist, I’ll do my best to dive deeper below. Ammo, Environment and sound reflections. The ammo used here is rather loud for subs. The winchester 200 grain super suppressed is both gassy and loud. While functional it’s almost not worth it, stay away! Environmental and sound reflections/pressure wave reflections. Where I live is extremely quiet, high in elevation and fairly mountainous. Anything not in a perfectly open free field (with no surfaces for this pressure wave to reflect off of). The shooter will experience this pressure wave or sound reflecting off the surfaces back at them. In this case the trees act as a wall for the sound to reflect off, basically bouncing that wave right back to the shooter. Additionally, this is happening when the bullet hits the bag of dirt. (If you listen closely you can hear the “thump-thap”) which is happening so fast it sounds like one sound wave but it’s many, not just one. This happens when the bullet penetrates the berm and skids off into the woods then hits a tree, (which is down flat and then into a hill and my property and I’ve since added to the berm), the sound of the semi-auto action, etc. Certainly factors to consider when choosing which suppressor you’d like. Some shots I can hear penetrate the bag and bounce off a tree and even the echo of that sound. It’s pretty fascinating, to me at least. Jay from pewscience explains it much better than I ever could. He runs this research effort that measures all this top to bottom in the free field so you have a better idea of what performance you’re going to get out of your suppressor rather than a flat db rating.

@@0AFSYT Shot my 300Blk in a open fiend with nothing for at least 200 yards in either direction and it sounded completely different to me...I guess the sound not bouncing off trees and structures makes a huuuge difference

Thank you check out my relaxing sounds video. It goes well with a glass of whiskey or beer!
