@Anthony K 15 year multiple Supra owner here...you don't know what you're talking about. The 2JZ + Getrag combo is legendary for a good reason. It's so amazing that it's hard to OVERSTATE it. But, you call it a "piece of shit". lol - The MK3 overrated? It was in U.S. Magazines holding its own with the underwhelming Domestics of the day (C4/TA's/'Maros/'Stangs)...but, the MK3 wasn't a total package. Due to that, if anything, it was "underrated" in the U.S. from Domestic buyers/reviewers. Now, the MK4TT? *THAT* was in U.S. Magazines like R&T showing-up 911's, Vipers, ZR1's, etc. @ $40kMSRP in 1993. Get real. The thing was a MONSTER. Neither car was "overrated" in its day - they were properly "rated". They were/are both great cars. What I think you MEAN to say is you weren't around when the cars existed new and you're actually talking about Fast and the Furious effect (I could be wrong). Because, if you're talking about "overrated" in 1989-1993.5 - (when the cars were released/reviewed) you're dead wrong. You can go look at PDF scans if you doubt me.

When is that ever a problem, BMW is known for some iconic sports cars, and they know their stuff. Plus this engine is still a turbocharged inline 6, that is also highly tunable. Sure all the fanboys wanted it to be built by a more reliable car company, and some say the styling is weird and doesn’t make enough power from factory, but It still is genuinely a good car, it may not be what people wanted, but at least toyota brought back the supra

I was never surprised the Supra was discontinued. Between emissions, high price and the SUV craze, it was bound to leave us. A fully loaded twin turbo was over $45K in 1998. I remember looking at the sticker on one with my jaw dropped. At the time, it was in Corvette territory. Look at this way: You have the money to buy either car, and the Supra is a better car all around, but you dreamed of owning the Vette. I doubt there was even one guy here in the States who hadn't dreamed of owning a Corvette at least once in his life back then. Corvette sales were down too, but I think most gravitated towards the Vette because of that.

FYI for those that love the boxy look of the Mk3 supra. If you change out both stock seats for racing seats you'll shave 100lbs. Then, rip out the rest of interior trim and you're at Mk4 weight lol

The Supra is the car that has appeared in most NFS games, starting way back in the first game as a RZ, then in Hot Pursuit as a 3000GT TRD, and now in Payback as the SZ-R

DanB Juliano it makes close to 400... people were getting more than 350 whp when they first came out... And one can easily break 500whp barrier by a bigger turbo and a methanol for fuel... Add a gearbox cooler and you can easily run mid to low 9s in the quarter mile... while still being able to daily drive it

I had a 84 and a 89 when I was in highschool. I bought the 84 for $400 and the 89 for $800! I thought they were both amazing. The 89 was really pretty for an old car with the cool 17" wheels, almost black purple paint job and that super sweet targa top but it was an automatic. The 84 was a monster to me at the time! It was my first car. It definitely was a bit rough around the edges but, 2.8 sure loved living around redline and it had the 5 speed manual. I had a local muffler shop put a 40 series flowmaster on it and I loved the sound! I gave that car hell and I only broke the water pump, fan and radiator once (pump bearing broke and the fan hit the radiator). I honestly wish I kept that car forever.

Ben Smith dad had a 2002 95 aero, got the engine rebuilt with pistons from a 9000 (they're stronger) that was a fun car! It's was quick and had more options than any other car I've seen for the same money

Hey man, BMWs around the time of the Supras were some of the best cars you could buy. They were very reliable. The only problem was that when something did break, which happens on every car (yes even toyotas...) you had to import expensive as shit parts from Germany to fix it. That's how every German car was before the early 2000s. In Europe, it's kinda backwards. They view Japanese cars (again, even toyota..) as "unreliable" and "expensive" cars, because parts for BMWs and VWs and Mercedes are cheap as dirt and readily available used and new everywhere. Cars like the mk1 and 1.5 ford focus, which I own, were expensive shitboxes that nobody wants. Here, in Canada, they're super cheap beater cars that run for a long time because they're easy to fix and the parts are DIRT cheap, for the most part.

Sir Brellin You ain't even lying about THAT Brother! As long as it's: JAPANESE- Reliability, Performance Potential, THEN European R&D and Aesthics would be acceptable. It would be REALLY AWESOME, if Toyota replicated Chevy, Ford, and Dodge by giving the new Supra a resemblance of the MK IV Supra aesthetics. Honestly, I hope the Supra DOESN'T go the way of the newly-designed Honda NSX. Sure it outperforms, BUT it looks NOTHING like its original design platform.

1:20 you've lost me.... "Took the engine from their legendary 2000GT and gave it two extra cylinders just for the Supra"? All "M" family engines were 6 cylinder ranging from 2L to 3L in capacity. The 2000GT had the one of a kind 3M which was a 1988cc with dual cams and 12 valves. This engine never came in any other vehicle except almost all 2000GTs. The MA45 Celica XX (or Mark 1 for you 'Mericans) had the same old ordinary 4M (2.6 Litre) that you found in a Toyota Crown or a optional JDM version with an M-TEU (2 Litre EFI turbo).

WRONG! The M was already a 6 cylinder. They just refined the 3M design to make it worse TBH. Also Yamaha did the engine. And it was the A60.
