That's one way. I think another is to simply not enforce their ruling on the matter. Okay, Trump is above the law? Go enforce that then. Then proceed with the case through other means. Packing the court is another. Of course we have impeachment but that is simply not in the cards. There's jurisdiction stripping, which is outlined in the constitution that congress can do. An important point to remember also is that this court isn't respecting the constitution. What they decided in the case on Colorado was clearly not the reading of the constitution.
@NikosZaidGomez8 ай бұрын
@@ryanjohnson6272 Not exactly. The constitution says they stay in as long as they have good behavior. Obviously they don't but "good behavior" is interpreted, and understandably, seen as not being impeached. The UK team's also the most responsive to community feedback, including critique. And I know the US / World teams have kids to raise and we're all anxious about the upcoming elections. I just also think if they spent more time going over how inhumane politicians and their agendas are, rather than complaining about how "weird" the working-to-death / trying to survive life voters are, that might persuade more people to vote blue. Maybe they could take a page out of UK's book and interview more leaders of progressive charities and organizations instead of just politicians all the time. Instead of telling Biden to make punchier abortion access ads, interview people who've had their abortions denied and their health / families devastated by Dobbs. I do like Pod Save America. We wouldn't have gotten Pod Save the UK without it (and UK is by no means perfect either). I just know they could be doing better by marginalized and multiply-marginalized people. 1) Alyssa is a treasure - her 1st book got me through the early days of the Trump era. Would love to see more of her - I am not sure her talents are fully utilized on her podcast. Especially in this crucially important election year. 2) Environmental protections - coal emissions must be reduced by 90% in 15 years: why are we not discussing the S.C.’s Chevron decision expected in June? It has the potential to essentially paralyze the EPA. This is a captured court so there should be no illusions about which way that decision will go. In other words, the Chevron decision will counteract and/or potentially cancel out any good the coal emission regulations are doing. - 2A) Given what went down yesterday at the immunity case hearing I wonder what you would think about a more assertive action to protest Thomas not recusing himself? In other countries the 3 Democrat-appointed SC judges would likely recuse themselves as a group in the place of Thomas. I believe 5 judges are sufficient to make decisions - and their left-leaning/centrist/normal voices inside the S.C. itself do not seem to matter at this point. Time to boycott the process & highlight the absolute corruption surrounding the Supreme Court as well as the inherent danger life-time appointments pose. Especially with no real checks and balances built in.
@CassandraCassandra.8 ай бұрын
3) Trump and his team approach the immunity case as a negotiation. They know it is a bogus claim but it seems that the underlying aim is to move the needle to the Right. That seems to be the goal in most instances actually, which is why they resort to being the “crazy” ones in Congress - and on our streets and roads as well. Intimidation is a related technique in this game - they are so far out with their goals and are so loud about them - and suck up so much oxygen as a result - that many people will just step aside. They don’t want to deal with all that. In other words: we are being bullied as a nation. 4) By the way, these techniques are not new: Hungary has been a testing ground since around the late 90’s - it took some time, but look how far the Right has gotten over there. All to make sure Orbàn and his oligarchs & the entire dependent party systems and organizations will never leave power. Not on their own accord that is. And they all keep/launder their $$$ in the Arabic banking system (Dubai). Precious stones are much easier to transport than piles of cash as well.

5) (This is the last one, promise! ;-) The rot begun with Putin who has always behaved like a mafia boss domestically. He is of course ex KGB so an expert at wielding propaganda/misinformation like the psychological weapon it is. Add the internet and voila! An effective and inexpensive tool for agitation brings about our current era’s Global Right Turn. They are taking us apart, brick by brick. And they have so many allies in the world: the “death to America” crowd is ever expanding (Putin supports both Hamas and the Houthis AND Bibi as well - the whole thing is just suspicious. Plus Putin likes to time things to fall on dates important to him - and October 7th happens to be his birthday. Granted, this could be a mere coincidence - but this whole thing is just too neat). The key to this whole mess is Ukraine. Without a decisive victory there, Putin will not be stopped. He is currently “quiet” drafting around 300 000 people in Russia (they suspend driver licenses, freeze bank accounts and flag passports as under review - until people turn up to enlist - no more crying families as men are rounded up). And he seems to control half of our governing bodies as well - including Trump and his wealthy and/or religious fundamentalist allies. The name Putin sounds pretty horrible/funny in some Romance languages - I think this should be common knowledge. Because he is the OG bully, who will fall apart if he encounters real opposition. Nomen est omen as they say….

Thanks for the legal recap -- my guess (and hope, stuff is finally moving) is that a weekly legal recap will be necessary for the next few months.

Am I mad or does this suggest Trump has a pocket Pardon!? Justise Gorsich: "We've never answered whether a president can do that" (self pardon) "Happily it's never been presented to us" Sauer: "if the doctrine of immunity remains in place, that's likely to remain the case" Does this imply that Trump has a pocket pardon for himself? @25:00 I've been a long time listener, even going to a live show of Lovett or leave it. Sexual consent is getting a bit out of control especially here in Ca. A friend of mine just did 8 years because he a a girls got drunk and had intercourse. The girl went back home and her ex-BF made a stink of the whole thing so she was pressured into going to the cops and saying it wasn't consensual. During investigation it was found out that she had been making passes at my friend and so they thought it was consensual but because they had been drinking she wasn't capable of making that choice so they charged my friend anyway. California's consensual standard goes a bit too far because the DA argued anyone under the influence can't give consent and that convicted my friend to 8 years. That kind of thing only cheapens women's rights because how many times have any of us been on a date and had a glass of wine then intercourse? It happens everyday but that shouldn't mean people are free to go to the cops and call rape. I'm afraid for my child's generation because people drink especially HS aged kids and if all it takes is for the partner to get cold feet and go to the cops first, that takes away for much of the youth experience. There's rape and then there's cold feet (after the fact) the latter shouldn't result in years in prison.

I suspect and hope the bragging by Trump about the repeal of Roe v Wade, and its disastrous consequences, may turn solid red states such as Idaho, Florida, Alabama, Texas and the like blue, or at least purple.

The very idea that American presidents should have absolute immunity, is absolutely nuts !.
@pwrrpw3198 ай бұрын
Same as the idea that Presidents can self pardon themselves!!!, not that that would matter if Trump becomes dictator for life !!!!!!

If immunity is given to all Presidents… Biden is free to do as he likes. Donnie may not be around within the first 24 hours. And Biden will have full immunity to do whatever he wants to all MAGA’s in Congress and the Senate and… governors.

One thing I noticed in the oral arguments was that all of the conservative justices made some comment along the lines of "I'm talking generally, not about the merits of this specific case". This may mean they do believe there is some limited immunity, but that it doesn't apply to Trump.
