I think they are at least 5 if not 10 years away from becoming a potential replacement for a modern 2/4 stroke enduro bike. When someone can complete Erzberg or Romaniacs (single day) without a battery change then I would definitely look into it. The other issue I have is the lack of clutch. I hope the electric bike manufacturers implement a clutch to give you the extra control needed for the more technical terrain.
@tiptoucher36943 жыл бұрын
I will never compete or attend the Erzberg. The bike as sits will suit my needs. I'm so glad it doesn't have a clutch.
@revjimjones3 жыл бұрын
A clutch is pointless, you have zero gears and can tune the bike to give you more torque if necessary for trail riding.
@ste_t3 жыл бұрын
@@revjimjones depends what you're use to. I'm sure it's something you can become familiar with but a clutch is used for more than changing gears especially in technical terrain. The new electric motion trials bikes have a clutch so I'm sure they will appear on electric enduro bikes.
@revjimjones3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, it must be part muscle memory for trials and enduro, part complication in making throttle response good for normal riding and snap when you need it

I decided to embrace EV's finally. I picked my used Storm Bee up yesterday in Mongolia (China's next door neighbour). I concur with everything you said although I've only just started riding it. It's just my first impression and I think I'm in love. I also ride around my mountain neighborhood, I don't want to disturb the peace, I don't want to do mechanical work either. Just charge and go. Mega! I don't think it'll be the hit the Light Bee has been due to cost. I tried the Light Bee and it was just too small for me (I'm 6'2") so a non-starter. The price I paid was £6.3k inclusive. No tax, no insurance, no registration because it's Mongolia.
@crosstrainingenduro3 жыл бұрын
Good to see them coming along, thanks for the vid and your thoughts. Still a bit heavy compared to say a two stroke even when fuelled up.... 118kg for the offroad version and 127kg for the registrable version I think? We probably aren't far off these being lighter and at least as powerful as the existing dirt bikes. I know everyone has different opinions on this, but I'd prefer to buy a non-Chinese made electric bike when they get to that point. 👍

The only large obstacle to mass adoption is the one thing not solved yet. RANGE...Give my 80 miles of trail range, and FAST battery swaps, take my money $$$$. Otherwise I'll just stick with the Sur Ron X, modded, and it gets the job done for woodsy trail fun. Plus I have a street plated 2 stroke 300 for the events that require it. One electric bike will never do it all. Each electric bike will either occupy a unique niche, or be competing with other similar electrics. They don't truly stack up against gas bikes yet, apples to apples.

good video mate. ABSOLUTELY NOT the future though... When the battery's will do a 6hr day then they will be popular... until then not a chance. 2 hours is not even close to enough especially with a 3hr charge. and the problem here is we need about 10 more years battery improvement before we get anywhere near and for the record silent is not a good thing... when someone gets killed by a silent bike they will find a problem with that trust me
@coffelt6833 жыл бұрын
Silence is fine if you don't ride like an idiot, the only time loud pipes help is if your lane splitting but that is illegal in most countries and most states in the US. And considering the fact that everything Sur ron makes is flying off the shelves, I don't think popularity is an issue. I rode a light bee and it was fantastic, I'm looking at getting one for my short commute in the future. I live near redwood forests and mountain bike trails so this is perfect, especially because the rangers call the cops on gas bikes instantly (I speak from experience lol).
