I've been staying in Surabaya for years since I joined the Navy. In Surabaya We've got Indonesian Naval Academy and the biggest Naval Base in Indonesia, where the the second fleet is located. Inside the Naval base you can find the Monjaya Monument, in the form of Naval Officer Statue just like Liberty Statue in USA. It's opened to Public. You also can find Submarine Monument in Surabaya Mall, Which is adjacent to Tunjungan Plaza.I believe that Surabaya is a Naval City as well.

Surabaya looks like a beautiful city. The moment I see those lovely children I see the future of Indonesia. On a side note, just in case you are still wondering why there are missing numbers on the lift buttons. It is a trend in Malaysia as well. The building is most likely owned by Chinese or the residents are mostly Chinese. The number 4 in Mandarin has the same pronunciation as 'death' in Mandarin. So any number with 4 does not go well with the Chinese. It is either being skipped or replaced with 3A or 13A. As for the missing number 13, I believe it is related to western belief that 13 is a bad number that represents bad luck. 'kia kia' in the Hokkien dialect means 'let's go for a walk'.
@RenataPereiraTV4 жыл бұрын
Yes, such joyful faces. thanks for the information on the numbers. We did see in Malaysia those missing numbers too
@Bugis_Makassar4 жыл бұрын
This comment should be on top because event Indonesian people sometimes they didn't understand the missing numbers.
@bramsantoso17974 жыл бұрын
Yes ,the owner is probably Chinese descendant ....for them 4 and 13 means Death or Unlucky ....so sometimes they change it to '3A' or '12A' ........

Surabaya is the Capital City East Java Province. I first went to Surabaya in 4th Grade Elementary School, because it happened to be the Holiday Season. My Family and I went by Car from Yogyakarta to Surabaya for almost 8 Hours, because at that time from Yogyakarta to East Java there was no Toll Road. And when I arrived in Surabaya... I was surprised to be amazed because the City was large and quite spacious. From there, I love Traveling to the Surabaya City, every time the Holiday Season... I would always want to go to Surabaya and stay at the Ibis Style Hotel in Surabaya, coincidentally, My Father is a Member of the Ibis Style Surabaya. Now it can pass the Toll Road, so on the way... the distance Traveled from Yogyakarta to Surabaya is around 2-3 Hours if I'm not mistaken. Sorry if it stands a bit, because I want to Flashback the First Time to Surabaya. ❤😁🙏👍👍👍

11:58 Japanese seized Indonesia from the Dutch during WW2 but then lost, so our founding fathers used the opportunity to declare independence. The Allies (who won WW2) wanted to give Indonesia back to the Dutch because Japan lost the war. This happened after the declaration of independence. Surabaya comes from Javanese word "Sura ing Baya" that means "brave in facing dangers". The symbol of shark and crocodile was later adopted (as you have noticed, from the ancient prophecy of Shark vs Crocodile) to reflect the bravery of Surabaya people to defend the city, not only in times of the war of independence but also before, when Mongols invaded. Shark represents Mongol Troops because they came from the sea by ships, and crocodile (the ruler of the rivers) symbolizes Surabaya people. That's why 31st May 1293 is considered to be the date of the city was founded because it was the date Surabaya people won against Mongol troops. Thank you so much for delivering such a beautiful and informative videos about Indonesia, especially my beloved hometown Surabaya. Stay blessed!
