I picked this board up pretty cheap, it's an epoxy Cortez with polystyrene core. The fin on the starboard side has had an impact or drop, so the plastic insert plugs have broken out and the epoxy resin cracked.
I've not done a repair like this before so i thought i'd film it and see if i get any advice. The new FCS style plugs fit the fins fine, they have little depth markers that sit on the board, then as far as i can make out, you sand them flat after the epoxy has hardened.
I mixed up an epoxy resin mix 1:1, fully mixed then added micro ballons until smooth peanut butter thickness. This creates an epoxy putty that is alot stiffer than pure resin.
I then filled the hole with the putty , making sure it touched all the inside, then inserted the new plugs with the fin attached to make the spacing perfect. If i did another i'd put some masking tape on the fin in case any resin touches it.
So far it looks like a win, but catch the next episode to see the finished result. Any constructive comments please leave below!
