Got a subscriber, ill be in destin camping for a week this week, in a fresh water fisherman from socal and austin tx, any tips this week? 2 hours before and after moving tides? Infront or behind sand bars? What bait are catching what fish here in mid August?
@TheLawlessTide5 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, Thanks man. Are you gonna be fishing strictly in the surf or also the bay? Land based or kayaking?
@brianbennett56625 жыл бұрын
@@TheLawlessTide ive never fish surf ive always lived by lakes so really want to surf fish but also want to catch a red so eithr or but gonna have to rent a yak if i have to. I was also thinking about renting one to go deep to drop bait, gonna check out the low tide monday morning early and get an idea of the floor plan so by 8 when waters up ill have some sort of idea, idk im just winging it,
@TheLawlessTide5 жыл бұрын
You can catch reds in the surf too. Right now surf fishing your best bet is gonna be early/sunrise and late/sunset regardless of the tide. Cut bait and fishbites. Look for places in the surf where there are breaks in the sand bar or you can see a riptide. Have baits out at different distances until you have an idea where they are. Pins for the beach don’t really help because the sandbars are always changing. But if you want some areas of the bay to hit I can show you some good areas no problem.

Before you rent a yak to go offshore make sure you check the weather/wind and surf/swell report. Being your first time you want to go when it’s really calm.

I just ment a pin for some beaches that are good and have eazy fishing access and can have the family hang out, i have a 3 year old and a 3month. My cousin lives in Houston and surf fishes alot and he said telescope beach is a cool spot, and he was here 2 weeks ago, and he goes to shark fishing and red fisging alot, what are the fishbites? Nicely done. I have taken that walk myself when I come down to visit and fish Destin. I love to fish off the jetty and try for sheephead. Go to the east a bit and fish pompano when they start showing up in numbers. Keep up the good work.

Tony Helminger Thanks Tony, yeah it’s a pretty awesome area, so many options and types of fishing all tucked into a couple hundred yards of real estate

Headed down there May 13 to 20 any pointers on where to fish and what fish with?
@TheLawlessTide5 жыл бұрын
Where are you gonna fish? What type of gear do you have, what do you want to catch. If you can give me an idea on those questions I can tell you what you will need.

I have Penn combo I bought last time I went to Destin but it's a little more sturdy than rods you seem to be using. Last year I fished around the jetty and only caught catfish
@Jasonlittle64995 жыл бұрын
All fishing will be done from the shore and would like to catch some decent size fish
@TheLawlessTide5 жыл бұрын
Ok sounds like you’ve got a penn rod good for throwing spoons and other heavy lures. I would make sure and have some heavy gold and silver spoons for throwing from the beach at daybreak and sunset and anytime you see a school of fish swimming down the beach. I would suggest getting a surf rod to hold 20# braid for a pompano rig. You can catch anything from a small whiting to a 40# black drum to bull red with that rig using fish bites or sand fleas as bait. Daybreak and sunset will be your best bet to catch a big one from beach but a big school of bull reds or giant Jack Crevallecan swim within casting distance at any time so always have that spoon ready. Make sure on the rod with the spoon you have at least a 30-40 pound fluorocarbon leader. Those big fishes mouths can get pretty rough. I hope this helps a little bit. I would hit different beaches and hit around the jetties, there’s always fish around them. Good luck buddy, don’t hesitate to hit me up if you have more question , and please let me know how you do! If I was gonna be down there that week we’d go fish together but I’m stuck in Oklahoma at the moment, ugh!

Nice black drum, I’ve been fishing the east jetty a lot recently and there’s been a lot of black drum. Still haven’t found any trout in the area though. Any pointers? I mostly fish in the bayou because i live in FWB but any advice is good.
@TheLawlessTide5 жыл бұрын
Dennis Sparks I haven’t had a lot of luck with trout in the surf. I do know that some live bull minnows on a Carolina rig in the mouths of the creeks and rivers flowing into Choctawhatchee is deadly this time of year. Also the power plant discharge in the bay is supposed to be killer in the winter but I haven’t had the chance to fish it yet. Hope that helps at least a little bit good luck to ya Dennis!
@dennissparks14725 жыл бұрын
The Lawless Tide Thanks man! I’ll have to try out the power plant discharge. I bet the trout hang around there a lot because of the warmth!

Dang man, wish I was gonna be here then. Unfortunately i only get to spend about a 1/4 of the year here and the rest in Oklahoma. I won’t be down here till the 3rd week of April. I would be more than happy though to give you all the advice I can for that first week in April. Send me a PM and I will give my phone number and we can talk. Tight lines man.
