In my opinion, the most important thing to know is how to read the surf. Finding those cuts, troughs and points will help you be an more efficient angler.

What about when the beach becomes like a lake? there's no much to look at...
@Ducky2o

@@m.camacho8925Where I fish on the California coast it is really not important to read the surf when fishing for surf perch. The whole beach looks completely the same, except with a really high tide. When I fish for striper it is necessary to find a nice deep trough or cut but most good perch beaches are not good striper beaches. The perch will swim in schools up and down the whole beach not just in specific areas.

I do use them, and I have caught from the smallest perch to big ones, not all the time, though... but they do work... it also depends on how you read the surf and what you're targeting...

Nice job of covering the hear that you use and explaining the why. You provided lots of good information and advice. I've been redtail fishing here in Central CA for over 50 years and am still learning. Rod, reels, and tackle change according to the conditions. One rig will never coverit all but you have so start somewhere. A 10'6" M rod is a great first rod.

The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

Well, I finally changed out the old used up Stren that had gone rotten on my trout reel. Want to poke around for a few trout up here on the mountain, in the Sandy and Salmon Rivers. It is so snaggy. So I went for some Yo-Zuri Super Braid 10 lb test . Decided on Berkeley vanish, fluorocarbon also at 10 lb test in hopes that I will lose less terminal tackle in those rocky rivers. 😵‍💫

Can you catch live sand worms for bait at beach in PNW or they are out in deep water? How about finding clams for bait?
@AnglingAddictsPNW
@AnglingAddictsPNW 2 жыл бұрын
you can start digging a hole near the water and probably start running into sandworms, I've found quite a few when I'm surf fishing. Clams are usually around the bays a bit more but here on our coast you can find razor clams basically where you are standing to surf fish... both are great baits, especially if you can find them yourself. Razor clams have to be in season, but I'm sure there are beaches that have clams around

Hi, Nick. New to the channel. So much information here. I know you can edit and I do have to say that this is probably a six minute video. I did lots of double tapping to fast forward. Just FYI. I’m good for about six minutes whether it’s cooking or fishing or hunting. I don’t have the attention span for a full half hour unless I’m getting continuing education points toward my professional license. Other guys might it like it. I’m not telling you to do one thing or the other. This is just one guy‘s opinion. A guy with severe attention deficit. 😂

I do go back and watch some of these videos months after I've posted them just to see how I absorb what I'm putting out in the video. It seems when I shorten them I end up talking way too fast, and for some people, they can't keep up with what I'm putting out. If I try to brake it down Barney style it makes some people fall asleep.... I'm still working on the middle ground. With my military background I'm used to getting a 6hr block of instruction that could have been covered in 45 minutes. I will continue to work on the best experience and info I can. I appreciate the feedback

Hey Nick, I also went with the 10' Rockaway. Mine is rated at medium heavy, so my question would be is there really that much difference between the Medium & MH ?? If so, does it have something to do with bite detection or something more mysterious. I've never been super clear on the finer points of fishing rod power ratings lol. Great video, thanks!!

I use a MH mod-fast for throwing large swimbaits in the surf. A fast action is better for jig heads + soft plastic swimbaits. A medium/fast is what I like for jig surf fishing.

Hi Nick. Thanks for helping us all prepare for catching fish in the surf. But I have a question about your Carolina rig. If your trying to let the egg wt slide freely so the fish can grab and run, then why do you use a bobber stopper so close where it doesn’t really allow the line enough room to slide thru in your demo or any bobber stop. Do you always use the bobber stop. Thanks Ted
@AnglingAddictsPNW
@AnglingAddictsPNW Жыл бұрын
Hi Ted, good question about the bobber stop. I should have clarified about it’s use. I only add the bobber stop when I intend to cast and make a slow retrieve and maybe let the bait sit for just a few seconds. If I were to cast out and just let my bait sit, the bobber stop is definitely not needed, as it would interfere with how the rig works. Basically I’d go without the bobber stop if I were to put my rod in a holder while waiting to get bit, and use the bobber stop If I’m standing there, rod in hand and actively fishing with a semi constant retrieve. I hope that makes sense.
@tedtellian9269

@@AnglingAddictsPNW Thanks Nick (hope that’s your name). I wouldn’t mind picking your brain a little more. I’m not a beginner but I’m no expert like you. Please advise. Based on what you’ve told me about the bobber stop, I grew up learning to just use (in my area, a 1oz torpedo wt tied swivel to main line and on the other end a 18”36” leader and slow steady cranking thru the trough. But recently switched from all the utubers a carolina rig but no bobber stop and continue spinning slowly. I know what you said about holding rod or in the ground, but in your opinion is it ok to spin with no stopper or should I go out and get some. Do a lot of fisherman spin fish without a stopper using Carolina set up? Do you allow email to ask questions occasionally for advice.
